update..checking out the rifle right now. ive learned more about old M16s/AR15s in the last few hours than i ever planned on knowing lol. upper is a colt 603/XM16E1. going by the ejection port cover and forend collar its an early one. probably '64. the BCG looks to be a slighly later model but still correct for the upper. im guessing it was re-barreled because the markings dont match up, but it looks like a common barrel for retro rebuilds. the M15 lower was one of the first aftermarket (non-colt) lowers available. not rated super high for quality but not very common these days. going to put a mag through it in the morning and if it doesnt explode im going to grab it for sure. i love rails and gizmos and tacticoolness..but this thing is cool.

looking at a possible trade..guy is offering a old school AR. says its an unmarked mil-spec upper with an advanced armament lower. looks kinda funky but in a good way. cant find much info other than it seems to be early 80s vintage. anybody have any knowledge to drop on this thing? the trade value im giving up is probably only $600 so seems like im not loosing anything either way

i think its a good idea. someone on my local forum was looking to buy a stripped lower or upper, and didnt care about brand. i mentioned they dont all play nice and he said he had no idea. might be a cool sticky to link people to and get some more site traffic. maybe someone in the know just start spitting out all the manufacturers they can think of and we can give our input on what works together. admin or mod can clean it up as the list gets useful or makes a tech page for it. Fulton Armory = DPMS compatability

doesnt POF use different sized takedown pins? there was a smokin local group buy and i was going to grab an upper but the guy told me it wouldnt fit my lower without enlarging the hole.

i have a fulton lower/dpms upper. the real question...what do i call it. the lower is stamped fulton, and technically the lower is the "firearm" while the upper is unmarked. would i sound like a pretentious poser if i just tell people i have a FAR308? do i have to specify every time its a fulton/dpms frankengun? do i just call it a panther in the spirit of humility? does dpms secretly make everyones parts anyway?

DPMS LR308 bolt locking lugs
blue109 replied to rhinegarten's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
all the corners of my locking lugs on the bolt are nubbed off lol. the gun was so tight when i built it the only way to open the action the first few times was to remove the upper and use a mallet to tap it out. after that i spent a week sitting on my couch working it by hand. had to put the barrel on the floor and my chest on the stock and use both hands on the charging handle at first. as far as the cam pin...i actually used a needle file to shave one side down a tiny bit. until i did that it seemed like the gun was way too tight and was consistently short stroking. i have a fresh cam pin and maybe after more break-in ill be able to swap it in but as it is it still hangs up and fits pretty tight. was a painful process and i hate to sound ghetto but it runs like a rolex now. burned 100 rds of 145gr privi stuff the other day in a short time span just to put the scope on paper and get some more break-in and she just sang. -
most reviews put the ss glass on par with high end stuff. usually above leupold. id still have a hard time dropping a grand on it.

im a fan of anything turbo.....

viper or lower end scope?

Brownells Center For Zombie Awareness
blue109 replied to imschur's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
i personally would be much more afraid of a wolfman apocalypse. those things are fast and strong...and who can afford to cast silver in an economy like this? a nice bullet would cost about $15 in material alone! cmon hornady...why dont you jump on that bandwagon! lets see the going rate for a box of W-max in .308! -
just read this thread for the first time! hey robo..i grew up ON sears point lol. i had a friend from school whose family actually lived in a trailer back where the concession stand was when it was a small time club track. my dad was one of the head maintenance guys there for many years. we spent every wed night there watching him drag race his vette. good memories. where did you live? we lived in sonoma near the high school when i was a kid, and then my sis bought a house in the hood behind sonoma mission inn. to stay on track ive had the good fortune to be able to run laps at sears point/infineon, phoenix int, fireberd int, buttonwillow, and arroyo seco. nothing competitive, but lots of fun. when i finally get my payment for the Nigerian lottery that i won ill build another fun car.

thanks for the replies guys! like i said, im not worried about groups at 1000yds with this, or any, rifle. at this point in my life im just happy i have a few cool toys and a little time now and then to play with them :) i think the rifle would be more fun for me with a little less weight and a little more maneuverability. i can get it chopped by one of a few reputable AZ guys relatively cheap.i just dont want to give myself headaches getting it to run well afterward.

thats awesome. my father-in-law has 2 old colts. one gets abused heavily and the other is locked in a glass box. id like to do something similar to his shooter one of these days in thanks for all the help hes given me and the family.

i have the p22 package with both long/short barrels and the red dot. its alot of fun emptying mags into steel as fast as you can pull the trigger. tinktinktinktinktinktink :P makes me think it would be a pretty vicious carry weapon. i occasionally toss it in my pack for my solo mountain bike rides. my friends make fun of my girly 9mm, but i love the P99 and its my main carry piece. AS trigger is awesome. double and triple taps feel natural. points perfect.

fun little toy. i have one and its bigger brother, P99.

mikes dumb question for the week. probably been discussed but i searched around a bit and didnt see it in here. thinking of having my DPMS 24" bull chopped down to 18" or 20". would like to go with 18" since i honestly dont do any precision or serious bench shooting. if i did this there wouldnt be much barrel left past the gas block. ive seen people on other forums saying theres no issue but its usually regarding 5.56 guns and i trust the info on here a little more than most sites. in a perfect world id just order up a fulton titan upper and call it a day but thats not gonna happen any time soon with a kid on the way so i have to work with what i got.
-
i have a few hundred rds of this stuff. runs fine.
-
i have a PRI price guide if ya need it :P if you are feeling lazy and want to blow some money they have a few complete "MOD 0" upper options
-
looks really good. not overdone.
