  1. I took mine out for the first time sunday, and with crappy 35+ year old south African surplus 762 nato you had to duck the brass flying out. I think the furthest on mine went about 20 feet. and I had FTFs, but no FTEs. Its funny how differently they all operate particularly at first till they are broken in and all adjustments are made.
  2. hello from FL
  3. Do you have a reloading tumbler?
  4. that is sharp. Is it a 308 too or a 338 lapua? can't quite tell from the shells
  5. Overall, not too bad of a sunday morning. Brought 110 rounds with me (and 100 for the 1911) and my 16 year old daughter. Went through the tedious one shot - clean, one shot - clean cycle to break in the barrel then started trying to zero my $25 Chinese holographic sight. Retrospectively, I should have worked on the BUIS instead, but it wasn't particularly about accuracy, just running rounds through to get breakin started. I had a couple issues though. On some of the early shots, it seemed to me like the extractor was scraping the bottom of the brass excessively (not on the rim though, on the bottom) but it seemed to lighten up as we went on. The 2 more significant problems were failure to feeds, failure to fires, and I think not such a big deal the bcg not sliding all the way forwards without letting it slam from locked. So my ammo was 80s vintage south African mil surplus, and I was a dummy and didn't tumble or clean it first either. Some of it was fairly rough, and as I mentioned, some failed to fire entirely. So i'm thinking the failure to feeds were due to the crappy ammo vs the rifle itself. It might be though that I have the adjustable gas block turned down some from fully open too though. not really sure how to tell. Out of 110 rounds, 4 failed to fire, and we had maybe 15 or so total failure to feeds It was satisfying to shoot, loud but pretty controllable. when I had the reflex sight close to zero, I was able to dump a full 20 round mag in less than 20 seconds and stay in a group 3-4" at 25 yards. I'll worry about actual accuracy once my scope rings come in :) Recoil wasn't bad at all. Granted the 100 or so rounds we fired were split up some, but If my 16 year old 120lb daughter can deal with it, its pretty good. It could be the Mako GL shock stock is helping some, without something else to throw on though I have nothing to compare it to.
  6. you can get a 17" barrel with rifle length gas if its important to you. From what I can tell, the main difference is without an adjustable gas block to control it, having the longer expansion length of a rifle gas system smooths out the motion, which will result in less felt recoil.
  7. whats the other rifle? I'm just interested to hear it, wondering what you're shooting with that sort of glass :)
  8. I guess it was just the thought that this way, its possible for a slam fire if you are pulling back the charging handle and accidentally let go. I suppose I'm used to thinking more about handgun safeties, where its more of a firing pin block.
  9. So this is my first AR platform rifle, and one thing I noticed as I was checking headspace and working the action was that I could only move the safety from fire to safe when the hammer is cocked. Is that normal? I've never had it be that way on any other rifle or pistol. so to be clear, rifle all apart, no bcg in, hammer already down - will not flip to safe. pull hammer back to fully cocked, can easily flip to safe. flip to fire, pull trigger - will not flip to safe. So is that how they all are? Or did I screw something up with my LPK install
  10. A company that i'm helping out here and there with odds and ends happens to manufacture silencers.... and the owner offered me one of their 22lr ones. I've got a Walther P22 that would be perfect for it, but I need to work out what i'll need to do paperwork wise as well so I figured you guys could point me in the right direction. I don't have a gun trust YET, but I have a template that was used in another state and my wife is talking to her attorney friend tonight so I should have it set up shortly.
  11. for a BCG, if you aren't trying to go cheap, the Harris Tactical nickel boron coated are pretty sweet and in stock still http://www.harristacticalonline.com/308-762x51-Nickel-Boron-Complete-Bolt-Carrier-Group-NIB-X-FA-HT-NB-308.htm Mags, I currently have 1 extra LR20 magpul pmag, and one 20 round ACS steel one both new in the package if you are interested
  12. its nice when the system works. hopefully he gets ole sparky ;)
  13. The upper, the barrel and the buffer tube are duracoated, the lower is cerakoted, and I think the quadrail is anodized, it came that color from Troy
  14. I need to take some pics from other angles too, so you can see the raptor charging handle :D
  15. not recently, but a few years back both in NYC and Waikiki there is a Japanese restaurant (the 2 are owned by the same family) that is a bbq place, similar to the Korean bbqs but instead of it being more or less the pan/wok like the Korean ones, its a grill that has a grid over it so you cook with open flames. Anyhow, damn, the beef tongue marinated in either their teriyaki or their spicy miso was utterly amazing. And the kids liked it too, till I said what it was.
  16. still need to oil it all up. Having a little bit of an issue with the rear takedown pin, I think I need to cut one or two loops off the spring to loosen it. outside of that, it all went together nicely
  17. that really is nearly the most retarded thing I can imagine. a plain no internal magazine bolt action that has a bayonet lug on it would be considered an assault weapon in CT now? craziness.
  18. Next time just make sure you only like pictures of evil black rifles. that should be better. There's a difference between liking a "page" and liking a post on the page.
  19. Welcome from Florida!
  20. I've found a few, but still mostly in the 250-350 range. I figure I'll just keep hunting and see what I can find between now and the end of the year. The lower won't be ready till the end of June at soonest anyhow, and I need to start shooting the 308. Should finally have the lower tomorrow, ordered it in January
  21. Nice! I've bought a few guitars, the coolest a 68 Greco Shrike, and tried to learn to play many times. But I still can't play.
  22. oh damn, that's even better. Only thing that could make them any better is a can ;)
  23. Hmm I found an 8.5 at an ok price, but that may be too small. or I dunno, maybe that's ok. screwit, I've got months to go on this AR anyhow.
