    Grilling

Thanks, looks like I will have a Masterbilt digital controlled 30" electric smoker with a Smoke Daddy on my wish list. I was looking at Brinkman combo propane charcoal smoker grills, but they have been discontinued.

    Grilling

I'm looking for a nice smoker to replace my old Brinkman round 1500 watt electric from the 1980 era, it is about burnt thru the bottom. I can't decide between electric or propane using the hickory mesquite chips up right. Or maybe a combo charcoal, wood and propane grilling and smoking unit I have seen at Lowes. That Masterbilt looks awful nice. Tell me about the "Smoke Daddy" is it attached to the side of the smoker? I do turkeys, briskits, and hams and almost anything with my old Brinkman. It has a porcelain water pan above the heater for liquids (water cooking wine and spices) I like the moist flavor mixed with the wood smoke. You load it up, Wood chips wrapped in foil, the liquid above the chips and two racks for the meat and put the lid on and plug it in for about 45 minutes per pound of meat. The results are great! The new ones all have an access door on the side. Mine does not have any access door, the smoker is sealed except for around the lid.
  4. Boresighting has worked for me for years starting with 105 towed howitzers also bolt action rifles. It saves ammo and allows a armorer to keep rounds on paper on a 200yard range. I used a Bushnell optic boresighter for bolt, lever and semi automatics where the center of the scope is less than 1.75" above the bore. The use of a street light or security light 50 to 200yds away works at sunset. With the borehole (Chamber) you need a laser for each family of cartridges, I have lasers for .308, .233 and 3006 lasers. They cost from $10 to $50 each depending on which brand you ger, Iuse the $10 ones when I can get them, they don't last over 8 or 10 times for me. I use them on mini14s M1s and on AR rifles where the scope is mounted over 2 inches above the bore set up a laser reflective target at 50 yards away and with the rifle or upper in a rifle holder insert the laser in the bore shining in the enter of the target and adjust the scope on the laser spot. I use a Federal ballistic table on my computer that allows you to set the bullet weight the zero distance and height of the sight above the bore for the correct point of impact, with a laser. Most of my setups have the bullet impact at 50 yards only an inch off at 50 yards for a 200 yard zeroIt usually gets the first five shots close to the point of aim. If you don't want to do a lot of measuring shoot a group holding dead center at your zero range and with the rifle held fast to where the scope is dead center on the target you shot adjust the scope exactly on center of the group without moving the rifle. . Reload and shoot another group aiming dead center.
  5. A very good cartridge case. I use them in .308 and 3006. When I was shooting long range service rifle matches with George Tubb, (David's father) he used a nickle plated Federal 3006 case with a tube primer. He always fireformed his new cases before a match with a light powder load and then only neck sized the case after the first loading. He kept a log book on every hundred cases. He had cases for his National match M1 and also for his favorite Winchester model 70. George was a WWII Army officer product of Texas A&M ROTC and a wonderful NRA director. From the George Tubb Texas A&M scholarship web page: "Mr. George E. Tubb was dedicated to the promotion of the shooting sports. This Canadian, Texas, rancher was the Texas “Ambassador to the Shooting World.” This native Texan and war hero served his nation and the people of Texas with distinction. He was President of the Texas State Rifle Association, a Director of the National Rifle Association, a Distinguished Rifleman, A High Master in High-power Rifle, and a member of eight U.S. Palma teams that competed internationally. In addition, he was a highly decorated World War II veteran. He was inducted into the Army from the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and was a battle-tested Infantry Company Commander at the age of twenty. He loved his family, God, ranching, his country, and the shooting sports. George was a true American patriot."
  6. Small base resizing loading dies resize the case to minimum case dimension to facilitate easy clambering in semi-automatic rifles like the 7.62x51/.308 Win. AR 10/ AR308 and M14/ M1A semi-automatics. Many reloaders loading for bolt action and single shot rifles prefer to only do minimum resizing and believe that they get better performance if they "Fire form" cases to custom fit their rifles chamber.

    "The fence"

    Thanks for shareing this story.
  8. It sounds like a kettle calling the pot black to me How childlike can you get? Calling me all kinds of trash. The statement about. "Use your $20 to buy OBOMA bumperstickers" you may need to increase your anger management meds. You all just keep on buying where you please and so will I. BTW. MY Giessele ssa trigger arrived here at 1:20PM today in the factory package with all the goodies. I'll use the $20 To buy 3 or 4 boxes of CI .22 long rifle ammo from Brownells where I have Been doing business since 1975. I forgive all of you for the harsh, crude, and hateful words you wrote against me. There are some good people here doing good work I applause you for that, keep doing good.
  9. From what I see looking at the hyperfire trigger,it's mechanical configuration is more bulky and it is reasonable to see where it requires more space to operate than triggers of conventional size and configuration. Kind like putting a 6.2 litre engine into a stock 1930 Ford coupe. It can be done but requires some mild modification to the coupe, however if I sell you a 6.2 litre engine I would think you should be told that it won't fit into all cars made since 1912. That information is on the Hyperfire web site. Thanks for reminding us men that don't always read the warnings and instructions before we buy a 6.2 trigger.
  10. Some good looking reloads. I still have a couple of thousand rounds of .45 auto lead semi-wadcutters, ,3006, 180 grain 30-30 and 38 special semi-wad cutters !2 ga. AA- trap shells I loaded back in the 1980s. I sold all my reloading stuff, when I got sick, except my Lee 12 Ga loadall my son used for his Remington 870 trap gun. looks good in the Folgers can!........ My Daddy used to say "If you get away from Folgers coffee and Camel cigarettes, you are just spinning your wheels."
  11. I feel the same way about anyone that does bad does bad to me. I say screw me once, shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me.
  12. I have ordered .223, .45 auto, .32 auto and .3006 from Eric at ammoman.com
  13. This is the trigger in question: Geissele Automatics AR-15/AR-10 Super Semi-Automatic (SSA) Trigger Two Stage 4.5 LBS Non-Adjustable Steel Black 05-101 I wonder how Geissele feels about them selling his product for $210 and free shipping? No I didn't buy any surplus magazines from CTD. I didn't flog to anyplace to buy ammo and survival stuff because of several stupid mass shootings or the publicity of those threatening to shut down the supply of ammo and firearms. I think that there will always be those that say "It is just good business" to take advantage of bad situations, and they will be successful because people panic and try to buy up every brick of .22 long rifle, and any other piece of ammo they will never need, with thoughts that they can get the jump on regular folks and then soak them when the supply gets slim. Not to mention government manipulating supplies and availability of any item or source of supplies, just to advance their own agendas. It is a bad thing for those that enjoy the shooting sports as a hobby and also those that try to make a honest living provideing services . It isn't any different with other business. In West Texas apartment owners, Motels and realtors did the same thing with rent and housing prices when the new tech directional drilling, new drilling bits, MWD, new fracing techs and high oil prices made drilling super profitable. My daughter her husband and their two kids were forced to move out of Midland because rent for a 3 bedtoom apartment went from $600 to $3000 in six months. Greed is always ready to raise it's dirty head. BTW This is what I needed to know, Big fan of the Geissele SSA triggers, and the SSA-E is even better. Thanks for that answer and also thanks for telling me how you all feel about CTD. I certainly don't have any reason to argue with your information.
  14. I placed an order to CTD for the above described trigger for $210 plus texas sales tax at 10:40 AM on 02/19/15. Any one want to predict when or if it arrives? My guess is 02/26/15.
  15. Okay and I apologize for misspelling RECKON ! There must be some horrible horror stories around about Cheeper Than Dirt. ...... Now anything about Ammo man.com? I tend to go against the grain sometimes, and I have the scars to prove it, so I will order the trigger for $210 with free shipping and let you hear how it went. STAND CLEAR FIRE IN THE HOLE! (what could go wrong?)
  16. Sorry folks I didn't mean to ask for a diatribe on one of your fav vendors. I just asked about the damn trigger! I reckon you won't be ordering from them for their LOW price, is that right?
  17. CTD has been ok to me, they have a store not far away in Round Rock. Mostly buy ammo and some small sruff. Prices are better than other places for me, I try to buy locally around Stephenville or Brownwood.
  18. I know I have been partial to Timney triggers, however most of them were on bolt rifles, mausers and Springfield and a Remington 700. I saw this one on CTD and wonder if it has any fans here for the LR308 it is at a good price: Geissele Automatics AR-15/AR-10 Super Semi-Automatic (SSA) Trigger Two Stage 4.5 LBS Non-Adjustable Steel Black 05-101
  19. Speaking of sight alignment, do any of you use an in chamber lazer to boresight your sights? Optical boresighters usually aren't tall enough to reach sights on an AR platform rifle.
  20. Okay, .... oh well, never mind.
  21. Trimming brass if you are reloading brass shot in the firearm you are reloading for measure the cleaned and inspected, resized cases and they may not need to be trimmed. Lyman, RCBS AND Lee make easy to use case trimmers. Right now you need to do a lot of reading and studying before doing serious reloading. Reloading can be good but using the wrong powder or the wrong amount of powder can be dangerous. My teenage son destroyed a Colt gold cup barrel because he fired a reload with no powder that lodged a 220 grain F.M.J. bullet half way in the barrel in rapid fire then fired a good round. The 1911 locked up with the slide all the way back and the barrel was swelled but not ruptured. He was lucky not to have a mangled hand. The Colt govt. Model is one tough pistol. Glad it wasn't a S & W wheel gun.
  22. I was about six when we moved to an oil lease out in the boonies. I would "borrow" some of my mom's kitchen matches drop one down the muzzle of my old Red Ryder bb gun and shoot the side of the house and the side of the trash barrel they made good incindary bullets.my dad caught me before I burned the house down.
  23. Sounds great
  24. It is one of a parent's most pleasurable job to teach their boys and girls the skills of shooting. It is also a pleasant experience teachings a group of kids marksmanship and that guns are tools and shooting and hunting can be a safe enjoyable skill sport. Six years is a good age for starting very basic perceptions of launching projectiles with something besides throwing once the child understands how to throw a ball and playcatch then start on nerf guns and airsoft. Moving on to starting the idea of using open iron and peep sights with bb gun. We grouped 6, 7, and 8 year olds together with a n adult coach for each shooter The coach was a member of the NRA junior rifle team. High school juniors seniors and also adult NRA club members coach the bb gun shooters. Coaches loaded the round. coached the shooters and made sure the young shooters followed safety rules, and give praise for following directions. Parents aren't always best coaching their own kids. My kids did better with other coaches.
  25. I will go with the Timney single with the curved trigger. I don't like a two stage trigger on a field grade piece. They are Okay on competition pieces IMHO. I reckon the fail to fire could be a case of a small rifle primer vs. a large rifle primer. However it does seem a bit strange. I won't ever use a trigger less than 4 pounds pull on a rifle I drag around on a four wheeler or maybe drop onto it's butt. I use a safety sometimes, and sometimes not. I may be lucky I have been shooting ever since I was 7 and in 71 years have never shot anyone I didn't want shot, not even my own foot.
