  1. I'm putting the final touches on my latest build, a Matrix receiver set, 14.7 inch pencil barrel, SLR adjustable gas block and a d. wilson lightweight BCG. I've ordered an enhanced carbine spring from Taccom. http://www.taccom3g.com/enhanced-carbine-spring.html One of my last decisions is to run a buffer with the weights removed, leave them in, or get the lightweight set-up from Taccom that is basically a two part weightless buffer http://www.taccom3g.com/carbine-recoil-system.html Question, is anyone here running anything like this? I've found a few threads on barfcom that claim all the 3-gun guys are running a light buffer with adjustable gas block and having good results with very little muzzle movement and good recoil reduction
  2. Shoot the poop out of it!
  3. I tend to agree. I get sick of this crap about moderate mooselimbs, it is not a moderate religion. It is a religious, political , moraes system all rolled into one, no room for "non-believers".
  4. Midwest usually includes some purple loctite to use between the handguard and barrel nut. Between that and just snugging up the bolts you shouldn't have an issue.
  5. Dr's told me I'd never work again so I thought the government would be the ideal place for my circumstances, either way I was getting a check from the government so at least I can try to earn this one;-)
  6. Got it in my "simple auto fill" on the toolbar. Got to be careful when I mention the DOT, I only need a few years to lock in my retirement check but I don't seem to be able to take the bureaucratic route and just do as little as possible, fly under the radar they call it.....made me some "friends" in my short time there. and I mentioned them again so, DISCLAIMER: The opinions above are my own personal opinions and in no way reflect the policy of the DOT.
  7. Your dead nuts on with the bureaucrat issue. They try to convince me to get that "big promotion" and raise but what I see is a job that amounts to spreadsheets and emails all day long with only a few minutes of the day available for actual field work if they are lucky. I'll take less money and be out on the site doing and being around what I love instead of fretting over the wording of an email afraid I'll make someone look bad or worse yet make them do some work........ and again....DISCLAIMER: The opinions above are my own personal opinions and in no way reflect the policy of the DOT.
  8. Engineers, you can talk to them all day long but you can't tell them a f**k'n thing! Technically I'm an "Engineering tech" for the federal DOT...code for rookie engineer babysitter there. DISCLAIMER: The opinions above are my own personal opinions and in no way reflect the policy of the DOT.
  9. So they actually call the sign that tells you not to carry a 30-06??? Does that mean taking in a 30-06 is OK???? Irony, sometimes not so funny.......
  10. He had only learned of the cancer on Dec. 26th, I suppose when you stay as "tuned" as he did you don't feel much pain. http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/12/r-i-p-lemmy-kilmister-motorhead-frontman-dead-at-70/
  11. The description is not exactly information heavy...........mixed reviews it seems.
  12. We lost a great one today, Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead died from cancer today. I got to see him live when I was in the service, he was truly Dr. Rock in more ways than one!
  13. Yep; http://www.advanced-armament.com/762-SDN-6_p_433.html There are more out there that will do a wide variety of calibers but I'm betting if it does it all it doesn't do any the best. http://libertycans.net/mystic-x/ http://www.griffinarmament.com/Recce-7-Silencer-p/garec7.htm http://www.silencershop.com/gemtech-one.html and there is more:-)....Dammit I want one, any of them would do...........#*^*#@% Iowa!
  14. If you're using Lancer mags please join in with some feedback here. The Wife got me a Lancer L7AWM 20 round mag for an anniversary gift today. Well made mag by appearances, even has a slot underneath the floor plate for draining water or you can move the lever over and it closes it up for dusty conditions. The FDE is a good match for both my Magpul FDE and the Midwest Industries FDE. Fits easily and drops free in both my Sig 716 and my Matrix build.Measurement for C.O.A.L. is 2.85 inch compared to a M118 P-Mag at 2.835 and a standard gen 3 P-Mag at 2.825. It also has steel on the front to prevent the groove wearing in that I'm starting to see on my P-Mags. With winter storm putting down 12 inches of snow I won't be test firing it any time soon but while doing a function test I did see a concern. The Lancer does not raise the bolt catch very high; Compared to a P-Mag; The P-mag pushes it all the way up while the lancer doesn't even push it up enough to cover the whole bolt lug. It would seem to be a spring strength issue. When I take out a P-Mag and place the Lancer in the follower will rise up and touch the bolt catch where the P-mag left it, it just won't push it up that high on its own. The follower moves very smoothly on the Lancer so it does not appear to be a break-in issue. This might not be an issue at all but it appears the P-mag grabs the bolt with much more authority.
  15. The Wife was kind enough to get me one of Jacob's slings for an anniversary gift, it won't be the last one I get. Does everything I need a sling to do without a bunch of extra crap hanging around. Very well done Sir!
  16. I've got a nice plumb post across the basement from my work area that I line up on now, chunk of blue tape works for eyeballing the elevation. A small rosewood Disston level from the early 1900's works for checking level, old but very accurate.

  19. I tried one of those bullet shaped laser bore sighting gadgets, it would trace a 12+ inch circle at 20 foot when you turned it in the chamber. I get way better results with my eyes, even with old eyes! The cat likes the laser though.......... Didn't have any better luck with the Bushnell bore-sight kit for multiple calibers, same 12+ inch circle when you turn it.
  20. They originally suggested a "dull drill bit" was to blame....ROTFLMAO! They would have been money ahead just following the thread and adjusting what they are doing instead of spouting bull, this crowd has some serious detectors when it comes to bullchit!
  21. Looks like X-caliber has a one size fits all approach to gas ports, that pretty close to where mine started life. Looking forward to seeing how yours groups, mine spreads a bit when the heat is on.

  23. My barrel was a 16 inch rifle length gas so I had to open it more than one would in an 18 inch rifle length gas. If you can, get a measurement with calipers on the bit that fits the tightest. My bit set was off when it came to the charts so I just forgot what number was on the bit and measured. I'd post up with the port size before drilling, people here with a ton more experience than me will be able to tell you if you are already close or undersized. Having an inch between the bolt face and the catch doesn't sound right. I had something around a strong 1/4 inch and members here advised me to put quarters in the bottom of the buffer tube till I got close, like 1/8 inch, an inch would be a big stack of quarters, better check and make sure you have the correct buffer. I also had to notch the extension tube for the detent so I could get one more turn on it, sounded like it was a common issue with Aero but then I was matching in to a different brand receiver. If your BCG has a full inch before it hits the catch it will be awful hard on it. Give these guys your port size and they will have a good idea if that may be the issue, I just assumed due to the X-caliber reference and my own experience.
  24. The wife bought me one of the Magpul Gen 3 P-Mags for the longer M118 ammo for Christmas. My 7.62 175 gr. FGMM was scrapping the tips along the front in the standard mags so the M118 version went on my list. It is real close to scrapping but does have just a slight gap at the tip. They measure 2.835 in. inside compared to my standard Gen 3's at 2.825 in. Now I never had any function issues with the longer rounds in the standard P-mag but the 10 rounder I use most of the time on the range is showing a pretty good groove from the bullets dragging. Wish they would do a M118 version of the 10 rounder, I can tell already the bags will be stacked high for bench work. The M118 versions easily drops free from my Matrix and my Sig. I'll run some rounds after the snow blows through in a few days. https://www.magpul.com/products/pmag-25-m118-lrsr-gen-m3-window
  25. My Sig 716 is marked 7.62x51 NATO but Sig recommends and tests fires with 308 match ammo.
