  1. Thanks shibiwan. I'll check out that Alpen at Amazon. We had regular pit crews and spotters and markers. That is no more most places. and I really liked my Bushnell Sentry. Tripod sucked. I been thinking about rigging up a small video camera and sending wireless video back to my laptop for the long range shooting. Probably has been done before. anyone done that?
  2. Laz-old boy!...Some folks never learn, they just keep on....Shitting in their mess kit! EH! Yes 98, I have some experience in That problem, takes lots of Brillo pads and bleach to bring out that old USMC shine.
  3. Since I found a shooting range club with new long shooting ranges out to 1000 yds I am thinking about replacing my old Bushnell 20-60 power scope that was ripped off. I have been using some 10x50 binoculars. I found two spotting scopes I haven't heard of. First one is a Barska 25-75X75mm with tripod for $81 Amazon prime (shipping included) Second one is a Bonus Konusspot 20-60X80mm from Optics Planet $217 plus shipping. Amazon has this Konusspot for$218 shipping included (prime) Anyone here have experiences or preference for either of these scopes or think another brandwould be a better deal for the money? Thanks,
  4. That 10 shots at 1000Yds at a gallon milk jug seems a good challenge for some of us old cannon cockers to do some bracket shooting. I'm going to the range next month to check out some long range ammo. I have some Lake city 1962 National match 3006 168 gn. I have been saving for some reason. I have the loading data that is supposed to be original it is loaded with 4895. I will shoot 20 rounds in my 03A3 Springfield and check the MV. Then use the brass to reload. I have some fresh (how fresh it is I don't know) box is marked 2006. The old shooting data book shows that my best 600 Yd. load is 49 grains and 168 Hornady BTHP bullets. The best I remember it is a fairly mild but very accurate load out to 600 Yards It has been 30 years since I shot !000 Yards. with my 700 Remington 3006, which I traded for a couple of 1911 45ACP pistols. I have never shot a .308 over 500 Yards, I'll take the DPMS with some Black Hills 168 grain if the range store has any. I am going to check out the Tac Pro Shooting Center range up at Mingus, Texas. They have reopened their long distance range. (500, 700 and 1000 yards). I'm gonna have to buy another spotting scope. My old Bushnell 20-60 power job disappeared on our last move. What would be a good modern one for around $300?
  5. OOOOh shoot, these damn allergies are bad this time of the year in Texas....... But I've never seen them that bad on the fist! I bet you are still grilling and smoking, anyway
  6. Thought you would never ask! Ham and canadian bacon are both from a hog, but ham is from the upper hind leg and canadian bacon is from the rib loin of the hog. I like ham and bacon bacon best.
  7. I really didn't consider ordering out a pile of parts already engineered and ready to be put together as "building" a rifle. But if that is what you want to call it okay have fun. For your "I wanna build my own AR rifle itch." It may be a good idea to buy a factory finished rifle off the shelf, mount up some optics read the manual and shoot it to see if you like it for your first rifle. Now, take it home and decide what you would like to change. take the rifle apart paying attention to how it fits together keeping the parts that work, buy the new trigger BCG buffer barrel etc. Put each on the rifle one part at a time go shoot for effect, if it works and looks good maybe you are ready to build from a pile of choice parts. See if that isn't real fun. I lost money as a licensed gunsmith from 1970 thru 1975 then kind of figured it out. I was having Fun! Started making money because I starting doing good work. My #1 day job as an Engineer took control and the ATF under Clinton. caused me to turn in my FFL. I still have the itch. This is a good place to learn and get that itch scratched,
  8. I've followed this topic from start to finish and haven't seen any info on a range north of Mingus Texas (65 miles west of Fort Worth) Tactical Pro Shooting Center. Saw their web page. Facilities include a 1000 M range. Anyone been there or shot there? I sent an email, haven't received a reply yet. It is about 45 miles from home.
  9. hit your anvil hard and fast with your ball pein hammer, the hammer bounces, now slowly touch the anvil with the hammer, no bounce, or hit the anvil with a dead blow hammer, no bounce. slowing down the cyclic closing rate of the BCG and/or using a deadblow buffer BCG decrease the bolt bounce factor. Most gunsmiths believe that bolt bounce has always been happening, mostly due to the inherit delay of the bolt closing rotation, but not a harmful factor with the AR pattern rifles, but wasn't noticed until ultra slo-motion photography showed that it is a fact but not something they worried about. (Delayed bolt closing is not a factor in blowback semi- and full automatic weapons) My thought is that the stripping of the unfired cartridge from the magazine and the friction of it being chambered requires enough energy to degrade the closing cyclic velocity. There is a thin balance of energy required to complete the closing and rotation of the bolt, and slowing the closing rate to prevent bolt bounce factor. Get the closing cycle positively completed and don't worry too much about bolt bounce until you start seeing un-natural wear on the bolt face and chamber. Likewise to be sure the fired cartridge is completely extracted and ejected, is more important than any cosmetic damage to that fired cartridge case, unless of course the ejected case is hitting you in the face with excess energy, then start thinking about the need for a cartridge case deflector. 10. If God was going to give the world an enama he would stick the hose in really close to where the "mailman" landed his auto-gyro.
  11. I believe any of us would be better off carrying a concealed handgun we are comfortably familiar with it loaded, cocked and locked and aware of the happenings, than unarmed and unaware.
  12. A lot of people don't like Hillary, even ultra left wingers.
  13. AMEN!!!!
  14. Check out the rental option on this Phantom Flex 2K High-Speed Camera up to 2000 FPS. They work good to capture the cycling of firearms and other fairly high speed mechanical processes. URL: https://www.abelcine.com/store/Phantom-Flex2K-High-Speed-Camera/ Then you can do a RULE 1 for all of us....include the Slo-mo video!
  15. Great way to make your point survialshop. We had a good learning session. Thanks
  16. I doubt any low-life plain old ordinary thief would associate that sign with a US Navy SEAL. Not now a days at least. Anyone that steals someones sign needs their asses whooped, anyway. And it don't necessarily have to be a Navy Seal doing the whoopin' SEMPER FI!
  17. It is a good idea to have a life insurance policy, they don't have to be probated and come in handy for your main heir to take care of final expense s and to retain a lawyer to probate a will. My wife is having to probate her single brother's will in Colorado and is his beneficiary to his life insurance and she used it to pay funeral expenses, probate the will, sell his house and two cars and has already spent over $12,000, and isn't finished yet. Nothing else except the life insurance, goes to her until the probate is completed.
  18. Yes it is a mess even with a good up to date will. It is a mega-mess without a Will. You are at the risk of having the state decide what happens.
  19. Sounds simple even to me. (1) remove upper from lower. (2) find and depress buffer detent button pin thingiee .....it is spring loaded! (3) dodge stuff flying thru the air! find flying stuff. (4) drop several quarter dollar coins down into where the stuff flew out of, how many quarters to be determined later, right? (5) stuff flying stuff on top of the coins, spring first, then the buffer thing little end first. (6) you gotta hold down the buffer detent button thingie and get the buffer thingie behind the buffer detent button holding against that spring pressure and let the pressure off the buffer detent pin while holding the buffer behind the buffer detent pin thingiee. Okay is that how I do that? Later I can see if the mod worked? Something about if the bcg will go back far enough so that the bolt holder open thingiee holds the bolt open? You all hang with me and maybe I'll get this thang figured out, thanks
  20. I at a short time in my career was a HR manager and used pee-pee and blood testing for drug tests. WOW!....... using hair to test for drug use must check way back for months. Maybe You should quit taking those Iron and Titanium supplement pills for awhile. ::)
  21. I'm for the idea.I have been involved in raffles where our 4H rifle club raffled off a 870 shotgun to raise money to buy 22 target rifles for the kids. One of our parents was a judge and a lawyer. She did all the paper work and we had no problems. The kids did all the ticket selling.. The senior NRA rifle club donated the 870 shotgun. How about setting up so we could donate with a debit or credit card?
  22. Could this be considered a lottery? and be illegal?
  23. Yes it should be a good breaking & entering repellant! The slide of a 1911 45 slamming into battery also has a unique sound! I heard it thru the back door of our house, when I came in from work at 2:AM after there was a woman raped a few blocks away. I Remembered to "Drop and roll!" and Yell "don't shoot it is ME!"
  24. BWolf, good luck finding your own land for a range. I found 22 acres here but they want a bunch of bat hides for scrub land.
  25. I would trade a new factory unfired LR 308 for a good unabused walnut stocked M1a about any day.
