  1. I can't stand the news media "blaming" the US for this poop, when all US dealers fall under the ITAR for shipping to non-US addresses. Something isn't right with all this, as far as that goes. For F's Sake, we have US troops that can't get poop shipped to them via an APO address, because of the ITAR - and they're in the damn combat zones. Smokey The Norwegian here did something fishy with his mailing address, or the small shop he was doing business with did some illegal poop, or both. In normal channels, this wouldn't have flown. But the media won't report that. Not at all. I'm just sayin'... We'll never truly know what happened with this, but the US will suck up all the blame, and gratefully so, and we'll accept all the guilt - in this administration. Off my soapbox... <dontknow>
  2. All the Fulton gear is on sale, too, until the 8th of August. 10% off i a decent amount of money, if you were looking for a complete upper. It's even a hell of a deal if you were looking only for the stripped upper receiver and side-charging BCG. <thumbsup>
  3. If those are tight chambers (I know that Savage is), then that 3 thou is enough to cause what's happening to you. <thumbsup> Those LC cases are set up for a military 7.62x51 chambering. When you do your reloading, are you using a full-length sizing die for .308 Win?
  4. This topic has been moved to Reloading. [iurl]http://308ar.com/forum/index.php?topic=1823.0[/iurl]
  5. Ooooh, got it. Didn't know you were a New Yawka... ;D
  6. Why permanently attach the brake, man? That barrel looks like it's longer than 16" - is it shorter than that?
  7. Short blurb from that linked article, from the Norwegian gunman's "manifesto:" Had to buy through a smaller US supplier (who again ordered from other suppliers) as most suppliers have export limitations… ALL "US suppliers" have export restrictions. ALL. That's what the ITAR is all about. http://www.pmddtc.state.gov/regulations_laws/itar_official.html The US shop owner that sold that poop and shipped it to Norway will be in a BUNCH of trouble, coming up real soon. That stuff will be discovered rather quickly.
  8. Only mounts I've seen like that are for red dot magnifiers. Don't know what you'd have to do in order to fit the primary optic into one of them. <dontknow>
  9. Probably the least expensive, quality way to do it would be with one of these: http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=EX0022 For what you're getting, and especially for that price, that's one kickass, quality scope mount. <thumbsup>
  10. Bump for the new Camp Perry Sale info. Even better deals if you can get to the event and buy from them right there.
  11. Wow, man, that's a serious discount, even for used! That would be a hard deal to pass up. I didn't know the Brits were using that optic on their L129s, but they've got to be doing it for a reason. I've used a 5.56-specific BDC scope on my .308 while I was waiting on the primary optic to go on sale, and the BDC hashes were nowhere close at distances over 300 yards. That info changes the game a little, right there. If you can snag one for $1300, it would definitely be worth it to do so, just to try. If it doesn't work for what you want, you could still sell it for the same that you paid, and not be out anything. Or, that's a really good reason to build up a nice 18" or 20" AR-15. ;D
  12. So, the 648 is a 6x scope with a BDC hash based on the .223 round, out to 800 meters. That is an M16A4 optic, right there, for someone in an SDM role. MSRP is $2.6k bones, too. The TA55 is also a 5.56-gun scope, but the TA-55A has a reticle for a .308 gun. Details, when ordering, are everything. Both those scopes MSRP at about $1,950. As I see it, based on your choices, the only available option that will work with the gun you ordered is the TA-55A. Did you research this, or just ask a general question? I'm just curious.
  13. Only military people I know that have a piston 5.56 are people that work somewhere under USASOC USSOCOM. And it's the HK 416. That would be a damn good gun if it were DI, and not even piston. Again, I'm just sayin', here.
  14. All hell broke loose on 3 October, 1993 in Somalia, too, and the DI guns got the job done. Plenty of times since then, too. I'm just sayin'... <dontknow>
  15. Here's what I was talking about up there ^^^ with the taped up plier jaws - works like a champ. <thumbsup>

    .308 vs. 7.62

No, brother - not necessarily. The primary caution is with the older surplus military rifles. Those are the ones that can have issues if you repeatedly shoot .308 Win through them. I'm a firm believer that if you have modern parts in modern builds, then it doesn't matter which rounds you shoot, or what is marked on the barrel.
  17. That's an awesome setup, man - thanks for sharing that. <thumbsup>
  18. No need for me to try to get pics of my buddy's FNP when you'll have one to post then... <lmao> <munch>

    .308 vs. 7.62

Info from the 303british.com article I posted: Military ammunition is loaded to maximum average pressure 50,000 CUP (approximately 58,000 PSI using the modern piezo transducer method of measurement). This standard is used to ensure better consistency round to round. It is proofed at 67,000PSI. The ammunition can then be used in a wide variety of firearms with no ill effects. Commercial ammunition has a SAAMI/ANSI maximum pressure of 62,000PSI. While not every manufacturer may load it to this level, this is the industry established maximum. This is also measured using the piezo transducer method. The proof cartridge pressure is 83,000 to 89,000 PSI. Note the differences between the military test and operational standard vs the commercial one.
  21. Self-acknowledgement and admission are the first steps of this affliction. <laughs>
  22. Welcome aboard, man. <thumbsup>
  23. POF pattern - something about the DPMS and POF upper and lower mating that requires offset pins, I believe. Jgun put this combo together, if I remember right, and later sold some of the parts to Matt Cross.
  24. Yep, right there. I've seen others mention this before on the RRAs, and they should break in a little. In the future, it shouldn't mark the cases as badly, but you will almost always find the ejector mark.
  25. Aaaaaaah - I forgot about the boats you picked up. <thumbsup>
