  6. no problem. while building can be more expensive, doing it over time can offer relief, ordering part by part. it also allows you to custom build your rifle to suit your needs. which you may end up doing anyway. we have a group buy here through a member for mega arms, and it offers good prices, but your build will end up around 1800 or so i would guess. there is lots of content to read, have at it and feel free to bounce questions off anyone, we are all happy to spend someone else's money!!!!
  7. what are your shooting goals in distance? 10x power is good for 500yds, i would say. while i don't have nikon experience, i heard good things of the monarch line
  8. the short answer there is no, getting the .308 platform that light is realexpensive. the platform overall is more expensive than the 5.56's, so be prepared to spend some extra money. that being said, there are more and more used ones coming to the market, and less expensive offerings from factory's. one of the few light weight factory rifles is the larue predatar, which is being used as a competition rifle by many, but is more expensive. here is a link for reference: http://www.laruetactical.com/predatar762 just so you know, a 16" rifle is good for 4-500yds in hunting accuracy if you can do your part. and if my travels to maine are any indication of where you'll be hunting, you won't even need that distance. welcome to the forum, from mass
  9. but in the meantime…… what else are you buying for this ???? <munch>

  14. this is from our friend tom, 98z5v, about putting those on: To put those on a .308 AR, he'll have to cut the heatshields to get it to fit. It's back by the chamber area, because the chamber is larger then the 5.56 guns. About an inch or so forward of the BACK of the handguard is where a straight cut needs to be made in the heatshield. No material really needs to be removed, but you have to "notch" that heatshield so it can flex away from the rest of the heatshield, and still get on there. As always, some minor fitting of the plastic areas that mate up to the front mount, and rearwards at the delta ring, might need to be made. The primary problem for the .308 is getting that lower hanguard around the fatass .308 chamber-area of the barrel. That heatshield is what hangs up. good luck man, edge
