Measure the length difference and I'll see if I can turn down a piece of delrin for you instead of using a stack of heavy quarters. :D The length difference should be 3.375" (10.375" - 7") or thereabouts.

Should be fine. I (along with many others here) would recommend along the lines of getting a barrel that comes with a matching bolt to get the proper headspace. Remember, you're dealing with a significantly more powerful round than the 5.56.

Welcome.... There's no real standardization among the 308ar platforms so don't count on parts interchangeability. The LAR-8 is somewhat proprietary so you are likely to run into issues with finding an upper that isn't an RRA. The "common" platforms are currently the DPMS LR-308 pattern (DPMS, CMMG, S&W, Mega Arms, SI, etc), and the Armalite AR-10 pattern. Others are a hybrid between the two different patterns. The LAR-8 shares some (but not all) specs with the Armalite AR-10 pattern so some parts may be interchangeable but don't count on everything from an Armalite AR-10 to fit.

That's sad. I hear a lot of f'ed up stories about where these kids come from, what kind of environment they come from and sometimes it's scary bad. We got 5 of them here of various ages and colors. Sometimes I wonder why they haven't driven my wife batshit crazy yet.
