  1. Thanks guy's I'll contact Clint and see what he says. I guess I learned something new today didn't realise that tungsten was heavier than lead. NoFail, I take it that you have no problem cycling the lighter weight bullets like 147gr on down. Of course I probably won't shoot anything less than the 147gr.
  2. I'm wanting to put a heavy buffer in my DPMS oracle to slow down the extraction time on my rifle. Currently I have the O.E. one from DPMS and I'm getting an ejection at 1:00 to 2:00 along with some slightly bent rims on factory ammo and my reloads. To add to this my extractor broke at the range the other day. In researching the heavy buffers I noticed different weights and wanted to know how to choose the best weight for my rifle? If I go to heavy will I beat up the locking lugs or start peening the barrel face or the bolt <dontknow> On a side note has anybody ever taken the weights out and replaced them with some lead shot to see how heavy a buffer you can run and can you run lead shot permanently in place of the weights in the buffer? Thanks guy's
  3. I hear yea there brother I got my first pair of glasses this year and had to actually adjust the focus for the cross hairs for first time ever. :'( It sucks getting old.
  4. Seems to me with 6.8 ammo being about the same price as .308 I would choose .308 for the increased power and range over the 6.8. IMHO I would only choose the 6.8 if you wanted stay with AR15 frame and weight but wanted better capability than the 5.56.
  5. Here's some pics on how I'm trying to do this. On the second pic the case on the left was annealed way to much. The one in the middle is factory and the one on right is one of my reloads that I annealed. After reading the link from texas30cal, I think its been annealed a little to much.
  6. Started testing the 47.1gr of CFE 223 yesterday everything was going good until I got to the 2.800 seating depth. I ended up busting my extractor >:( so that ended my day right there. I called DPMS and they said they would mail one out to me <thumbsup> so now I need to know why this happened so it doesn't happen again. I'm thinking that I'm over gassed and the bolt is unlocking early when there is still to much pressure in the cartridge for it to properly extract. The reason I say this is my ejection is at 1:00 to 2:00 o'clock and some of my cartridge rims are bent. Now I need to know the best way to solve this issue, I,m thinking of going with a heavy buffer to increase the lock time. I'm going to start a separate thread on this so here is the pics had some major set back on 2 of my rounds dew to the FTE issue since they had no place to go with the spent casing still in the chamber.
  7. I have tried this recently with a propane torch battery powered drill and a deep well socket with a bucket of water and I think it worked out well. I used a couple of pieces of brass that the primer pockets were stretched out on to practice with first. The first piece I heated it to long and the color change went to the middle of the case body but after that I knew what to look for and how to hold it in the flame and the rest that I did look like the factory annealing on the unfired cases. Does this mean I did a good job or proper job of annealing I have no idea. <dontknow> I'll try to update with some pics later.
  8. Yep this So far I have some thats on its 3rd loading and seems to be holding up. Have had some (5) pieces with stretched primer pockets due to high pressure during load development.
  9. <lmao> <lmao> Now I have to clean Dr. Pepper off the keyboard
  10. I sit at the dinning room table and aim at a white spot on some electrical conduit on a pizza restaurant thats about 100 to 120 yards away. I'm about 20 to 25 feet back from the window. So far the SWAT team hasn't deployed there counter sniper yet and that bird poo is great for dry fire practice. <lmao>
  11. So far I have been using PPU brass from a case of ammo I bought at a gun show last year but I know eventually I'll have to start buying my brass. Every time I check the buckets at the range nothing but steal nobody seems to by brass cased ammo anymore unless your a reloader. Going to bookmark this thread for future reference <thumbsup> Of course the Lake City plant is just a few miles from me what I wouldn't give to go shopping there :o
  12. Thanks Planeflyer, doubt I could of explained it any better. I like that redical NoFail, they look pretty fine for reaching out there are they in mils. or moa?
  13. To bad they can't be brought up on charges for crimes against the constitution for this kinda poo.
  14. Looks like Wednesday for me I went to the gun show today picked up a couple of cheap CCW holsters one for me and one for the wife along with a lee double disk kit so I don't have to weight powder charges by hand if I want.
  15. As long as its .308 because shooting twice is just plain silly.
  16. Very nice NoFail, <thumbsup> Now lets see some groups with that nice looking rig.
  17. I know who my vote is going for but the problem is I really don't like his policies either <dontknow> I just hope us law abiding gun owners aren't left holding the short end of the stick 4 years down the road.
  18. <thumbsup> I'm eagerly awaiting your range report <munch>
  19. Well I just can't except it that the 2.815 seating depth load is no good all test before this one show this load should be good to go so I went ahead and checked a box of 20 that I had loaded up. found that the col varied by .007" What the heck. So I started checking things to see what was going on. Found that some of my rims were bent from early extraction & causing the variance in my seating depth. I went ahead and loaded 20 rounds of known good brass so I'll see if things improve. I also started my 47.1gr seating depth test I've got about half of my test rounds done so maybe this weekend we'll find out how things are progressing.
  20. Well I just walked in from the range and it was disappointing to the least my first group showed promise but it never did improve on later groups. My velocities were what I expected them to be with new seating depth of 2.815 but the ES and SD numbers were way to high. My avg. vel. 2630 ES 52 SD 25 don't know what happened <dontknow> In previous test this load group pretty good and showed better numbers across the chrony. Didn't show any pressure signs today so thats a plus but that was the only thing that looked good. I have 40 rounds loaded at 2.790 seating depth that I'm saving for cooler weather to see how they do. So I guess I'm going to do a seating depth test for the 47.1gr powder load now and go from there.
  21. Good luck NoFail, <thumbsup> hope you find a good load I just got back from the range myself I'll post my results in my thread but I will tell you I was disappointed.
  22. The weather guy told us this is dry desert heat were having in Missouri :cookoo:. I wish you guy's would take it back along with your sand cookies <laughs>
  23. About time <thumbsup> Just got done loading 20 rounds at the 2.815 seating depth. Had to make a trip to Cabela's for more powder and bullets so I'm good for now too. Still contemplating on whether or not I want to go and shoot in 102* temp tomorrow.
  24. I like it <thumbsup> were limited to 10 round mags for deer in MO. might have to try this myself.
  25. <thumbsup> Nice range day. To bad the government doesn't trust the people that put them in office. Wounder what our founding fathers would say about the way things our now.
