  8. A1 Skyraider? That was my squadron. In 1968, VA-25 was the birds sent out on attack runs. But it turned out, the first MIG-21 shot down was by one of our old piston-engined birds. The pilot was just rolling along when a heat-seeking missile flew past him. He looked in the mirror (yes, the old A1 had mirrors), saw the MIG, cut his throttle, threw out the speed brake and went to full flaps, opened his canopy and stuck out an arm and a leg, and produced skidmarks in the sky. He watched the MIG do the same thing. Well, the MIG couldn't go as slow. The MIG flew past our Skyraider, whereupon the pilot closed the speed brake and the flaps, firewalled the engine. and blew him out of the sky. The A1 ended up being the RESCAP aircraft. No jets seemed able to touch them, but everyone they shot at ended up in the drink.
  9. Yes!
  10. yeah, but when you get a bit older you get to sleep in a bit later. Ask me how I know.
  11. Welcome from Arkansas. Lots of good info here.
  12. Watch out. These people really know what they're talking about when it comes to your rifle. 😀
  13. I like that! Now we're talking about my way of thinking!

  16. @98Z5V, you may be exactly right. I hope not, but if that's the way it is I'm really sorry to see it.

  18. @98Z5V, you're absolutely right. If an officer has no warning that someone with a knife is coming from 7 yards away, that officer really has no choice but to use lethal force to protect himself. However, the video above shows an officer with a holstered sidearm. That's not the situation we see here. The officer in the original video has her weapon drawn and ready. I get it, guys. Nobody wants to see some crazy fukker come at anyone in blue (or any other type of uniform) and see the officer go down. I don't either! But there's still a question of "did you HAVE to shoot then?" And I think that on this one, she might have waited another second or two before pulling the trigger. Was I there? NO. Were you there? NO. Does that make either of us right? NO! But it should open the possibility for dialogue.

Lots of mim parts. Recessed chambers in the cylinder. Decent factory trigger pull. Hard for my old eyes to see the sights but I was ringing steel on a 8" plate at 10 yds. $199.00 plus tax. ^^^ Finally, someone whose eyesight matches mine! Of course, I may need a bit more help when it comes to anything over 40 yards!
  20. Well, the video shows there was a pickup truck/suv plus a camper plus another suv between her and the perp. Each one of those is about 18 feet long, so that's around 54 feet between them, at least. Then the perp takes (as near as I can count) 8 steps toward the officers. He wasn't running, he was simply stepping. But when he made that last step (still around 7 yards away) she fired. I still believe there was room to say "Not my job to end you today."" And i'm well aware that this is a tactical decision, one based on your street experience, as opposed to some pie-in-the-sky formula someone who's never done the job may come up with. And I still end up with the position that she fired too soon. Although I can see where someone else could argue the point.
  21. All I said was the distance was too great for her to NEED to shoot. She may have needed to if he had come significantly closer. There are other less lethal options they should have tried first. She wasn't alone, she had a partner. @98Z5V, I haven't been in a military personal combat situation, but I did spend years on the street carrying a badge. Policing isn't the same thing as combat. I've had more than one occasion where it was necessary to draw my sidearm but I never had to pull the trigger, which I'm profoundly thankful for. @DNP, I'm not saying the guy with the knife was going to end up any other way than dead. I absolutely agree with you. My only issue was the timing. They didn't HAVE to pull the trigger that quickly.
  22. Those are good pistols. A friend had one, never a glitch. If 9mm is a good round for you, this is a good choice.
  23. Sorry. Bullshiit. The perp may have had a knife, but he wasn't remotely close enough to warrant a bullet. If you've been on the street, you know what i mean.
  24. Yeah, but I don't think I'd have allowed that airhead (the teller) to keep my money in there. I'd have had it transferred to another bank. (If the old lady has that much in the bank, it's not likely the only bank she does business with!)
