On the original topic, situational awareness is critical no matter how you carry. Taking things for granted and not paying attention in the moment are the leading root causes of untimely deaths IMO. Keep your head on a swivel and learn to read people and read situations as they unfold. Let your guard down for even a moment and it could cost your life.

I like the old stuff, that's my bread and butter, but I've always been a man from an earlier time. Your second issue doesn't strike me as an issue, it is the case with both my 1911s, and my personal method for easing down the hammer one-handed... Edit: Are you saying that having the hammer in the full-cocked position depresses the grip safety or are you referring to when the hammer is at the extreme rear of it's travel?
