    Grilling

Never went down the pellet grill rabbit hole. But my experience with other Webers leads me to believe you'll enjoy your purchase for a long, long time.
  2. I've got an ancient Ithaca 37 Featherweight that used to be my Dad's. He bought it used when he was a boy on a lay away plan from the local hardware store. Took it to school with him on the bus (guns were left in the principal's office during the day) and would go rabbit and squirrel hunting with his buds afterwards. It was still his primary hunting gun when I was a boy. It's in rough shape at this point. My older brother fell with it and cracked the stock, which was then glued. There is also significant rust on the barrel having been kept in a humid lake cabin for decades. I have thought about refurbishing it. But never quite found the time or motivation. Ironically, my go to shotgun has long been a Mossberg 500 with dual interchangeable barrels.
  3. Thanks for the reading suggestion!
  4. I can't fully wrap my head around distances like you are describing. In my location, a shot of 200 yds is about as long as it gets. Which is just as well with my eyes 🤓
  5. I have 2 16" AR 308s w/16" barrels. Same 1:10 barrel twist rates. One is a Daniel Defense. The other is a Wyndham Weaponry (great manufacturer - but they're out of business now). Tried a lot of different ammos in each. I use both for hunting. The DD does best with heavier ammo. For that one, 178g Hornady ELD-x is the best ammo. The WW does best with 150g ammo. Usually just feed it plain old Federal Power Shok. Both are sub 1 MOA with ammo they like. But my primary point is to try different ammos with your guns. Based on my experience, seemingly similar guns can perform quite differently with different ammos. If I shoot "the higher quality" 178g in the WW, it goes to 1.5+ MOA. BTW - both use BCGs with dual ejectors. Never had an issue with either - at all. Happy shooting!
  6. I've been happy with the Holosun 510C on my 9mm PCC. It also comes with a QD mount, so I can switch it over to my Mossberg 12 ga. for turkey season if I want to. My 2 cents opinion -and that about it's worth.
  7. Outside the reach of a shotgun. It didn't like being spotlighted and moved on. After a bit more thought, probably not a good idea to try to knock down something that big over a populated suburban neighborhood. We're still recovering from Hurricane Helene. I'd hate to be responsible for crashing something into someone's home or worse. Still have to wonder WTF it was doing. It's not like there is anything interesting going on around here that I know of.
  8. All I know is that there has been a car size drone buzzing around our mountain neighborhood for over an hour now. It'd be a tough shot with a rifle on a moving target. But if I can catch it out a window with a swivel bipod ....
  9. Let us know how you like it. Since Wyndham Weaponry closed their doors, I'm looking for another source of reasonably priced high quality factory assembled .308ars. I have a few friends, (like myself), who lack the patience and attention needed to build from kits or parts, but prefer to start with a solid rifle with a lifetime warranty and customize from there.
  10. Just like I like to give a shout out when I experience excellent customer service, I feel compelled to report a recent shitty buying experience with Bud's Gun Shop. Purchased a used Ruger MarkIV .22 pistol advertised in "excellent condition". I realize "excellent" is a subjective term, but I'd give this pistol a "fair" condition at best, although excellently cleaned and packaged. But what really pissed me off was discovering that the threads for mounting an optical were stripped. Didn't discover this right away since there was a filler screw in the hole. It was more than 30 days after receipt (maybe 45) when I started mounting a plate hen this was discovered. So I got hosed and Bud's has lost a formerly excellent customer for life. Off my soap box.
  11. Currently, the Sam's Club's price for a 32 gun safe is $599 w/$90 shipping. https://www.samsclub.com/p/sports-afield-32-gun-fireproof-safe-with-electronic-lock/P990336492?xid=plp_product_6
  12. I got my last one (after I outgrew my first one) from Sam's Club. The brand is Sports Afield and the quality is pretty good - fireproof and waterproof. Electronic lock with a key for emergencies. If you are a member and keep an eye on their "instant savings" sales you can get a good deal that includes free shipping to your door. The free shipping is a pretty rare deal when it comes to gun safes.
  13. Had the opportunity to take the Sub2K out for the first time last week. Generally happy with it. Zero malfunctions out of a couple of boxes of 2 brands of ammo and 3 different magazines. Holosun 510C with the QD mount is fantastic. Repeatedly took it off and put it back on with no change in point of impact. Only disappointing part of the shoot was realizing how weak my eyes have gotten shooting a "long gun" without magnification. Still - a PCC is way more accurate than a pistol. 2-3" 5-shot groups at 30 yards shooting freehand fairly quickly - both right-handed an left-handed. Best groups were when using the 33 round Glock mags as a monopod got about 1.5" groups from a rest at that distance. Best feature is the gun's small size and extreme light weight - right at 4 lbs. Good to grab n go with the Shake Awake red dot.
  14. Seriously nice fish! About 2 hrs in the smoker w/ apple wood is one way!
  15. Figured I'd get this picatinny rail for my old Mossberg 500. Not that I have any trouble hitting anything with it as it is. But, this will allow me to switch a Holosun 510c with a quick connect/disconnect back and forth between the PCC I bought if for and my shotgun. Hopefully, it'll inspire me to get in more turkey hunting in the coming year. https://www.amazon.com/Monstrum-Tactical-Mossberg-Shotgun-Picatinny/dp/B00ME8SZFS
  16. Damn. Your last post post got me to adding up what I have spent on my "cheap" PCC ensemble: Gun w/ shipping and tax $373; FFL fee $25; optic and QD mount w/shipping and tax $332; two-33 round Glock mags w/ shipping and tax $332 - total $794. Still a little less than I spent on the wife's new iPad for Xmas, so I guess that makes me an ok husband 😆😇 (I just won't mention the like new Ruger Mark IV (and accessories) I also picked up during the process ...) As one of our fellows is prone to say, whatta hobby! :
  17. Just seeing that trout has put a rumble in my belly and a hankering for a fishing trip North and West! So much bigger than our trout in the SE. Outside of striped bass, there are few good eating freshwater fish larger than 10# around here.
  18. Heck yea! That is a deal on that gun. I like the looks and features of the FX9. Unfortunately this is as cool as my little Sub2K will ever look. Wanted to keep it light, simple and discreet. I will get some packing foam for the inside of the laptop case.
  19. I'm too damn old to worry about looking cool anymore 🤣
  20. Initial impression is good. Feels solid. Metal trigger. Haven’t measured it but trigger pull feels like about 4.5#. Fits in my old laptop bag 🤣. Think I’ll put a Holosun 510c with a quick release mount and see how she shoots after Xmas. Lot on my plate until then.
  21. I hear you on the Kel-tec possibly feeling cheap. I historically tend towards higher end toys myself. I've got a Gen3 on order. Supposedly the Gen3 no longer has an aluminum trigger and has a reduced trigger pull from prior generations. We'll see how it feels and functions in the real world shortly. I confess the rotating folding stock and light weight were the big selling points for me (lesser selling points, it was $319 and made in the US). It should fit into a day pack or computer laptop case with room to spare for multiple mags. By most accounts, the previous generations were reliable.
  22. 2 cents - could also go with a Kel-tec sub 2k Gen3 - currently under $350 at Bud's and Palmetto - Black Friday deal. Though the FX-9 definitely looks badass..
  23. Like the look of the tail hook. Nice to hear you are thinking of an respecting the local hunters. I was hunting on a buddy's farm a couple of years ago, while someone on the adjoining tract was blasting away all afternoon. He repeatedly would pause just long enough to convince me he was done for the day, so I never did relocate. Was asking about the can because I recently ordered a Gen 3 Kel-tec Sub2K 9mm on a good Black Friday deal for $319. Already have an older Sig Romeo 5 laying around that should be good for it. I've come to enjoy shooting without hearing protection with a suppressor on my .22s. Thinking I might be able to go up in caliber and still do that.
  24. What can are using with your 9mm? Do you like it?
  25. Ordered a used Ruger MarkIV target pistol with a threaded bull barrel from Bud's. Thought maybe I could get a bit more use out of a Banish 22 suppressor that I had previously bought for a 10/22 I use mainly for groundhog control in a suburban setting. If nothing else, I guess I'll see how buying a used firearm online from Bud's goes. Bought a used Browning Hi-power online from Gunbroker 10+ years ago. That transaction went fine.
