Out in the middle, use to hunt north of Higgensville several years ago. Nice deer population out there.

After church on Sunday went over to our associate pasters place to do some shooting and took my LR308 with me and 40 rounds of 175gr PPU ammo. I loaded 5 rounds in the magazine and shot all 5 with no problems, so I loaded 5 more rounds and gave it to a friend of mine and he experienced short stroking so I turned up the gas on the gas block by a 1/4 turn and he still experienced short stroking. After he finished I handed my rifle to my son who also experienced the same thing so I took the rifle from him put some rounds down range no problems, hand the rifle to my associate paster back to short stroking again. So what gives is my rifle in love with me :love4: and doesn't want anybody to touch her or what <dontknow> can you guy's think of what cause this because it runs flawless for me so I'm not to worried but curious as to the cause. The only difference that I can think of is that I was shooting left handed and everybody else was shooting right (shouldn't make a difference). So whachya think?

I broke an extractor
seasprite replied to Jeffw78's topic in DPMS Panther Arms LR-308 | Bushmaster 308
When DPMS sent me my new extractor they included a new spring that was heavier. Took alot of thumb juice to hold it in place to get the pin in. -
Use to be that way for me until the owner of the property I hunted sold it been out of action for a couple of years and a buddy at church said I could start going him. But the drought were having here is playing havoc on the hunting or maybe its just because its a new place for me and I haven't figured it out yet. Actually both are probably playing a part in it but I'll get it figured out <thumbsup> Nice hunt survivalshop <thumbsup>

Well I had a day off on Sat. so I headed for the range to do some testing. The weather conditions were as follow: Temp: 44* with a low solid overcast wind n/a I took the chronograph with me but due to the conditions I was not able to get any readings. I also took a clean target and with the help of the ON TARGET program I plotted the center point of each group to with a different colors of pencils that my daughter had. This works good as long as you don't have flyers or pull shots which I did >:(. My upper OCW is going to be between 45.5gr and 45.8gr of CFE 223. I haven't really decided on a lower node yet but I want to say around 44gr. NoFail, If you have chrony readings 45.5gr through 45.8gr could you post them so I can get an idea of how fast these are running. Thanks I had no pressure signs through the test which makes me wounder how far I go but I think I'm going to be satisfied where I'm at. Now on to the target pics, you guy's might notice a .50cal hole in one my targets from a guy that was 2 lanes to the right of me go figure <dontknow>. Now I'm off to load for seating depth test going to start at 2.820 and go down to 2.780. I don't think I'll be shooting all these have a feeling I'm going to hit high pressure before then I just hope I find a good depth that my gun likes before then.

Very nice <thumbsup> glad someone will be eating venison this year. How many deer hanging in the trees in the background looks like I can make out 2.

Oracle blank canvas

Just be sure to oil the snockers out bolt and carrier(dripping) for the first 200 rounds these rifles are usually pretty tight when new. -
Alright here's what I did I put threaded swivel stud on the forearm with a some fender washers to hold it in place so I could use my bi-pod. The only problem I've run into carrying this way is with the stud on the bottom and my 6 round hunting mag is the rifle can flip upside down but it is manageable to keep from happening. The one other problem I had was when crossing a creek I ended up sticking the muzzle in some mud getting up on the far bank but was able to clear it with a stick through one of the slots on the flash hider. I blame my self for not watching the muzzle more closely. After reading Magwa's thread I decided to get the Apex hand guard for my rifle and different sling this ones actually for my Winchester 94.

Oracle blank canvas
seasprite replied to flatwins's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Nice, thats the same model I have so far I have put a Geissele ssa trigger and low profile adjustable gas block. Next is going to be the Apex gaiter hand guard and a new magpul butt stock. Haven't decided on what model for the butt stock yet. Been able to put 1/2 moa groups with my hand loads so far. I hope you enjoy yours I know I love to shoot mine. -
I'm glad you guy's like it I figured since the EBR is gas operated we could use the same fundamentals for are AR's. I also found there training video on optics but I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Maybe one of you guy's can look at it and give me a review. Been working 12 hour days here lately and haven't had the time or energy to do it barely have time to respond to this post Oh well its going to pay for some upgrades for my rifle ;D

Sorry to here about your hunt shepp, we had the same kinda of luck here in MO. dry hot summer with warm dry fall. Almost everybody I talked to struck out this year. As far as carrying my .308 in the field I found that having it slung across the front of my chest was the easiest way to carry it. I just need to get a forearm that I can put a sling stud on the side of it.

Hope you guy's learn something from this, I did. I figure that a lot of this info should transfer to the AR platform. Going to check out some of the other videos they have.

The Lee classic turret press does work for the .308, Thats the only press I own and it turns out good ammo as long as I do my part. I don't know about Lee's other turret press with the aluminum base vs. the cast iron base.

Well bad news fellas I got to the range to only find out that they were not open :'( I checked the web site before I left to see if they had posted they weren't opening today but there was no notice so I thought it was business as usual but that wasn't the case. There was at least 6 other cars waiting at the gate when a conservation employee drove by and saw all us waiting and said they wouldn't be open today. So in my frustration I put the rifle away and grab my Springfield 1911A1 and my High Standard HD Military and went to the indoor pistol range to do some shooting with my wife. On are way home stopped at Harbor Freight and saw they had a gun safe on sale for $260.00 (normally $400.00) plus I had a 25% off coupon so I ended up with price of $195.00 which is a little over 1/2 price off so that worked out pretty well I thought. The bad news now is that I'm going to be working my butt off for the next month (UPS) so it probably won't be until January before I can test these loads.

I know I said I was going to take a break but here I sit at it again this time I'm using 178gr A-max with Winchester cases :cookoo: is there a cure <dontknow>. I've got 30 test rounds loaded up from 43.7gr to 46.4gr of CFE223 in .3gr increments. The Winchester cases once fired some from my gun some not. The brass has been sized, trimmed, debured and camphor, primer pockets uniformed and flash holes debured. cases have been weighed and sorted to within 1.0gr. The cartridge length is 2.820". Testing will be on Fri. expected high temp. 43* plan on taking the chronograph if the wind is not to high hate to see it blow over. You guy's have a safe and fun Thanksgiving <thumbsup>

Shoot I get the LOOK just for upgrading my current rifle <laughs>

Thanks NoFail I guess since the UBR is twice the price of the ACS I'm going to have to shoulder it and get a feel for it before I make my decision on that the next fun I mean Gun show is in Dec. right before Christmas. Just got done prepping 27 Winchester cases for my 178gr A-max test I might have a chance to hit the range this Fri. so I figured I would start my load development. This reloading stuff is just to addicting :cookoo: I just can't seem to stop.

Had a similar issue a few months ago with an broken extractor but mine was from being overgased. Installed an adjustable gas block and it seems to have solved that issue. I'm wanting to install a free float hand guard and a new stock. I settled on the Apex gaiter grip hand guard. But on the butt stock I've narrowed it down to the UBR or the ACS. I've looked at the reviews on the ACS but haven't done any for the UBR. Soooo since your the proud owner of an UBR how do you like it? :)

I'm actually wanting to get back to the range and rechrony this load and have a good temp range to go off of to see how temp. sensitive the CFE223 powder is. At 85* I had an avg. of 2642fps and at 95* it was 2663fps so I would like to see what a 30*-40* would do to the velocity when I get a chance I'll update my OCW thread with the results. Whats up with your buffer are you having cycling issues with it ? I know mine has the stock DPMS carbine buffer and spring been toying with the Idea of a Tubs flat wire spring. Whats the deal with JP captured spring is it suppose to lesson felt recoil?
