I was yelling for people to do this when the Pandemic started. I ordered a side, got it within a month, and by then my butcher was a year out on orders. I just ordered a whole beef as I am buying for my son and nephew as well for September delivery. JT is correct that it is a huge investment to start. And getting tougher to do as finding help is difficult. I thank my lucky stars I have known this butcher for 30 years and consider him a friend. He and his wife are doing it alone now because they can’t find good help. Fortunately I am on his list as an old and valued customer. The brother in law of my propane guy raises the beef and does a great job, the quality is much better then what you get in chain stores. I do the same with a commercial fisherman up here so I get three kinds of locally caught fish. The healthy way to buy and eat.
  2. So a 2016 thread. What new technology in headlamps in the last five years?
  3. Learned something. A 2 stroke backpack leaf blower in half an hour releases more hydrocarbons then a Ford F150 driven from Florida to Alaska.Worst polluting implement made for its size by far. Got an excuse not to use mine.
  4. Had to go go Minneapolis yesterday to honor and say goodbye to an old friend who is my son's Godfather. It was 100F I roasted to death. Got back to Superior at 6 pm, it was 62F. That Lake protects us from temperatue extremes year around.
  5. Thank God for Superior. Otherwise we would be 92F.

Welcome Bruce. Still in Minnesota? Lived there for 50 years before becoming a cheesehead.

After seeing this I had to get in on the action. I got this on closeout to add to my trailer kit.
  8. I noticed that. Might be right.
  9. This was reposted on the Wisconsin Outdoor News Facebook page. I do not know the originator. Always inspect your ammo. Even new. I posted this on my hog hunters group. Seemed it caught a lot of attention. For all of you out buying ammo? The two pictures are a recent purchase at a walmart. After purchasing the ammo it was noticed that the neck was cracked on one of the shell casings. So every round was inspected and 13 out of 60 of the shells had cracked necks. This isnt walmarts fault. This is the fault of the new manufacturer of remington ammo since post bankruptcy purchase. Vista outdoors purchased Remington ammunition post bankruptcy and seems to have no quailty control. Please check your ammo before purchasing. A cracked shell casing will cause the firearm to exploded and cause severe injury..even death. Just wanted to pass along this info. A lot of first time gun buyers out there and dont know what a danger this is! Please inspect your ammo!

I got there. I got the warning from my Doc: “keep going and You will have type 2 Diabetes”. So two weeks ago I cut out bread, potatoes, sugar, and most processed foods. Animal protein, leafy vegetables, vegetables, nuts, peanut butter, coffee, water and sparkling water are the only things I eat now. Dropped 11 pounds in a week. Thank God I can still eat meat.
  19. I waded through a mile of brush to find this place in 1987. Glad I did.Didn’t have a neighbor within a mile for the first four years. Now it is a suburban development and all the wildlife has moved out. Still have views though. This is the Coast Guard dropping the navigation Buoy Tuesday.
  20. Well done Grasshopper!

Had two pork shoulders and only used one for sausage so I am smoking the other one along with a cut of sow belly. My homemade bacon just came off the smoker.

I mix Penzey’s Breakfast Sausage seasoning with an equal amount of Penzey’s Italian Sausage seasoning, a fair amount of Worcestershire sauce, and whole fennel seed to make an all purpose sausage we use for breakfast, pizzas, spaghetti, and egg fritatas. I also buy a package of bacon bits and pieces, grind them up and add them to the sausage mix sometimes. Gives a little “bacony” flavor to the sausage. I use a kitchen aid blender with the optional meat grinder attachment.

20 pounds homemade bulk sausage today.
  25. Don’t think it does. I went with the Luth to keep the weight down as it was quite a bit lighter then the Magpul products.
