There's some Hell-Raisin' coming up soon...

I think I talked Tom into bringing his short barreled "Scout" -

dpms buffer spring in Magpul stock
Robocop1051 replied to mharris's topic in DPMS Panther Arms LR-308 | Bushmaster 308
Mharris, welcome! From the looks of it, you're missing a buffer detent and spring. Had you bought a complete "Lower Parts Kit" these parts would have been part of that package. http://classic.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=24084/Product/BUFFER-DETENT http://classic.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=24085/Product/BUFFER-DETENT-SPRING These two parts drop in the hole at te end of the threads where the buffer tube screws in. While holding the detent in with your finger, screw the buffer tube in till the lip of the buffer tube just passes the edge of the detent. The nipple at the top of the detent should still be exposed. That nipple is what holds in the buffer and spring. Now my question is, exactly which model Magpul stock did you buy? The long tube (also referred to as a rifle length or A1 tube) only fits fixed length stocks. I know magpul makes a fixed version, but I want to make sure you're not trying to put a collapsible stock on a fixed tube. -
I'm not a gunsmith by any stretch. I consider myself more a "Tinkerer Extraordinaire". I have just enough tools to get me into trouble, a dremmel and an imagination. Nothing in life is 100% compatible. Building a rifle is like building a relationship. You have to work at it, and it takes a compromise from both parts to get harmony. Whoever heard of a gunsmith that quit on a product like that? It doesn't take a genius to see that BAD Inc is displayed in nearly every rifle advertisement across the Internet. The BAD-ASS product placement has become the Pepsi can of the gun world. What gunsmith worth his salt, would deny the experience of EVERYONE ELSE over his own inability to install an ambi switch.

I brought mine. It's a simple 14.5" with MBUS sights. -
Battlecomp makes a stainless BABC... I have two of them on my rifles.
-
I have to admit, I wrote a note to Brownells about that post. I was very tired (and a little inebriated). I clicked the "Report" button to send a note directly to the office. I mentioned that the supposed "gunsmith" poopoo'd a product without actually deducing the error in the product. Someone who claims that kind of experience has a responsibility to provide more information when they post a review.

If they were affordable... I'll take mine in MultiCam, with front and rear storage, and a rifle rack

What a sack of poop! I've installed the BAD-ASS in my Mega AR-15, SI-D .308, LMT AR-15 and best of all.... I put a short throw BAD-ASS in my 25 year old Colt AR-15! TBH, there was a slight snag with the Colt when I first installed it. I polished the tip of the detent pin and greased the two parts. It's fine now. So far I have three short throws and one original. I'll be ordering another short throw in the near future. Maybe two, if Tom can show me how to build a <21" AR Pistol to fit in my saddle bag :)

I don't trust the insert style blocks. These posts confirm my aversion to those blocks... http://308ar.com/forum/building-a-308ar/help/msg37228/#msg37228 http://308ar.com/forum/building-a-308ar/help/msg37264/#msg37264

Ahhh Humboldt. That's what what we Californians (especially us NorCal guys) refer to as the GREEN county! The only place in CA that stays GREEN all year around. I have family in Eureka, even dated a gal from Fortuna (a lifetime ago). Great place for bear hunting too, as long as you stay out of the GREEN areas and away from those crazy gold miners. I've hunted most of Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, Trinity, Shasta, Colusa and Alturas county. I love being a NorCal resident. It's all them damned southerners (and SF) ruining it for us. Welcome to our site. I'm sure you'll get plenty of help on your build.

If this was directed for a pistol application, here are some links to some decent reviews on the tritium sights I mentioned above. Meprolight vs TruGlo Extended TruGlo review (day) Extended TruGlo review (night)
-
Do you shoot at night, or in the dark? If not, then you would be better off with a day glow sight (fiber optic). Tru-Glo makes a tritium AND fiber optic sight. I have seen this on a few dept Glocks, and so far they look nice. My Sig elite has sights very similar to the Meprolight Day/Night sights, and they work fine for me so far. If you had a firearm that you wanted for defense at night, then I highly suggest it. I always have them put on my duty weapons. If you have a firearm that you plink with at the range or up in the mountains, don't waste your money. I too bought the Troy Di-Optic battle sights with tritium for one of my rifles. I think they were a total waste of money, and wish I had spent the money on Magpul instead. I also bought a trijicon tritium front post and installed it in a Magpul MBUS... Again, not really functional. In my ongoing effort to make a better front AR sight, I just ordered this for a 7.62x39 build I did a while back.... (click the pic for the link) We'll see how it turns out when I get home from vacation.

Probably not. The outer dimensions of the billet receivers don't match the forged receivers. I ran into this issue with the Mega AR15 billet. Try this thread out... http://308ar.com/forum/ar-308-tools/universal-vise-block!!!/
-
Our insiders at Armalite have been holding out on us! They have a nifty little device that looks LEAGUES better than the standard vise blocks that are available to us... Better still... You can use it on AR-15's and it's .308 big brother!! http://www.armalite.com/itemform.aspx?Item=15901202 ArmaLite’s Flat Top Vise Jaws are a new, unique set of Jaws that we developed specifically to hold all flat top AR-10 and M-15 upper receivers (including our new SPR Mod 1). These Jaws hold the upper receiver in a sideways horizontal position, making barrel replacement easier and more secure than ever before. These Jaws clamp onto the top and bottom of the upper receiver, so there is less chance of deforming the upper receiver when using them. However, it is still important not to clamp the vise too tightly. NOTE: To allow you to bolt the Jaws to a vise of your choice, the Jaws come to you undrilled. They may be used undrilled, or you may drill and bolt them to your vise for a secure, permanent application. I'm ordering this ASAP. I have been using the clam shell style for years, but that only works if you have a forged AR15. All my billet Mega receivers are too bulky to fit in the clam shell.

My wife is very upset she is too pregnant to ride. Here's a picture of her trx450. We were playing at Sand Mountain NV.

Ps. Just got word that my .308 is being overnight shipped to me. No glass for it yet though. I tried to get a NF scope, but the wait is 12-16 weeks. I put my order in for the next release. -

Just don't forget my bunny ears and slippers! It will sting more when you see me wearing that, taking your's & Greg's $10 bills. -
Proof Research and Christensen Armaz make carbon fiber wrapped barrels. They run $850-$1000 each. Most of you're fluted "bad ass" styled barrels come from less than exemplary companies. Try SI Defense, NEMO Arms and LOKI Weapons Systems. Rainier also has a selection of fluted barrels.
