  1. To some extent, yes. With the really difficult ones you need something with less give in it. I also have a metal block I use, but I have to cover it so keep from scratching my guns. I tried that last night and only mushroomed the tops. After they were flat I used a center punch to get them started. Once the whole was visible I went in with the proper size punch. two taper pins destroyed in the process, and one seriously marred FSGB.
  2. I hate them! I more than hate them. I loathe them. I've never had two taper pins alike. Some slide out easily (although that's rare for me), some damage my punches because they are so hard, some mushroom flat because they are so soft... I once took apart a Stag AR for a buddy. The taper pins were so tight that I damaged my punch, even the BFH failed me. Eventually had to use my rotary tool. I cut the FSGB to pieces to pull that damned thing off. I have the Brownells cheater blocks. I have the old metal version and the new orange plastic version. I also have all the neccessary punches... Yet I still run into issues. What methods do you guys use to take out taper pins?
  3. You can go online and request to pick it up at their location instead, or leave a note on the business door to hold the package for an extra day when you're their again.

  5. Unforgiven, you're gonna love that upper. I'm building nearly the exact same one right now. I should have pics tonight.
  6. Wouldnt the lead from a 7.62x39 fit in the 300Blk? Where does all that cheap 123gr soft point lead come from? I'm not saying it'd be accurate, but it'd definitely be cheap!!
  7. I get so much Winchester 55gr FMJ for free, I can barely justify something else. I scored a few hundred Federal "American Eagle" in a deal recently, but it's basically the same 55gr FMJ stuff. I don't hunt with the ar15 (yet), so plinking ammo is all I keep around.
  8. He may?? I have to ask more questions next time I see him.
  9. I have that exact same set-up. Owned it for years, and still haven't used it. It has become a mini coat rack for random desk items. I do, however, use my dremmel like it's 8 year old in a 3rd world Nike factory.
  10. Woohoo! Brownells fairy visited me last night bearing cardboard boxes wrapped in tape and shipping labels. LW 5.56 build for this weekend!
  11. I have a family friend that owns a reloading business. He has been bitten by the 300Blk bug, and swears by it now. I am patiently waiting on all your results before I bombard him with thousands of round of brass. PS. http://www.loadxammo.com/ It's a smaller shop, but Steve puts out thousands of round every week. He completely supplied my Police Academy with pistol ammo. Great plinking ammo. You can buy ammo he has on hand, order new ammo, or send him your brass and ask for a reload. Great guy!
  12. You have an extended charging handle so you should be able put your MBUS back another notch or two, and still function your rifle. It'll hang over the back a bit, but the magnifier will protect it from accidental whacks. It might give you an inch back on your eye relief. Eventually you might want to consider a flip-to-side mount for that x3. Otherwise you are going to be constantly taking the thing on and off to transition. Nice looking combo!
  13. You hit your target 2600!!! <thumbsup>
  14. Truer words have never been spoken. Well put.
  15. I say, you wouldn't have bought an AR if you don't plan on changing it at some point. I think you should go to a rifle length. The 308 is over gassed as it is. I know 1 or 2 guys here have 16" barrels with rifle length gas. I just ordered a 17" with rifle length gas. If you're looking to conceal the gas block, the mid length is as short as I would recommend. I wouldn't go to a carbine unless barrel length gave me no other option. I just switched my last AR15 over to a 14.5" mid. I'm done with carbines, at least till I can finagle a SBR.
  16. Now we can add edgecrusher too! <thumbsup>
  17. All standard sizes.
  18. Good point. I put my build on the back burner for a few weeks. Wife wants to go to Hawaii... Maybe that will give me time for that Wilson Combat barrel to come back into stock.
  19. I just joined the 1,000 club... and I did it before edgecrusher :P I love this place!
  20. I just saw (I may be late to the party on this) that Rainier has 14.5" and 16" carbine length, UltraMatch , barrels. They are made from Shilen blanks. http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=3051 http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=3052
  21. I'd love a Bobro, but the scope I'm looking at has a 35mm tube. ARMS and GG&G only go upto 30mm... I called Larue and told them what scope I wanted, they gave me the product number immediately. Do you think I can get a special order Bobro?
  22. I'll get my fatass home and take a picture with my mutt later tonight... No Armalite, but I'll show some sponsor love.
  23. Welcome to the club. I can't begin to count how many times I hear, usually right after the doorbell rings, "what the hell did you order now?"
  24. Off road was mountains ago... You know the group of us are the core offenders of Thread Jacking.
