Me too! Thats why I thought of it. I have a PVC frame I built as an archery target holder and have a 1X4 frame made to hold rifle targets for it. All I have to do is measure out 25 yards beyond the 50 yard target and done.

I got out to the range yesterday with my son and the 375. Loaded up 6 magazines to get the new Nikon scope sighted in and to see how the production handloads compared to the test loads I had shot previously. I put the first target up at 25 yards. I figured at that range even without knowing where in the world the first shot would go I could at least have it on paper. It turns out it was a good decision. First shot 2" up from the bottom of the target. Dial the scope up a sh*tload of clicks and fire #2. Up some more and right for #3. Then peg #4. I put the next target up at 50 yards and touched off the first shot. High again! Dial back down and shoot 2 -5. Now I'm happy. This is going to be a woods gun for deer and these are the only bullets that are going to be going through it. A 50 yard shot would more than likely be pushing it for distance. After feeling pretty good about the 50 yard group I had to put one out at 100 yards just for research purposes and $hits and giggles. Fired 11 shots (all a 30 round GI mag holds) and all of them high again and much more spread out. My son took a turn at 100 yards and pretty much repeated what I did, maybe a little better. Now for the question. Given the hunting distances I expect to encounter while using this rifle should I sight it in at 75 yards? The other option is to sight it for 100 yards and use the multiple circle BDC reticle of the scope for 50 yards. It just seems weird to have to hold higher for shorter range shots. On a totally different note, this rifle has its own giggle factor but at the other end of the spectrum from my suppressed Blackout. That one with subs has practically no recoil and the quiet brings a smile. This thing brings more of a holy $hit!! kind of smile when you touch one off and you let everyone in a mile or more radius know you fired a round. For an observer the muzzle blast from the brake is most impressive! Then you see a 3/8"+ diameter hole in the target. More perspective...Hornady's 9th edition puts a 208 grain A-Max out of a .308 at up to 2450fps out of a 22" barrel. This 375 Socom is pushing a 200 grain stubby flat point at 2435fps out of an 18" barrel.

I can vouch for the Phase 5 extended bolt catch working with an Aero 308 lower. Had one on mine. Same function as a Magpul BAD lever except its all one piece. If you like the concept it definitely works.

Your welcome @Sisco! As long as I'm here I'll add that I loaded up 194 pieces (all I had that came with the rifle) of the 375 Socom. 46.4 grains of AR Comp under the 200 gr Sierra flat point. Time to see what they do at more than 50 yards.

As far as I know the hammer goes back fully each time. With the pistol empty and the hammer hung up with the trigger pulled I can flick the hammer to the rear and release it and it will then go forward and hit the firing pin.

I have no idea. I've done the basic disassembly for cleaning and polishing the feed ramps but I haven't been inside to any of the moving parts of the fire control. That is not to say that I wouldn't be against any exploratory to see what might be going on. I just don't like the idea of taking something apart and not knowing how it all goes back together again.

I've got a PT1911 that has developed an intermittent firing issue. It will go through several mags flawlessly then suddenly in mid mag when you try to pull the trigger it doesn't move and the hammer doesn't fall. Thumb safety is off, grip is tight on grip safety, and hammer seems to be fully back. Drop the mag, rack the slide to empty the gun then attempt to pull the trigger and same thing. By accident I found that pulling the trigger then flicking the hammer backwards and releasing it will usually clear the blockage. I have yet to have it happen while dry firing the empty gun and hand racking the slide while dry firing. Do any of you 1911 gurus have any idea what may be going on?

Wait until you get to the episode with the blood eagle. All I'm saying.

260 is on Tom's list. 243ai is unheard of around here. A 375 socom that didn't come out of my rifle would be this side of a miracle and would find a new home at my house.

Awwwww. But you know you love the secure feeling of not having to wonder if you have enough brass for your next project. And I like knowing that when I pick up something that is spoken for its already sold when it hits the bottom of the bucket. A win-win situation I would say. Last year after everyone had what they wanted at the end of the year I sent Montana guy an email about what I had left and his reply was "yep, send me all of it". Nice to carry no inventory into winter.

Here is some perspective on that 5 shot group that was 46.4 grains of AR-Comp. That copper dot at the top of the target square is the flat bottom of one of the 200 grain bullets used. The bullet itself is sitting on its nose in the middle of the holes made by 4 of the 5 shots. The 5th hole is to its right. Nextdoor is the target without the bullet.

I've got one word for you if they are legal to use where you are in Cali. Crossbow! Much less of a learning curve than a vertical bow for someone who hasn't used one and they aim with a scope similar to a rifle. Killing range is truly about the same as a bow, although people will try to bullchit you and say its much longer. Those are the folks that are willing to lob an arrow at a deer at 50 yards.

Yep that would be a great way to go but it isn't in his budget. Two little kids and a third on the way. He'll be wheeling and dealing selling stuff to finance the rifle.

A good friend is looking to get an AR in the near future and wants to go with getting the lower first then getting the upper as the funds allow. Being that he wants to hunt with it too I told him about my Grendels and he likes the idea. What companies use decent but not outrageously priced barrels in their complete uppers. Anything with a BCA barrel is not even considered.

Ok this is a 300 BLK bullet, not a 375 Socom, but its a Maker. Shows some real world results that those relief cuts create. 200 gr subsonic running 970-980fps at the chrono about 8ft from the muzzle. Hit the deer between the brisket and right shoulder. Messed up heart and maybe a lung and lodged in the stomach. Deer went 40 yards and piled up. One thing I have seen with all three deer I've taken with this bullet is no bloodtrail. This shot was head on into the chest and the other two were broadside in and outs. HUGE exit wounds but no blood found anywhere but under the deer once it flopped. Two of them were with full snow cover on the ground. You aren't tracking a deer after a sub hit. Your looking for a dead deer. My shots from now on are going into the neck.

My guess is it went to Elk Grove twice after someone found that someone Fuuked up.

My magic source is only two shooting ranges up here in the woods. The secret ingredient is that the area has been a vacation spot for Illinois folks from the time of Al Capone or even earlier. They have their rifles and pistols down there but do you think they have free to use 100-300 yard ranges to shoot them? Hell no, not in that state! So when they come up here for a week or two they bring everything along and go blasting for a couple days. I pick up the leftovers. Then come fall the locals start thinking about hunting either around here or out west and getting things sighted in.
