New member and build with initial issues. Advise and input welcome

Eh, I'm no engineer, but I've built alot of engines and pissed around with turbocharging and fuel injection, nitrous, and methanol for a main fuel, for a long time. Math matters, or your engine scatters... These things are no different. Here's a Fulton Armory barrel-profile example: For years, they had Criterion making a stainless steel .308 Win chambered barrel, 16" length, rifle gas. Dwell time on a 16" rifle gas barrel is very short (2.875" on a properly build barrel). To make this barrel functional, it had a 0.936 gas block journal diameter, and ran a 0.105" gas port diameter. It had to be that way. Bring that journal diameter down to 0.750" like a standard barrel, and it's danger close to being 0.125" - which is no bueno. -

I didn't see a Load Bearing Vest in woodland camo until I got to 7th ID(L) in 1989... Hell, even 2qt canteens were kinda new still, then. -
That's close, but not exact. There's an exact thing here causing this, ripping up the west coast, and spreading east. Florida will eventually fall from this, as well - with all the New Yorkers leaving New York, and invading Florida. Eventually, the fuktards will bring their old mentality, it'll take over, and it's gonna wreck Florida in the long term. "Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!" They all take the call, uproot, and move, for more Freedom... Then, the thinking takes holds, long term habits - and they fukc the place up that they just moved to for that Freedom!... This is what they do, and they can't help themselves, long term... Just to show you it's not fake - it's an issue... Even with demented snakes, in the real world...

Pistol Brace Update, from 7 Jun 21

Really good read on everything that's in play here, in this Pistol Brace shiit-show. https://firearmslaw.duke.edu/2023/03/litigation-highlight-legal-challenges-to-atf-rule-on-stabilizing-braces/ -
What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
That's BADASS!!! However, here's where we differ on opinions. I've stitched alot of extra shiit onto my TA-50 gear in the past life. Extra grenade pouches onto my canteen covers (you can fit 2 on a canteen cover) - stuff like that. I ALWAYS used the Mint-waxed dental floss. Because it's green. I didn't want shiit stitched onto my web gear, with white dental floss - and no, that's not racist... Dental floss is the shiit for stitching gear together. I'm glad to see this from you, man - big time. If your fangs can't rip dental floss, nothing can. It's the toughest "thread" in the world... -

Cram it - get a pic. Make it fit, brother. Mongo Smash might have to appear here, but let it RIP!... WAIT!!! YOU tripled HAND stitched that thing, JUST to MAKE the mags fit?!!? You just went up another notch beyond the canned chicken, by far... -
What's the pattern, here?... I have the answer. I just want to see someone else say it.
-
Boseman, Montana is in that track, too. It's gone.
-
Exactly. For proof, look at San Antonio, and Austin. Now Houston. Look at Phoenix. Look deeper into history, early 2000's was when it got deep, and this is what wiped out Portland and Seattle... Look at Durango, CO, and Denver, Aspen, Vail... What's the common demoninator?... I'll give you the answer, everyone, but that just wouldn't be fun. I'd like to hear it from others...

8-twist is the most common for these things now, just to handle the heavies.

^^^ Truth, right there. Max ID on a gas tube is 0.125". That's all that gas ports can go up to, because, just as you stated Rex - anything larger doesn't matter. There are ways around that, when you get close to 0.125" port diameter on a gun. You change the barrel profile to a larger diameter gas block journal. Very, very few manufacturers have this figured out - but Fulton Armory does. FA doesn't build their own barrels - they just have great barrel companies make the profile that they directly specify. I could go hours on this one, but I'll stop myself here. -
Stupid. ATF had their asses whipped with the Bump Stock. After that, they went Frame And Receiver, and got their ass whipped. After that, they had the balls to try Pistol Brace - and they're gonna get their ass whipped again, when it's all said and done. ALL Agencies are gonna suffer, because of ATF stupidity, over this, and ALL agencies are gonna get put in place. THEIR place - you ENFORCE laws. Congress MAKES LAWS. You don't. YOU DO NOT. It's literally EPA vs. W.VA. I called that early, when it happened. Agency over-reach is over. EPA/WVa was the callsign, for these Agencies - they'll get it, eventually. The 2A case was Bruen. THAT CASE set the standard to judge all forward cases, and made a demand to judge all PAST case determintations, right in it's decision... GO BACK... and they stated that on a few cases - GO BACK, and "re-interpret" NOW, based on THIS Bruen Decision... This is just a matter of time. ALL this agency over-reach is coming crashing down on them. Their days of doing whatever they want, for the last couple decades, "re-interpreting" what they want to do wheneverr they want - that all ended with EPA V. W.Va. They just don't realize it yet - and they're hitting the gas pedal, flooring it to try to ram through whatever they think they can get through... It's already over, by Juris Prudence - Case Law - they are just rejecting reality... EPA V. W.Va already decided it. It might suck - but just WAIT for it... Agency over-reach is done.

I'll buy you a CASE of 30-rd P-Mags as a house-warming gift, in the new home in your new state. There's 100 in a case. I've been trying to talk you into getting the fuk out of there since I've known you, and I got the fuk out of there when it was REALLY GETTING BAD, and that was 2004... It's declined exponentially, every single year, and doesn't recover. The Wet-Side Fukwads just keep making it worse, and voters can't beat them because - Free Shiit. Free needles, free income, free housing, free whatever... You need to BAIL, brother. Don't look in the rear-view, don't worry about how you'll do... BAIL... It might not work out too well, in the future, but there's a house for sale around the corner from me...

You might be a Ba-Jillionaire right now, brother. They just built in a "pre-ban" category for all the guns you own now, plus "pre-ban mags." You can sell those to people that decide to STAY in that fuckin' stupidass state, for a FORTUNE. It'll solely finance your move to a free state. Where you can THEN turn around and buy everything again, reduced cost vs. sold price... I'm just sayin'...

Very, very well done. Good on you for taking the time for you, which needs sorted out from time to time. You now have your mind clear, to focus on your mom. One task to the next is how we gotta handle life, so do what you have to now. Very well done, man.
-
Absolutely none of those suck. You can't go wrong if you buy all of them.

I wouldn't even think twice about opening it up more, if it was my gun. Bump it another step up, depending on what you see when you fire it. I wouldn't even think twice, if it wasn't locking back on a single round in the mag, and ejecting the fired case. Zero hesitation about punching it up again, done. Re-fire. Take the tools with you to the range, and cut the research time, just because. I've drilled a guy's barrel on a truck tailgate, in the middle of the night with a headlamp on, out here in the desert - to get the gun running. You do what you have to. Run that Adj gas block wide open when you test it, or it's screwing up the work you did on the gas port - that's the only real way to know. -
Mike Day has passed, of his own hand. This is sad fucking news for the Vet Community. RIP, Mike Day, now after your battles. The news is all over now, but this was the story that broke it, so this is the one I'm posting. https://taskandpurpose.com/news/mike-day-navy-seal-iraq/

This video shows you what manufacturers DO NOT KNOW...
98Z5V replied to 98Z5V's topic in Building a .308AR
They will, too - it's about profit margins, more than anything. I mean, you can't put a perfect gun out the door at a competitive price, perfect in every way, that battles the price differential of a budget gun - you lose money that way. That's why you'll have a DD gun, the KAC SR-25 guns... You are gonna PAY for those - but they work... DPMS (the ORIGINAL DPMS) had it figured out, with the LR-308, with carbine recoil systems -but they used their own spring, and taht thing made it work right. The NEW DPMS? Well, Remington fuqd that up, proper, by going under, and getting parted out. That's just a PSA PA-10 Gen 3, with different markings on the lower receiver. Nothing more. The best you'll ever do on a "budget gun" in the Large Frame is the Armalite DEF-10. It's about a grand - but it's all working right, has the right parts, and won't fuq up on you. Other "budget gun makers" think that you can get away with a 3.8oz buffer, some recoil spring (that might actually be an AR15 Carbine spring), some shortass 7.000" internal depth receiver extension, and 2.500" buffers. You can band-aid those short recoil systems to work, and they'll work - but that doesn't mean that's "optimal" and where you want to be on the gun. After that cheapass recoil system, compromises need to be made to the gas system, to get the gun to function, most of the time. The $$$ behind the recoil system is the driver in all this, because tungsten and stainless steel are expensive. They go cheap(er) on recoil parts. THEN, they need to "dumb-down" the gas system, make the port smaller to function a too-light recoil system, and they'll just use AR15 midlength gas tubes, or AR15 rifle gas tubes. Eh, good enough for most people, shooting most ammo, most of the time. Yeah. Not. Even the BEND in the two different system's gas tubes is supposed to be different... AR15 to Large Frame. Height-Over-Bore should scream out at people, if they even knew the difference in the first place... Most don't. Enough for now - this is all about profit margins. Cheap guns that aren't built right will definitely hit that occasion where they DON'T WORK right. I'm off this soap box for tonight on this one... -
Found this cute little fella out in the desert today. He was just getting some sun, on the road, chilling out. He's so tiny! He was precious. Little Gopher Snake. I had to lay out something to compare the size of him. Only thing I could find in the back of the truck that would capture what he really was - was a 5ft T-Post... Just kidding - this was a big dude. I laid that t-post out there to give a size comparison -he was literally in the middle of the dirt road, gathering sunlight power. recharging his batteries. He was calm, never got pissed off - and really, didn't even move, the whole time. I saw his little forked tongue come out a couple times, so I knew he wasn't dead. There was NOBODY out there, and he had no body damage (like getting run over), but he wouldn't move. So, I decided to move him - get him safe, somewhere. He's one of the good snakes, at any rate. As soon as I reach for the back (white side) of that t-post, and start nudging him, he decided to backtrack towards me. Okay, whatever. By the time he got his thick ass turned around, and was moving towards a big bush beside the road, he was all the way as long as that 5ft t-post... Cool stuff...

Yep, normal. That happens on all of them.

Funny as hell, brother!!! Ft Devens does that to you. I was there in '88, for a school, and the announcement came over the radio - Pink Floyd in Foxboro Stadium that night! Yeah, school night, we went anyway, all fucked up the next day in class. Now, this get's deeper... Me and THE SAME GUY just left San Angelo, TX, for training, had that add-on course at Ft Devens before we went to out first units. When we were at San Angelo, something comes over the radio... "Pink Floyd at Austin Civic Center TONIGHT!".. . And we hit that one -yep, on a school night. Next day sucked, as well. Saw Floyd twice on the same tour, two different states, with the same crazy friend that I was in school with... It was Epic, both times... Went BACK to Ft Devens in 1991... I'm IN CLASS WITH THE SAME FUCKING GUY!!! Fucking around at lunch, radio says, "Aldo Nova, Great White, and the Scorpions at ..." some amphitheater that has a different name now... So - what'd we do? WE WENT!!! Can't stop the train right now, this was meant to be, brother!!! Next day sucked AGAIN.. but so worth it. Aldo Nova is a badass, Great White rocks, and Scoprpions played a 3-hour set with no breaks, just going after it the whole time. Life is weird, what it brings you - so take advantage of it when you can... Some Aldo Nova for a tribute: Here's kind of a new video layout, from a couple years ago. Same song, though, and still badass... Now THIS ONE... Aldo Nova was 24 years old in 1982 when he dropped that song. Here is him last year, at 62 years old, just crushin' it!... Fuckin' MEMORIES... Thank you, Rex, for bring up what you brought up, brother. Badass...
