Nor can they walk in and buy a Suppressor, Short Barreled Rifle, Short Barreled Shotgun, Destructive Device. LEOs can't even walk in and buy that stuff - nobody can, without a rigorous background check, and approval process, through the BATFE. You gotta have "the stamp" in your hand, before you can ever take possession of it from the dealer it was sent to. In some states, you'll NEVER legally own some or all of those items - Ever. State Law. Thus, "Illegal." You're reading WAY too far into that comment made by Romney. Autos ARE illegal. Until you "complete the process." Proof being - let's say I have a registered automatic weapon. I give it you to for the weekend of fun shooting... If you get busted with it, you are "in possession of an unregistered automatic weapon" and I'm going to jail, too - for letting someone use it that is not registered to use it. That's "illegal" in the biggest sense of the word. If you wanna bet prison time on it, then try it out. I hope that makes sense to you, and you understand, a little deeper, into those comments made. Find out what the barrel-nut stats are - that will drive everything else. Armalite-patterned and DPMS-patterned barrel nuts are different, and you need a specific rail made for one of those two - find out what RRA is using.

The only small parts you need to worry about the the .308AR are: Bolt catch Buffer spring Buffer Take down pin Pivot pin All the other parts are AR-15 parts. You can use the AR-15 safety, the takedown/pivot detents and springs, safety detent and spring, grip, grip screw, trigger assembly, mag release assembly (and it's spring). Receiver extensions (carbine or rifle) are the same, most of the time. Exceptions to that include the VLTOR A5 setup for AR-15s - don't use that on a .308 AR. Rock River Arms stuff is different, also, for their .308 AR (LAR-8). Large parts need to be specifically .308 AR - receivers, BCG complete, barrel, barrel nut, rails, etc. If you start thinking about mixing Armalite patterned parts and DPMS patterned together - get ahold of us before you purchase. Some things work, many don't.

They're AR-15 parts, directly. No difference in those parts between the two platforms.

Exactly. Tolerance stacking can kick our collective asses at times. As a manufacturer, just for lowers, you might get in 100 raw forged lowers. You machine them into final finished form. Most of this is CNC now. What do you think those bits look like for Number 98, 99, and 100 out of that batch? Dulled, not cutting as smoothly or accurately, etc. That's how we sometimes get out of spec parts.

Having problems, here. I've been buying locally, at higher prices (prefer to do that normally). When the local prices are WAY higher than what I can get on the 'net, I try to go to the 'net. Online sources are tough to find now, with repeatability - there are some short supplies out there. I mostly reload .223/5.56, and I always sort that brass separate, and only use CCI primers. I've been grabbing whatever CCI 400s and CCI 41s that I can, and put those into the respective cases that I have. If I'm low on 400s at the time, I load 41s in the 5.56 instead. Vice versa. It's tough out there right now. I hope that changes soon. <thumbsup>

Separate the upper and lower - does the bolt catch cycle smoothly? Nothing on it at all, no pressure from a mag, no pressure from a locked-back bolt - is it rough in it's mount in the lower?

If you can't get these bullets to mag length for a .308 semi, then just buy a 300BLK barrel and start re-necking 5.56 brass... <laughs> <thumbsup> Those heavies would work great from a 300BLK setup. ;D The most common long .308 AR projo is the 175gr BTHP. Some 180grainers will work, but not many.

After I put the AAC Brakeout on the Rem 700, it had a pretty significant POI shift - about 4" left and 4" up. Re-zero'd it, and it's still dead-nuts accurate again. I saved that target somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.
