  1. never mind, the problem is me. i went to the Hware store last week to replace the flat head phillips screws that came with it & i got allen flat heads instead because the phillips dont look good. i bought 4-40's when the thing is tapped 6-32... BONE HEAD!!! :cookoo:
  2. Ok, I'll clean and the then try again. Must be it since loctite no workie....
  3. JD handguard is secured to the barrel nut "collar" using 6 4-40 flat head screws. they keep coming loose. Just from handling it and playing the action they come loose after a little while. this will not do, obviously. I tried to loctite the screws and that helped not at all. thinking maybe try some thin as I can get shimstock from hware store to fit between the sleeve where tube contacts collar. I will keep you informed of of anything else I learn about it. But if I can't fix then this JD handguard will have to go, pity because I really like how it looks and it cost me $200.
  4. My build all top shelf parts. I'm in it for 2500+ and I still need a scope & mount & miscellaneous things. Yes I tended to pick parts with a price that's for sure.
  5. fkg LoL!!!! I just showed Easter bunny to the family, they not too happy <lmao>
  6. Yeah, well, at least they are photogenic <lmao>
  7. Seems JD may have/had a consistency problem. I hope it is in the past tense, as in "had".
  8. Thanks, 16" barrel & 14" FF tube. I like the tube it looks great, but now I wish I would have went with JP Enterprises 15.5" FF, but still this one is good. You definately need this wrench for the JD hand guard http://www.jsesurplus.com/barrelwrenchmultitooldpms-1.aspx I bought the JD rails so IDK about that.
  9. All is well that which ends well. Pmags seem to fit well. I warmed up to the upper with FA. I really like it now, it looks good. Nice form, now have to test function. Only problem with garage is the extended family members who think it is their free storage space......
  10. Andreas, this here > http://308ar.com/forum/accurizing-the-308ar/my-upper-now-lapped/ Maybe it does make difference I cannot truly know. but it makes sense to me.... I have not shot it yet. I put a cheap red dot site i have on her for now. Thought I might go out to the range Saturday but the weather was horrible after all. But she ready to get broke in now. Will be interesting to find out how she functions. But in working bolt with charge handle the bolt seems to engage barrel extention lugs very smoothly, like right on target in there. Pmags I have fit nice and fall out on their own when I push mag release. Cycled rounds through her and they load and extract nicely like that anyway.... Might try again Saturday for the range.......
  11. Sounds like you know what you are doing brother Andreas
  12. You can use any bolt carrier with the JP Enhanced Bolt, except Armalite, I'm not sure about Armalite.
  13. The one we made is from the hardest chromoly there is.
  14. No that is all it does.
  15. The tool, no. He will use tool to lap all AR-10/LR-.308 uppers he builds or anyone can send him his/her upper for this service. And if any y'all's uppers were anything like mine you would want it done if you knew. I couln't tell if it was flat or not until he got stared with the procedure
  16. Oh cool I knew that might be it <thumbsup> Yes I am thinking of some offsets on the side maybe later.
  17. You can tell how flat the end is becoming
  18. I came across a guy who does gun smithing and he hooked me up big time. He builds AR15 uppers and laps all of his upper receivers. When I told him I wanted to lap my .308 upper he said he didn't have a tool for it. I knew there wasn't a tool so I said we can make one, so he did <munch> He had it made with some super hard chromoly. He used a caliper to measure my uppers bore and then just went and had the tool made just like that. He was very excited to do this on his first .308 AR. So now he has a lapping tool for our .308's ;D Also he pointed a slight mark occurring on one of the bolt lugs from engaging it's barrel extension counterpart lug. He polished an area on the barrel extension lug that was causing the mark and now the bolt even seems to engage smoother after he went ahead and torqued the barrel, but then again it could be that it's that much better because of the lapping. He took good care of me and my rifle. If anyone is interested in having this lapping service, or whatever, done for your .308 you can find him at www.civtactical.com
  19. Bob, you should get what you want for a scope. That's why we build our own anyway so we can have everything the way we want, not what some gun maker wants to sell us. But I had a feeling if you compared the 1-6x I want and the Trigicon 1-4x you might see a big difference in value. They say spend at least half as much on an optic as you spent on your rifle. I can't spend that much now, spent too much on my rifle alone. But then this new SS 1-6 came along and I think it is a optic that will compete with new 1-6's coming out too that will be in the $2000 price point area. And when they do their group buy over at snipershide.com we'll get a great bargain probably with mount & rings, perfect for me right now. What is a R.T.S.?
  20. Here is some review of the new SWFA I will get, Bob. Much more scope for the money, I think a .308 deserves at least this much more in optics power, and the new retical is awesome for use with the FFP (first focal plane) capabilities. http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3064954&page=1
