  1. www.WMDGUNS.com <thumbsup>
  2. From 18" to 24" you will only gain about 30 fps per inch, totaling 180-200 fps. That extra speed won't make a difference till you reach 800 yards. There is a detailed post on here somewhere. I posted a rough velocity chart from 10" to 24".
  3. Just to play devil's advocate to myself... I had a conversation with my father, just this afternoon, about this topic. He was a LEO Sniper for 17 years, of a 34 year career. While he is now retired, when it comes to shooting, the man has surgical skills. After listening to my argument about the .260 Rem vs .308 Win, he provided his little input. Three years ago he shot a 900+ pound Elk with a .257 Roberts at 500+ yards... I was silent... He said he'd love to shoot oinkers at 600 yards with a .260 Rem. His results are not normal, as he has an inhuman amount of training. Just pointing out that if you have the skill, the bullet will do the rest of the work.
  4. Do LW barrels come in both LR-308 and AR-10?
  5. I'm not very LAR-8 saavy. I think their CH's are longer than standard 308 CH's.
  6. Contact Noveske and ask if they can part with one.
  7. Well if your technology challenged ass would get a Facebook account, you would have seen it already! <laughs> They are estimating $59-$69.
  8. <thumbsup> They grew on me. I used to think, "why?" After a while I just started liking them. Especially if you have a standard handguard. I look forward to your pictures! <munch>
  9. If they come out in time, I see one in my future. My 300blk still needs a CH. Not too excited about the $$$. AXTS is pretty proud of their stuff. Their price tags are hefty.
  10. That is also about two business cards thick. I actually have two strips of business cards taped together in my tool box, just for that gap. If you're unsure, it's safe to use the gap in all installations. The gas hole in the barrel is always smaller than the gas hole in the gasblock. It's like covering a gopher with a bucket. You have room for adjustment. If you rest a gasblock in the shoulder, you run the risk of smashing the end of the gas tube into the gas key on your BCG. This is very important for piston systems. That little bit of distance can be the cause of a crushed piston rod.
  11. It looks like Rainier Arms is teaming up with AXTS to bring us a new ambi charging handle. AXTS responded to me, saying a 7.62 version was soon to follow the 5.56 version. Here's a size comparison to several other brands.
  12. Welcome to our site. I hope we can help. The ORC's I've seen had low profile gas blocks already installed. Your only obstacle is the barrel nut. Most high end free float tubes require their proprietary barrel nuts. If you're doing the work yourself, you'll need a large vise, a receiver vise block and a barrel nut wrench. You'll also need to get rid of that handguard cup. Either remove the gas block to slide the cup off, or cut enough of the cup away so a free float will clear it. As it sits now, almost any drop in handguard will work. As long as it is midlength. They make 308 specific parts, but most ar15 parts will fit with just a little bit of modification.
  13. Is the 270 WSM the same size base as the 300 WSM? Are you sharing the BCG between two rifles?
  14. Woohoo! Party at Drew's place! :auto: :hethan: :sniper: :2nd:
  15. I'd leave all steel casings for the G3 family rifles, and the FN's. They were built for those types of ammo. The wear and tear you put on an ar308 bolt is unnecessary. You'll eventually wear out parts that are a pain in the ass to repair. You can get away with one or two, now and then. But the more expensive your rifle the more I would shy away from steel. I have a few hundred rounds of steel NATO 7.62, and it shoots great from my buddies HK91. That ammo will never see the inside of my AR308.
  16. As far as I know, the 300 WSM comes from the 300 Win Mag... Just a shorter case. From left to right: .300 Winchester Magnum, .300 WSM, .308 Winchester, .223 Remington
  17. Harris doesn't make a twist lock version. The Harris just pulls straight out and locks. Press the lock and the legs snap back inside.
  18. This topic has been moved to Building a .308AR. [iurl]http://308ar.com/forum/index.php?topic=3288.0[/iurl]
  19. This is just my $0.02 As a bullet gets smaller, the requirement for bullet placement becomes more immediate. The .260 is a long distance performer, and if you were whackin' coyotes at 800 yards I think you'd be right on the money. The flatter trajectory and aerodynamics of the bullet are perfect for long range. Hogs are another ball game. They are tough and girthy beasts. When I'm shooting under 100 yards I stick to a 44 or 45 caliber rifle. Personally I like lever guns, and been known for using 45-70 and 444 Marlin for some of the larger oinkers. Although a 45LC or 44Mag is more likely. As I get out further I trust my .308 for damn near everything I can hunt in North America. If you want a reliable cartridge that will drop a +200 lbs beast out to 1000 yards, I suggest the .338 Federal. It uses the .308 win brass as well, and is fully compatible with the AR format. I think the .260 can do it, but the shot placement is going to be more paramount than if you were using the larger bullets.
  20. Here is a side-by-side comparison of the three .308 models.
  21. this is the interview. It's mostly about the AR15, but you'll get the picture. Here are some more vids on Costa shooting the hybrid.
  22. http://www.insighttechnology.com
  23. Yeah, I think so. There's a YouTube vid on it somewhere.
  24. Only if I get a new gun for each step, and one for finishing, and one for doing better than edgecrusher.
  25. Are you talking about the "Costa" hybrid rifle from Shot Show 2012??
