Another note on leveling the scope, ensure the reticle is level, sometimes the reticle is not level with the flats on the scope. Use a tall target; https://www.snipershide.com/snipers-hide-leveling-your-scope/

Army thinking of bigger bullet

Nope, means just what it says, no riddle. If you have two you can count on one. If you only have one then better count on none. -
I have never sealed reloads, interested in hearing more on your means and methods. All my SD ammo has sealed primers.
-
Myth busted? I'm convinced normal cleaning and oiling will have no effect on ammo, but then I had never worried about it anyway.

Welcome from Iowa, via Arkansas! What part of Iowa? I am about midway between Omaha and Sioux City.

Very interesting, might need to get a patent for that before putting much about it on the web. I know I am still looking for something better in this category.

Same hear,I grease the cam and gas rings. Used to lightly grease the carrier rails but switched to EWL30 and now the special stuff. Used weapon shield, slip grease, and Enos slide glide, never had an issue.

You should!

Franklin Armory 11.5 in. barrel, NO TAX STAMP
jtallen83 replied to jtallen83's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
They claim to have an ATF approval finding. I have only seen references to it, not the actual letter. -
I have had good results with both supersonic and subsonic UMC, never knew there were possible issues with damaging the can. SIG ammo has given some top notch accuracy from both my fathers pistol and mine, just a little pricy though.

Like Jacob I am curious what a straight land a groove barrel would mean for a 12 gauge. I can see a narrow application for a cqb weapon but then those that require a short weapon for work can easily sbr one and as blue states the pistol brace is good enough for most of us. -

Wonder how long before I can buy aftermarket barrels to build these non-rifles myself? -
Sounds pretty dialed in!

Brownells new retro BRN-10A and B, wasn't sure where to put this, might have to put Brownells in the manufacturers section. Does not use Pmags though? https://www.brownells.com/firearms/rifles/semi-auto/brn-10-retro-rifle-308-7-62-20in-barrel-prod115389.aspx A Piece of History, Fresh from the Factory & Ready To Shoot The BRN-10™ by Brownells is a recreation of Eugene Stoner’s original lightweight .308 caliber battle rifle that revolutionized rifle design forever. For the first time, it is possible for the shooter of average means to own - and shoot - a meticulously detailed, factory-new, semi-auto replica at a fraction of a scarce original’s price. The BRN-10™ accurately replicates the original .308 AR in great detail - and it’s built to modern standards using the latest manufacturing technology. 21st Century Technology Meets Historical Detail. Designed in partnership with FM Products, our BRN-10™ receivers are fully machined, not forged, from 7075 T6 aluminum billet. The distinctive lines of late Armalite® AR-10® rifles are carefully reproduced, including the slab-sided lower with straight magazine well. Takedown pins, selector lever, magazine release, and bolt release all have crisp horizontal serrations that match the original rifles. Clean, Uncluttered, Still "Futuristic".The absence of a forward assist and shell deflector makes the BRN-10™ upper unusually uncluttered. Up top is the original "trigger"-style charging handle prominently located under the carry handle and positioned for rapid, easy operation - a practical benefit somewhat lost with the later charging handle location. The BRN-10’s rear sight is fully enclosed by the carry handle, like the original. A simple, A2-style horizontal thumbwheel lets you adjust elevation, while windage is changed by loosening a setscrew and drifting the rear peep. A small window in the rear of the carry handle lets you see the current elevation setting. Detail Under the Hood. Inside the BRN-10™, the carrier has the distinctive flats and two stabilizing flanges at the rear found on early carriers, and the entire bolt/carrier group is chrome-plated. The bolt itself is machined from 9310 carbon steel and magnetic particle inspected (MPI) to make sure there are no microscopic flaws that could cause premature failure - a benefit the original guns did not have. The BRN-10’s 20" barrel, chambered in .308 Winchester, is made for Brownells by Faxon. It first gets a QPQ Nitride finish for excellent resistance to surface wear. After nitriding, the barrel gets top coat that replicates the look of the classic manganese phosphate finish found on the 1950s rifles. The handguard drops in like a standard AR-15 handguard, but its external contours replicate the original AR-10® ’guard. Buttstock and pistol grip are from the Brownells Retro line; the buttstock is a Type D stock, without a trap door. Choose Your Model. The Brownells BRN-10™ rifle is available in two models. The BRN-10A leans heavily on the earliest rifles, with an open 3-prong Dutch-style flash hider, functional heavy fluting on the barrel under the handguard, and brown furniture that mimics the look of the original fiberglass. The BRN-10B is inspired by later export rifles and has a closed-prong, Portuguese-type flash hider, later-style black furniture, and a lightweight barrel that makes for a surprisingly quick-handling .308 rifle. Up-to-Date & Compatible. Brownells BRN-10™ rifles accept standard metal DPMS/SR-25 magazines. They are NOT compatible with Magpul PMAGs due to lower receiver contour. A majority of the components on the BRN-10™ are compatible with modern DPMS/SR-25 parts or AR-15 parts. See Compatibility Notes below. Brownells BRN-10™ Features & Details: Receivers machined from billet 7075 T6 aluminum .308 Winchester chambered, 20" barrel with 1-10" twist .750" diameter at the gas block "Trigger"-style charging handle on top of receiver, under carry handle Chrome-plated bolt/carrier group with period details Magnetic particle inspected 9310 carbon steel bolt Brownells Retro buttstock assembly & pistol grip Flat slip ring assembly Standard AR-15-style front sight base Period-style rear sight 5/8"-24 tpi muzzle threads Rifle receiver extension (buffer tube) with correct rifle buffer & spring 42" OAL Accepts standard, metal DPMS/SR-25 magazines (Magpul PMAGs will NOT work) Comes with one 20-round Brownells aluminum magazine, chamber safety flag, safety manual, and copy of the USGI Field Manual BRN-10A Features & Details: Heavy-contour barrel with aggressive fluting underneath the handguard Open, 3-prong, Dutch-style flash hider with black QPQ Nitride finish Brown Retro furniture to replicate original fiberglass look 9 lbs. wt. X-Caliber made mine, custom ordered. Thanks to the gurus here the required gas port size was eventually attained, came way undergassed. have to say I would recommend the Criterion.

New Scope for my Super SASS? Recommendations?

I have a PA 4x16 mil dot scope, for the money you can't beat it. It has done just fine spending some time on my three 308 AR's. Compared to my Bushnell Elie scopes it has a smaller eye box and a little less crispness in the image department, most noticeable past 200-300 yards and in low light. Turret adjustments are not as crisp but I don't find that a problem. Overall for medium distances on the range they are well worth the money, the Bushnell elites I have msrp for 7 to 10+ times the money the PA scope cost me. The warranty on the Bushnell scopes is lifetime replacement while the PA was one year. -
I have a 16 inch with rifle length gas system, shoots softer than my 20 inch AR-10 but then I started with a SLR adjustable gas block from the start. Sounds like a pretty good deal on the Faxon, you can always add an adjustable block and tune it down to a minimum.

No way to get a decent seal when wearing all the winter gear. My main purpose for wearing them was scent masking, they blocked my scent and I would put beaver castor or mink scent on the soles. Of course they were supposed to always remain in the detached garage, not a pleasurable aroma to be dragging into the house.
