    10mm 1911

So started out this morning, working up a couple ladders for the 10mm. Brand new starline brass, noticed it has small pistol primers, and all the data is large pistol primers. Actually may be better, the factory loads were not too kind on the large primers, looking like I was getting a bit of flow. Loaded 2 ladders, one with AA#9, and one with VV3N37. The VV I have used in .40 and quite a bit in 9MM and 9MM Major, always had good burn so used Win small pistol primers. The AA#9 only place I've used it before was magnum loads, went with Federal small pistol mag primers. Hopefully run them across the chrono next weekend. Don't have a lot of other pistol powders on the shelf to try, some tightgroup and H110, probably off the fast/ slow ends of the spectrum.
  2. While you can make a 7 inch tube work, no way is there a combination out there that a 3.5 oz buffer will work in a 308. Edit we'll get some more specific help to you, but first place to start is 5.4 oz buffer and a ea1095 spring in a 7-11/16" tube.
  3. Spikes Tactical 14.5" 5.56 1:7 5/8" journal midlength gas .078 port diameter
  4. Just thinking out loud, If I were building a blowback 10mm, I would go with the AR 10 carbine tube, and turn a 4-3/4" buffer that would take up to 6 tungsten weights. My guess is you could get up to a little over 14 oz total buffer weight. Could also make some different "collars" / spring spacers to change the length of the head to tune the spring rate.
  5. You could use a 7-11/16 tube and the 4-1/8" Odin
  6. I think the sliding weights and pads were the last piece of the puzzle. The red spring is for longer buffers could be the spring rate of the longer spring helps as well. The orange spring doesn't get compressed with the longer buffers. It's a thought anyway. Really like the .40 for a PCC caliber but they seem to be a tricky bugger to get balanced.
  7. Back out with the 40 pcc. Replaced the 10oz solid buffer with the Odin, 4 tungsten weights, Sprinco red. 4-1/8" buffer came in at 11.36 oz Weights and pads fit tight, so sanded a little bit off the bumper to get a little bounceout of the weights. Put Wilson 33 round 9mm springs in the old 22 round .40 mags. Speed up the feed slowed down the bolt. Was running reliability but still getting the occasional double / triple burst, this cured it, no double taps and 100% feeding 155 gr XTPs in the 1500 fps range. Going to watch for a deal on a couple more Odins, do my pistol and the brother's while I'm on a roll.
  8. First thing I thought of.
  9. That's as good as it gets brother. Gotten down in the 3-4 range before but don't even get a 1 in a 1 shot string.
  10. Welcome to the forum Maybe can make up for the low mass carrier by bumping your buffer weight up. Pur Tungsten sells 1.5 oz weights in 3 packs if you are a do it yourselfer, and Heavy Buffers. com is a great resource also.
  11. The 223 runs nice through the 650, Data 2200 meters as well in the press' powder measure as the electronic measure and 10x faster. The R-P brass primes like butter, even with Wolf primers. Ran some civilian FC couple weeks ago reamed the pockets lightly, and after 15-20 rounds dumped them out of the case feeder and reamed them again hard.
  12. Processed 1500 rounds of once fired RP 223 over the last week or so... Last batch in the vibratory cleaning the lube off now. Ready for primers, powder and pills.
  13. Got the Commander SS together, ready for some testing. TR Enabling Slide Cylinder and Slide ignition Storm Lake bull barrel No Name 80% series 80 frame. Truglo night sights Wilson combat rest of internals
  14. Brother has a ar15 build going on, most components when available aren't that bad, but $144 for a Toolcraft bcg... Holy moly. Last 308 build got a NiB toolcraft for less then that. A while back they were going for 69 bucks, doubled in price. No 49 dollar sig barrels left (except on my top shelf!) so we went with a Spikes 14.5 lightweight 1:7 chrome and going to pin a faxon slim 3 port on it. Anderson stripped uppers still around 50 bucks, think i got a couple for 34 dollars a while back but 50 ain't that bad. Forgot how much fun/ quick/easy building ARs are after spending a year ++ building 3 1911s! We should have most of the parts next few days, think he is milling the receiver this weekend. Also got 1000 rounds of 62 gr bullets coming got the press set up and a bunch of RP brass ready to run through the sizer. I think someone is going to find out about the ammo shortage about 1 min after twisting on the optics!
  15. 338 Win Mag factory crimp die, extended .325 to use with the 340 Weatherby and a birdsmouth so the bullet tip clears when rotating through the progressive.
  16. Non canalure bullets like the ELD and Matchking (lots of others, just naming 2 I use quite a bit) scream "LEE FACTORY CRIMP!"
  17. The only way to fly. Pretty much replaced most if not all of my crimp dies with the Lee over the years.
  18. I think the OP was using the Faxxon as a comparison. You are allowed to have more then one barrel I think, in fact, may be required...
  19. Funny powder, looks like little cheerios, only can fit about 9 oz in a typical 1 lb container. Use it in 45-70 light loads. Going to try some in 308 w/ 200 gr bullets.
  20. Just knocked out 1000 rounds of 9mm on the big blue, little over 2 hrs. Spent 1/2 hr troubleshooting the indexing system first, getting worn out after a couple million rounds. Recess with the spring and detent ball was getting a little oversized, shimmed it true. Get a call into Dillon, bet they will send me a new head no questions asked. Even If I have to pay, still best press out there. Bought it new in 1996 +/- Rock Chuckers are a more recent addition.
  21. Moderators, please move to 80% lowers? Thanks-- Al
  22. Hello, Dave, and welcome to the forum. Stumped the boys so far it looks like. Interested to see what they come up with. Al
  23. Only if dippin Dave goes by Handy Dave on MCARBO Brotherhood.
  24. +1 on the orange spring in the 7 inch tube.
  25. 80%, didn't have the bolt stop pin drilled, and seems to have some unusual features .
