  1. hmm any tips on how not to do that when I finally get my lower in? :)
  2. I see some preorders around, but nada in stock
  3. I was actually purposefully trying not to post so much, I realized I was getting into an old forum habit of commenting on just about every post made and thought I was being excessive :)
  4. to add on the barrel discussion, unless you are shooting over 800 yards, you won't see any real improvement from a 20" match barrel to 24. more or less as vague rule of thumb a 16 is good to 600 yards, 20 to 800, and 24 to 1000+. You may want to consider these guys on the barrel as well, you can custom order a barrel how you want it, which is nice http://www.blackholeweaponry.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=48&osCsid=809c68469d97cf3467447f6c0b1cfc04 you are probably better off trying to source a complete BCG right now vs parts, particularly if you think you may switch to the jp bolt later. there is one place that has a preorder open http://redrockord.com/shop/rro-ar-10-bolt-carrier-group-bcg/ I have no idea what the company or the quality of their products is like though, so i'm not endorsing them, just sharing what someone else posted here. that handguard looks nice, but as has been mentioned you may be at the whim of what you can actually get vs what you want, unless you are willing to wait an unlimited amount of time. I'm building my first AR 308 (LR style) and started basically Jan 1st. I won't have all the parts till the end of April, and I as much as possible went with "what I can get", with just a couple of "what I really want" thrown in.
  5. I haven't seen any 16" free floats either, but there are 15s
  6. welcome from Florida. I had a pretty fun week in Amarillo, not sure if you are that far north.

    nice!
  8. I'm really just an occasional target shooter, with my guns primarily for home and other defense. I'm in Florida, so there is a real risk of post hurricane "issues". I've always wanted an AR, but felt that the .223 is a bit light of a load. My brother in Virginia hunts + texts me pictures of the deer, and here in FL the deer + wild hog hunting is also pretty sweet. So when the gun grabbers started the talk of a new assault weapon ban, I figured it was time to buy or potentially forget about ever buying. Still another month for the lower to be complete in production, but its going to be a super sweet custom rifle once its done.
  9. I've got my set (in just black) to mount on the FDE lower, but I figure i'll wait till they are installed till I leave up a review :)
  10. This is my boomstick
  11. not yet, I still am waiting till late april on the lower (and apparently BCG now too), so I won't need them before then. Figured i'd PM him at the start of April, still leaves plenty of time. Patience is rough
  12. yep, the troy mrf rail (all I could find inexpensively in FDE is pretty damn sweet on it instead. can't wait to torque down the barrel nut + install it + gas block for good! Extra happy the FDE is a perfect match with the duracoat magpul FDE.
  13. The only reason there is even that tiny gap is the barrel nut isn't all the way tightened down. Pretty sweet deal, under $200 for a free float 13.8 rail with a barrel nut for the 308 dpms here's the link to this model in 13.8 http://www.bigsupplyshop.com/search.asp?keyword=mrf-308 in both black + fde. That store also sells the troy TRX, even cheaper, but only has them in black.
  14. I'll also (if it looks good) give you the URL of the place I got it from. ridiculously low pricing, shipped same day as I ordered. $195 for the 13.8 in FDE.
  15. if you're willing to loan them once you test yours, i'll cover shipping both ways and throw in $10
  16. I've got a troy MRF 13.8" coming in today, i'll put up a pic once I test mount it
  17. same here, and my kids all play without it inverted. So when they say "dad, can you beat ____ for me" I have to remember to first go into options and flip it
  18. I understand that with the jp carrier, its a low mass carrier, is the bolt also a low mass bolt?

    Good deal!
  20. damn, its not that cheap anywhere that still stocks it, but $189 for 1000 shipped is still pretty damn good. even if I do have to cycle the slide manually. I figure that would let me be pretty unconcerned with range ammo costs. That's one of the things that bothered me some after starting down the road of building the 308, a fun day at the range could cost me $200 in ammo for that alone
  21. Has anyone shot these? cheap as dirt for target shooting. just not sure about barrel fouling and whether it would manage to cycle the slide. I do have an adjustable gas block so that might help
  22. Midway had the stripped slab sides in stock this week
  23. <thumbsup> I was thinking of going to the Tampa gun show today, but i'm broke anyhow so not much point.
  24. Damn, that is sweet. Now I need to go look for one :D
  25. That does seem like it would be a fun place to work. Good luck man!
