My Matrix build has cratered primers like that from day one, more to do with tolerance between the bolt and firing pin than headspace I think. I also get that same dent in the neck on half my brass, my 716 really crimps them!
-
If you push does it line up better? Might be a tough go getting the pin drove through like the picture shows.

How big is that gas port? from a guy that always seems to need to know these things..............

Another 40 rounds with no cleaning, no issue. That's 125 from a clean start. It is a blast to shoot this thing at steel

Do the battalions still have their own shape cat eye reflectors?

Looks to be chromed, used the lube to clean it up, worked great, then wiped off any extra left as the manual indicates. The rest of the operating rod and the BCG got a medium coat of lube. Another 35 rounds tonight with no issues, fingers crossed!

Sweet looking rig!

Ran 50 rounds this morning after cleaning and using the lube, no issues. Shot M118LR, MK319, Magtech M80 ball, Radway M80 ball, and Pakistani ball. Hope to get another 50-60 rounds down the pipe before I head back to work Tuesday. I've decided if I can get 200 rounds suppressed without cleaning I'll keep it.

Good things come to those that wait, you are looking pretty good there! I have a PA 4-16 in an ADM 20 MOA mount. Bought them as a display set for under $200. It isn't my best scope but it has held up fine. It gets the same duties you are using your buddies for, testing new rifles. The eye box is small but it does what it is supposed to do and is more than adequate for the 100 yard range I do my test fires on.

11203200 is the part number for the A magazine catch, odds are you would have to buy the whole LPK to get it directly from Armalite.

Barrel lengths are different but ammo and suppressor are the same. It was running good after the last trip into Sig without a suppressor, first 80 rounds with suppressor did fine then it went downhill, the 10 rounds of MK319 ran fine and that makes sense being designed for SBR's. It would do fine for a few rounds of M80 every time I turned up the gas but no way should I be running suppressed on the adverse setting! As far as comparing rifles goes the only real comparison that is important to me is reliability. They are all a bit different and meant to fill different roles. The Sig is acting like it is auditioning for the role of picky bitch, I wrote that part out so those qualities are not needed. I just got her back together after a very thorough cleaning so sometime in the next couple days I will give her another go. The wear on the carrier is pretty heavy in my opinion but it is the only piston gun I have so nothing else to compare that to. If it fails again I will give Sig a call....again. At the same time I'm going to take it to the LGS and see what the trade value is on it, they are all Sig fans, love my Sig 9mm's but I'm not getting that warm fuzzy feeling from this 716.

Round count on the rifle is about 500 or so, maybe a bit more. It's been back to Sig a few times already so I kinda lost track with all the test runs. It has been about 100 rounds since a cleaning. It's easy for me to compare systems, what can I do with each, I'm finding I can't rely on the 716. I'm not one to just accept a rifle that is picky on ammo, I want a weapon to run with whatever I feed it and I want it to keep running even when I neglect it some. Sig's motto was always "To hell and back reliability", this thing only goes to the range and back and can't maintain reliability! I've got it tore down on the bench now, I'll clean it up good and give it another round. If I get the same results then it may just be going on the block and I'll build a 308 pistol that I can work on.

Just wait till we get to know him if you think this is a bit muchNobody should take this stuff serious, maybe take the suggestions related to scope mounting serious but the rest is just something to chuckle about, good ol fashioned ribbing. Relax and enjoy the ride!

I think this guy is going for original period stuff, money isn't the top concern for him. He may have to make do with clone stuff for now though while the hunt for original goes on.

The P716 was a big disappointment today! After another 20 rounds it started to act under-gassed, short stroking, no bolt lock back, etc. Turned up the gas and it ran good for maybe 20 rounds and started acting up again. It especially disliked M118LR, I'm thinking it is a slower burning powder that has a pressure curve not suited for such a short barrel....maybe. The crux of the problem though is the extra gunk a suppressor deposits in the gas system. It may be cleaner in the chamber but the gas piston started forming a coal mine! So much for piston guns being more reliable, the matrix DI gun has three times plus this many rounds and is still trucking along with the suppressor and no cleaning. The 300 BO is hitting 400 rounds suppressed, no cleaning, and not missing a beat. The Sig is looking pretty wimpy!

New 20" barrel, now it short strokes

Measured the firing pins; Wilson pin is 3.9435" overall and .665" from the back to the face on the shoulder. AR-10 is 3.942" overall and .591" to the face of the shoulder were the spring is seated. The spring may be a factor here as well. The wilson does seem to put a pretty good divot in the primer compared to everything else I run so it has good protrusion from the bolt. -
A friend needs some advice on scoping his M1 to make it a period correct sniper rifle. He has a M1 Garand (USMC M1952 M1C). He needs to find an MC-1 USMC STITH Kollmorgen 4Xd scope with Griffin & Howe 1" mounts. Any leads on a source for these would be greatly appreciated, and make an old Marine very happy. This stuff is pretty much Greek to me.

I agree, you shouldn't have to.....but in reality if you don't play the game by the same rules they do then they win before the clock starts. For me the damage in my neck and back show up on x-rays and other scans but these tools cannot nail down when and where it happen. I simply keep my mouth shut and let them stew over the results their doctors report. In reality the accidents that actually caused the issues probably got off cheap but those since then have paid out good just wanting me to go away. I never have to lie, just keep my mouth shut on any previous history, they are not allowed this information till discovery starts.

Yep, I tried that high mount when I first got an AR-10, tried a setup that allowed you to see the irons under the scope, changed it real fast. Heads up height works for red dots/ Binion type sight pictures but scopes need to be kept as low as possible IMHO.

I will check that asap, been bugging me that I didn't dig deeper right away. We gotta make this stuff a sticky somewhere and get some samples of other brand BCG's. -
I've won every time! Bought the wife a new car with the extra cash from the last one. It's all how you play the game, always play to win! I treat the insurance companies the same way they try to treat me, lie, cheat, and steal! Maybe if you count the pain from the broken necks it's not a total win.........

Lost my 20 year old cat about a year ago, every time I get out the case for the AR-10 all the hair embedded into the foam reminds me how much she enjoyed napping there while I cleaned the rifle.

I double triple checked that bolt length on the wilson. When it comes time to clean the wilson nib I will check it. If I have time I will try to figure out where the extra is, thinking it was in the tail. -
