Brother came over this afternoon and finished up his zombie killer in 45 ACP. Not bad for the short bus crew... New Frontier Armory Slick side upper and lower, KVP BCG and barrel, Anderson LPK, 308 Cookie Cutter bored to 45 ACP, SBA brace, Sight Mark Laser and red dot. After I melted his last grip he lost faith in my cerakoting ability and left the last few parts black. I'm thinking the Cookie Cutter should irritate the fuk out of any fudds at the line. Like to put one on a 300 WBY or Ultra Mag just for fun.

What temperature hand guard can withstand for cerakote

Copy. I can do that. Thanks. -
What temperature hand guard can withstand for cerakote
Albroswift replied to Albroswift's topic in Building a .308AR
It's from Armalite, not a knock off. -
New Frontier Armory has 12.5" and 16" barrels in stock, just grabbed a 12.5" for a future build. Already have a lower and maybe an upper, if not plenty of regular uppers laying around. .

Commando build carry handle and front sight
Albroswift replied to Albroswift's topic in Member Builds
308 Commando. Bout got everything rounded up. RRA carry handle about 1/4" overhanging the charging handle but I probably have the technology to fix that if it bothers me. Noreen forged receivers Armalite AR10 recoil of course. 12.5" Sig barrel's shoulder exactly right place for 6" Armalite handguard, just need to drill port in the correct location, maybe plug the old one, maybe it will seal itself up without any messing around. Fake suppressor bored out for a sound forwarder. Pin that to the barrel. Nice lightweight handling forend Maybe getting ahead of myself, but thinking of going with cerakote in a desert camo color scheme -
I think about it differently, instead of trying to hit the correct port size right off, start with one big enough to be known to work, and then back off a little until tune is perfect. on my 12.5 I switched out my recoil system from a SB3, 7-11/16" tube, EA1095 spring, 3-1/2" buffer to a Tailhook Mod 2, 7" tube, Sprinco Orange spring, 2-3/4" buffer, and all it took was a couple of clicks and all sweet again. Never have a problem with AGB going out of adjustment, and if you initally adjust them from wide open back as @98Z5V recommends you don't burn very many rounds at all. For me it works.

20 year old EDC Kimber Ultra Carry gets some love. (Posted this on the other forum but might as well show it off here as well) Gloss Black Cerakote over parkerizing on the slide, Graphite Black Cerakote on the frame.

Once I have the gas and recoil tuned, mine shoot 150-180 gr without ever messing with the AGB. If your system was borderline, bullet weight could make a difference. I would think lighter bullets take slightly more gas, but I could be 180% off on that.

Go real slow and easy, lots of lube, wouldn't hurt to put a dowel in the bore. the slower you break through the cleaner the hole will be. Do you have a drill press?

Following along for fun. @thossoma@pm.me Don't be surprised or bummed when you purchase a 308 premium quality craftsman build crafted with high quality materials and backed by a lifetime warranty, and it don't run. Unfortunately it's common. Fortunately it's not that expensive or hard to fix. We'll get you running like a $hit through a goose but we need lots of information to digest.

5D Tactical - simple way to slightly reduce OD of takedown pin ?
Albroswift replied to Tack14's topic in 80% Lowers
Order that poop ahead of time. Just like our AR's, have some spare parts in the bin. 1 extra cutter, a few of those screws made out of the softest metal known to man, a set of the guide buttons/ bushings minimum. Brother borrowed mine and router got away from him a little, bounced around, and flattened the sides of the guide bushings. Same brother (Noticing a trend?) seems to be hard on the cutters, don't think he quite has the whole "ease into the cut" thing figured out. I always have a spare cutter set in a spare arbor, and another couple un-mounted cutters. +1 on the vac attachment. I haven't noticed the need for the cardboard, Wax sounds like a great Idea, I use tap magic for aluminum, been using it on the lathe and mill as well but will try some wax. Have the router and vacuum on a foot switch makes for a good setup. -
Gas tube off centerline AR 15 and AR308
Albroswift replied to Albroswift's topic in Building a .308AR
Thanks, @msgriff Exactly what I wanted. Kinda funny that some the most commonly built guns have no drawings online of the uppers. -
Hello, All Can't get out to the shop and check right now, anyone know off the top of their head what the difference from centerline is between 308 and 223 gas tube hole in receiver? Thanks-- Al

Not seeing them. Guess I should have mentioned AR308...
-
Thanks. Looked at Wolff, only 20rounders.

Are there 30 round springs anywhere? Friend bought a couple 30 round promags, trying to help him salvage a bad investment. Springs have zero spring, wont even push up with 5 or 6 rounds. I don't have any 30 rounders, didn't know they existed. ,

Well, gave the old boy a little more time, sent more emails, finally went on his face book page (I hate Facebook!) Got a hold of him, said he did not get any of the emails and facebook dumped a bunch of stuff on him just recently, wanted to know if the issue was resolved. (Not!) So back and fourth tried sending him emails from elkcamp, sixguns, google, finally he got the google emails when I sent from phone. If I was him I would wonder how many other emails I had missed. Anyway, making it good, not even waiting for the return barrel. The world is just moving on leaving us old timers behind.

So there's the "Why" Good explanation. Good numbers.
-
Looking at the specs they must be for small frame AR platform with AR-10 length carbine extension. Guess the question is why?
-
Yep, that's the plan Monday.

So ordered a 45 ACP AR barrel form Macon Armory few weeks ago. get tracking emails, maps where the barrel is along the route, right to the front door. Thinking this is the way it should be. Opened package, 9mm barrel. Have sent 3 emails over the last couple weeks, crickets. Called, phone does not pick up, does not go to voice, and not a normal ring tone. Noticed this morning they are out of the 5" barrels, but have 7.5" barrels, so someone/ something is there doing sales/ web related stuff. If it was purely a ripoff site why change the inventory? As much as I hate facebook even left a message there. Anyone live in Macon that could stop by and see if maybe the machines revolted and killed everyone inside?

Bore Scopes-Teslong, Depstech etc.
Albroswift replied to Lonewolf McQuade's topic in General Discussion
I've had one for a couple years, don't remember the brand, but one nice use is to look in the bore and check alignment of the gas port with the gas block. you can see right up in there nicely. Take it to the range. The one I have you focus the right angle mirror, or remove. Seems to have a pretty short focal plane. Light level adjusts. Some photos looking down my muzzle loader after a good soap and water bucket cleaning, and some milling looking at the takedown recess at a less then 0.001 step. They work pretty good for a close up camera. Flash hole milling -
Ok, got a 5" 45 barrel coming, and a 308 cookie cutter. This is going to be the most annoying gun at the range! Have to work up some slow burning high everything else 45 loads!

Got to the range yesterday, box of extra springs and spare parts in tow, but nothing needed. Shot flawlessly from round one and POI was POA. Nice group. 3:00-4:00 ejection @ 8-10'. Remsport SS barrel and match bushing, RIA slide good combination. Used TR Enabling/ Remsport for slides and other parts before but first time used their barrel/ bushing. Good stuff for reasonable $$$
