Got it to the range, damn thing works! Cycled and LRBHO on everything from 40 gr to 62 gr. Shot without using the brace, off hand, about a paper plate sized group at 50 yards. (didn't want to start with my face anywhere near the goofy thing) When the trust level went up, used the brace and put my face a little closer to the charging handle the group tightened up quite a bit. The bolt headspace was tight in the Anderson barrel, still in spec but on the tight side, enough that a couple of my handloads were sticky when manually extracting with the charging handle. Probably swap the bolt with the one out of the old BCG. EDIT: Nope, both bolts headspace the same, just a couple of fat handloads.

5D Tactical - simple way to slightly reduce OD of takedown pin ?
Albroswift replied to Tack14's topic in 80% Lowers
I have used the 5D with AMT, Anderson, Noreen, and several other large and small frame lowers, haven't experienced the pin problem but it IS a really tight fit, tap with rubber mallet tight on a couple. That said, hate it when a vendor does that, ghosts their customer service obligations. Total BS. Might as well buy the knock off. PS Seller on ebay has the cutters. -
Commando build carry handle and front sight
Albroswift replied to Albroswift's topic in Member Builds
Yep, thanks. Found one at Bravo for cheap. Picture above is for the M203 mod, one I got doesn't have the 2 notches. Assume the large and small frame hand guards are same size? -

So what do you call a delta ring that's round? Need to find one. Other then that the 6" guard fits the 12.5 Sig barrel just about right. (Well, there is the port issue but I have some ideas about that). Colt: Armalite no bueno -
Just an egg compared to the masters. Having fun learning though, and getting a lot of help from the boys over at 1911 forums.

Not at the same level as some of the above pieces, but, finished up another budget build, commander length. Parkerized this morning, assembled this afternoon. Little brother for the A1

Commando build carry handle and front sight
Albroswift replied to Albroswift's topic in Member Builds
@Tack14 Good stuff... I think I have aligning it figured out, rotary indexer and the mill I should get some good accuracy using the axis of the bore and the alignment pin. Can always adjust a little bit after initial setup, most of these blocks look like clamp on. -

For the big front sight, don't want rail height. Need one lower then receiver rail so yours might be right. My math says .940 from center of bore, so top of .750" journal .565 +/- .930 is pretty common it looks like. -

From RRA: Their railed front sight gas block for their front sight: From the center bore to the rail will be .975” Same Rail Height gas block: Same plane is center bore to the top of rail 1.215” I measured 2 of my uppers and the rail planes out about 1.250 +/- from center of bore so if tech support is correct the RRA 308 upper is .035 lower then a low profile DPMS. To use the LAR-8 carry handle and front sight I would need a .940 +/- off the center of bore gas block. RRA DETACHABLE FRONT SIGHT ITEM #: AR0160 FOR LOW GAS BLOCK HEIGHT RAIL MOUNTING. 6061 ALUMINUM. RRA LAR-8 A2 CARRY HANDLE ASSEMBLY ITEM #: 308A0052CASY WITH A2 REAR SIGHT. -

Think I'm going to get the LAR-8 carry handle. They mention their front sight is for a low railed block, digging into that a little further. -

This RRA is for their LAR-8 https://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=1514 Another forum mentioned needing a diviot in the upper directly under the sight adjustment stud. -

Cert-tactical contact form and email come back undeliverable. Too good to be true. Luckily their checkout doesn't work. -

Something is fishy, they have ammo for pre apocalypse pricing and half of their pages have instructions for the web builder on them. Sent them contact form. @98Z5V Top rail is the same height as an Armalite 308 receiver. Is Armalite top rail same as DPMS low? -

If the new gas block doesn't shove up tight against it I can turn a spacer. Gas block in photo doesn't have any thing to do with the build. Probably have to drill a new port or reverse a gas block for everything to fit up. -
Rounding up parts for next build, want to mount a carry handle on the "low profile" flat top, and front sight on a picatinny gas block. Cutting the shoulder back on my last sig 12.5" barrel to work with a 6" Armalite handguard and the delta ring set @shooterrex donated. Kind of an XM177E2 look in .308. After spending hour or three on google, more questions then answers. #1; How do I get the heights of the sights correct? #2 How to match up a gas block, front sight with a picatinny carry handle? #3 Who makes a 308 low profile height picatinny gas block? Really like one that's adjustable, but I can deal with that either way. Or a shorter rail/ taller sight? Holy moly... Other option would be the fixed front sight, got plenty of journal length. I plan on moving the port anyway. Still have to match the height.

About right, 20+++ years ago I bought 4/ 8 lb jugs of Data2200 for about 10 or 15 bucks a piece. Thought it was a lifetime supply at the time. Works great for 22 hornet, .223, 458S, now down to a jug and a half or so. Champion (excellent real man on the phone tech support) says it's still good as long as it's been stored properly, and direct sub for AA/AAC#2200. In the SOCOM I run it upper end of the scale or it leaves the little briquettes in the chamber. I've used it in 308 also with lighter bullets, excellent SD's but not as much velocity as other 308 powders.

Pistol Brace Update, from 7 Jun 21
Albroswift replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
Does the flash can count as a non operational accessory? Just measured the 7.5 barreled AR15 pistol. 28" with 3" flash can and the brace extended fully. (I know, rhetorical question, right?) -

Plus 1 on the cutaway case gauge and Tromix. Their products are clearly the result of sharp quality tooling. I tried 400gr, 405gr lead and jacketed, 350 gr jacketed, and the Barns TTSX 300 gr. The Barns won out hands down. (Unless you are trying to go sub sonic suppressed, then the heavier the better I would think) The Lil gun and Data2200 (AA#2200, AAC#2200) powder worked better then the RL7 in a 14-1/2" barrel, although I gave up pretty quick on the RL7. I preferred the Hornady sizing die over the Redding, I have and used both. Like the Hornady expander ball better. Need 4 tungsten weights and 4 to 4-1/4" in length if you want 10 oz. Found one more supplier in the $50 range that fits the bill but forgot who now. I'll run across them again and post in the buffers thread. To buy tungsten weights it's almost $10.00 ea after shipping so if you can get a 4 weight buffer for $50 yur golden. I'm going to run my special 5 weight in the 10mm, but that project is in the "receiver only in a box on the shelf" phase right now. Brother is working on the 45, got upper, lower, LPK, BCG looking for a 7"-8" barrel with 5/8x24 threads. DTT has one in stock with the 578x28 for cheap, holding off for now.
-
Yep. On their waiting list. Also, want 5/8 threads, want to bore out a 308 cookie cutter for the 45. Really irritate the guy shooting in the next lane. ... Stern has one in stock but .578x28.
