  1. You weren't by chance using a #47 drill bit to measure the gas port were you? A #47 drill bit measures 0.785 inches. My DPMS LR308 16 " barrel measures .076 inches = to a #48 drill bit.
  2. OoKay....haven't been to the range.
  3. Starry Shooting Range.doc BYW the picture isn't aligned with North at the top. This is correct orientation:
  4. I found a speedometer shop in Oklahoma that I sent the 2005 Tahoe instrument panel to. He did all the steppers and a LEDs for $100 return shipping included. Replacing the steppers isn't difficult for a electronic tech (soldering required) but the steppers have to be calibrated. eBay has several shops and if you use PayPal. IT worked for me I checked reviews and looked the address up on Google Earth and made the call, He was the closest shop to home It worked 100% and was good when it was traded off in March 2015. Local Chevy dealer wanted $600 for a replacment.
  5. Ordered another Alien Gear cloak and tuck holster for my new Witness .40 Compact pistol. They are now running two to three weeks until shipping.
  6. Right or just use a 14" chopsaw. "I cut it off twice and it is still too short." Hacksaw is an old Oklahoma Oilfield tribe.
  7. How about the tool my Native American tribe name is in english. It is........HACKSAW
  8. Very good information here. I was at a vendor website the other day and noticed the Mil primers back when I was reloading for M1 just reamed the Lake City ball and national match brass and primed with CCI, REMINGTON large rifle primers. Tell me about the difference, please.
  9. You are lucky it isn't a mesquite limb. I get a kick out of seeing the young bucks (40-60) walking thru the waiting room, after the"exam" walking kind of sideways with tears in their eyes. Heck it is about the only stimulation us old codgers ever feel now a days....Cheer up Bros your time is a coming!
  10. Didn't I miss seeing "He-who-knows-everything AR10ish"in the credits as Technical Advisor?-----EH?
  11. I ordered a spare 12 round magazine for my EAA Witness compact .40 S&W and a Magula pistol magazine loader today from MidwayUSA. I really need a magazine loader as I have 5 autoloading pistols and around 25 magazines. My old busted up thumbs take a beating and often I can't get a full mag loaded. Man-o-man that EAA witness 12 rounder has a super strong spring. So is the recoil spring on the pistol. Maybe after 3 or 4 hundred rounds it will become easier to charge and chamber. well I remember the little .380 so I have 6 pistols. .22 LR, .32 Auto, .380, 9mm,, .40 S&W and my old standby 1911 70 series .45 ACP. Dang I think I need a .22 WRM. maybe a Ruger
  12. Thanks Doc, that is the same UPC number as the other one.
  13. Thanks MikedaddyH I found out that there are two different frame sizes for the EAA Witness the older model has a small frame and a smaller magazine. The newer one uses the 101400 magazine (12 round) which my pistol uses. Outdoor sells this magazine for $24.78. Thanks, Mrmackc
  14. Pictures please or how far off are the pinning holes on the fsb/gb? Inches? Millimeter?
  15. Didn't spend a lot of time in the ?X, spent most of my time in the SlopChute!
  16. GRA,I also have been thinking of getting back into reloading. I did a lot of reloading back in the early 1970s. To show how long it's been my press, scales, and measure was HERTERS. I think that I will go with the Lee setup several places have a set for around $115 to $120. I have AMAZON Prime and the shipping for 2 day is free and they show that they have them in stock. I have Lee shotshell loaders in 12 and 20 gauge and there ain't no flies on either one.
  17. I have a Qt. of Hoppes #9 coming from Amazon UPS tomorrow, and I pickup the new Witness.40 S&W and 100 rounds of Hornady hollow point from Johnson Gun works in Brownwood.

After seeing an ONTOS fire a salvo of just 2 rounds of 106 many of us thought the safest place to be was NOT in the rear of that thang. BY the way, the picture I posted is not of a real live M-50 ONTOS but of a model kit :Academy M50 Ontos Tank Destroyer Model Kit 1:35 I used it because it is the most detailed picture of an ONTOS the last production model in my gallery. This model shows every option that was available. By the time our young Lance Cpls. had them setup to suit them and the crew they looked like a more stripped down versions. This is an actual picture of an ONTOS and its crew at Chu Lai Beach in June 1st of 1965. The first time the ONTOS was used in combat was 1958 in Lebanon, It was de-activated by the USMC in 1969 I'm sorry I jacked your thread OKLAHOMA but the 106 recoilless rifle and the M-50 ONTOS will always have a huge place in my old heart. But the young Marines that crewed the ONTOS and the difficult job they did under impossible conditions of combat in Vietnam have the most love and respect I can muster. I still tear up thinking about them....

The original ONTOS was powered with a 270 ci GMC engine and a small Allison automatic transmission. I was involved in the upgrade to a Chrysler 318 V/8 and an Allison lockup torque converter. The factory sent out a tech to supervise us in the field upgrade. After we removed the little GMC straight six and we were ready to insert the V/8 I asked the tech if he had a shoehorn in his tool kit. Our CO set us a quota of one up grade per day the first one took 3 or4 days. Loaded down with six 106mms two.50 spotter rifles, and a Ma duece and ammo a 3 man crews and gear it's performance was pretty mild.

After my active duty time in the USMC I joined a USMC reserve unit in Amarillo Texas as a Track Vehicle mechanic mos, which I was trained for at 29 Palms and Pendleton. For a short time the reserve unit at Amarillo was an ONTOS unit. The ONTOS was a bastard track vehile designed as an ambush anti-tank unit. The ontos had 6 106 MM recoilless rifles mounted in a sort of turrent (very limited movement) three on each side of the vehicle. We had a pair of semi-automatic .50 Cal rifles coupled to the 106s. the trajectory of the .50 cals were matched to the 106 and were boresighted and sighted in to the 106s point of aim. The .50 semi -autos had 10 round magazines like the Bar and M14 rifles. the rounds had W.P. spotting bullets and with the gunners optic sight you could see a white smoke where the round hit. We would shoot a W.P.. 50 round see the smoke spot and adjust the 106 to where the target actuall was and then fire the 106 single or multi rounds. The 106 was a hoot to shoot! just some of the bad things was that the ONTUS was slower than a tank, poorly armored, the loader had to get out the back hatch and load the recoiless rifles and the spotting rifles and the ONTOS tended to roll out of control going down a mountain. The Amarillo unit changed to a tank unit , their ONTOS vehicles went to Vietnam with the 1st Marine Division and most of them were used to support ground troops.
  23. There is a club with a rifle and pistol range down by Longview , I think it is East Texas rifle club or maybe East Texas shooting club. Google East Texas shooting ranges.
  24. If you have any doubts about any factor that effects "lock time" (old definition) having to do with accuracy, please talk to Mr. Geissle or David Tubb both of these men have practical experience, and I consider them experts. I certainly am no expert, I just have read a lot and learned from my mistakes. David's dad Geroge Tubb was a good friend and shooting mentor to me when I was really into NRA competition shooting, of which I wasn't ever very good at.
  25. yes we have been praying for rain for over a year, the Lord works on His own timeline and it looks like we have more rain comeing. By the way Welcome Mike from Comanche County Texas.
