  1. Yeah, he was in on the build, picking parts - the Foliage color, at least. I didn't give him too much choice outside of that. He's been clearing the house with it for a few weeks now. He needs a light on there... <dontknow> <thumbsup>
  2. I had them both issued to me in a past military life. I like them both for different reasons and different missions. I prefer the Aimpoint if it's the 2MOA dot, especially for an all around red dot. Mount it forward, run a PVS-14 on the upper receiver behind it, and it's one sweetass setup. I never did try to run night vision behind the EOTech. Mounting options at the time sucked, and it wasn't even worth it to try - let alone the confusing reticle when everything is bright green, other shades of green, and gray. The Aimpoint was better in this role. Things might have changed by now, with different mounts for the EOTech, but I never had any. Now, I prefer the EOTech standard reticle for everything else. That 65MOA circle with a 1MOA dot inside is awesome in alot of roles. Anything close, just get it in the big circle and you're good, and you've still got a tiny little dot for longer distance targets. You can damage an Aimpoint to the point that you won't get anything in the reticle. You can put a bullet through the middle of the EOTech, and you'll still have the holograph visible in the broken glass. Aimpoint kicks EOTechs ass when it comes to battery life, starting the the Comp M3 models and up. Even the older Comp M2s were better than the first-gen EOTechs, before EOTech got slightly better about battery consumption. I'll go dig for a pic, so I'll be back... Edit - couldn't find the Afghanistan pics, but I'll keep digging. I was looking for a couple pics that show the 14 mounted behind the Aimpoint. Now, having used both before, and the Aimpoint extensively, I don't personally own one right now. I did, however, spend my money on the EOTech 512 last year. I like them both, but at the time, my money went to the 512.
  3. Damn, you've got your hands full with load development - a couple of those look really, really good, and none of them look bad at all. That's some pretty cool results. <thumbsup>
  4. Matt, check into what that guy is talking about, in regards to... "I don't charge for handling the paperwork and I offer a Trust template for free to whoever wants to go that route." Ask him specifics about this. Details. If he's talking about a Quicken trust, or other software-based "creat your own" document, it won't work. BATFE has deemed these not-legal, as far as the purpose of creating an NFA Trust (which is what you need). You're better off paying a lawyer that specializes in, or is at least familiar with, the NFA Trust process. Read some of this stuff here: http://www.guntrustlawyer.com/?gclid=CJeOlPCm5KoCFUpjTAodRXyS7A
  5. Let your dealer know it's transferring to a trust, and not to you as an individual. Fingerprints, passport photos, and CLEO signature are not required... unless you've got some kinda screwy state law mandating differently. If not, BATFE doesn't require that stuff for transfers to a trust, brother. I'm just sayin'... <dontknow>
  6. Two sets. Might as well get two passport ID photos while you're waiting. Form has to go in to them in duplicate, w/ photos and prints with each form. Wait a minute - aren't these going into a trust, and not personal ownership?
  7. ^^^ Sounds like he's got a pretty bad case of it, fellas... <lmao> <thumbsup>
  8. Most definitely. <thumbsup> Probably simetime next week, I'll get another order together. I still need a few more, plus the new pink one. ;D
  9. Built this one for my son for his 15th birthday - he's becoming quite the little shooter. Time for me to locate a semi-local Appleseed Shoot to get him into. BCM upper assembly with a lightweight 14.5" 1:7 twist barrel and a pinned A2X flash suppressor, Matech BUIS, Knight's M4 RAS and vertical grip. CMT complete BCG and a BCM large GF charging handle finish off the topend. SAA stripped lower, DPMS LPK, MagPul: MOE stock, Pmags, MOE grip and trigger guard, all in Foliage. ASAP plate, BADASS selector, and an H buffer finish off the bottom end. He has to buy his own optic, but I've already got an Aimpoint QRP mount for him, so he'd be smart to buy something that will fit into it. <dontknow> Wanted to build him something that would last forever, never be a problem, and nothing but quality parts. He'll probably be out there next weekend zeroing the irons.
  10. Wash, it's a seldom known fact that I can create a pretty decent, fitted stock. If you'd like to send her to Arizona for a couple weeks, I can send her back to you with a perfectly fitted custom stock that she'll just love. I'll pick her up and the airport, take her back to the airport, and I'll take care of all the lodging expenses... <thumbsup> <dontknow> <laughs>
  11. All MIL/LEO personnel: Any interest in setting up a separate MIL/LEO section on the board here? It would take me about 5 minutes to set it up. Lots of places have it, and it's beneficial for discussion that wouldn't necessarily be appropriate for an open forum, in some cases. If it's created, should access be limited to verified MIL/LEO personnel, or should it be wide open to the general public? Opinions, please. Let's hear from the MIL/LEO folks on this.
  12. Well, they're sisters, so it's in the bloodlines... <thumbsup> All I try to teach them is to have a solid base to shoot from, and it might not always be optimum, so you have to adapt. Get 'em back about 50 yards, and have them try to shoot the smallest group they can. That first pic, the poor girl was handed a 16" stainless bull barreled gun with a heavy suppressor and a magnified optic - she figured out pretty quick the best way to stabilize it to cut down on the scope wiggle. Second pic, she realized that she wasn't hitting worth a damn at 50 yards from the offhand, and she got down and got stabile. They both just started shooting about 6 months ago, and they're getting pretty damn good. ;D <thumbsup> You should see how accurate they are in the prone... <munch>
  13. Very cool, effecient setup - I like that alot. <thumbsup>
  14. I'll build one regardless - the girls I know will shoot it, and the option won't be available for my "visitors," especially if I'm supplying them with the gun AND ammo... <thumbsup> <laughs> I'll be calling you very soon about this, as well as the next 6 or so levers I need to complete the rest of my collection. My last order got me 1/2 way there. I love you guys. ;D
  15. Your wife will be here - she can shoot it. You and I will shooot the rest of the arsenal. <thumbsup>
  16. And I'll probably have it built by then... <dontknow> I'm averaging about two weeks from "decision time" to zeroing on targets... ;D I already have the lower, too (three spares right now), so everything else can come straight to me in the mail. If I go this route, you won't be the first to shoot it, brother, so that has to be some kinda consolation. <laughs>

    98Z5V Part 6

...aaaaaaand, I've got that going for me... :o
  18. 98Z5V

    98Z5V Part 6

Holy shat, I'm catching hell tonight. <dontknow> Good thing I'm ten feet tall, three rows of teeth, two coats of hair, and I'm bullet-proof!!! <laughs> <munch>
  19. Oh, make no mistake - she'll be the first one to zero and shoot it... <thumbsup> Next up will be this one... ;D Pics of it will be posted. I'm just sayin'... <dontknow> 8)
  20. Damn, I can't even come up with a smartassed reply to that... :-[ <laughs>
  21. Honestly, a phone call will give you the answer, but an email will get you a "Nope." Old school guys like phone calls more, I'm just sayin'... <thumbsup> (301) 490-9485 9:00am-5:00pm EST, Mondays through Fridays
  22. And it can handle the pressure... <lmao> <munch> It's all in the girth, not the length... <thumbsup>
  23. I've been seriously considering a pink-gun build, as a range loaner. <dontknow> <laughs> Anybody visits, wants to go shoot - they get the pink gun, and pics get taken (of course). Just the availability of a pink BADASS makes me want to do it even more, and it honestly probably just pushed me over the edge here. I ain't kidding. In the least. <dontknow> <lmao>
  24. That's what I'm thinking, right there. poop, after seeing pics, it's obvious. One phone call to Clint, and you're pulling the trigger at the range. Everything else is already done (I didn't know it was that far built already), and you're only a barrel and matched bolt away. Parts in stock, delivered to you mid-week next week, and next weekend on the scope zero shoot-fest... What's not to like?! <dontknow> Tell you what, Matt. God's honest truth here, brother. Just go ahead and buy the Fulton 18.5" MW NM 1:10 twist barrel with matched bolt. Build Goldilocks with it, for now... Once you get it and you're shooting, if you deem that combo "not worthy" for movement to another build, I'll buy it off you for what you have in it, shipped to you, and you can add the shipping to me to the cost I'd pay you for it. In that regard, you wouldn't even be out one penny. <thumbsup> I'll do that for this build, for you. Your risk is nothing, eventually, if it's not what you're really looking for. Sweet deal, brother. If that's one of the proprietary Armalite gas systems (lengths), I'd never do it, based on "options." I hope Uncle Armalite is reading this, too. This is only my opinion, and has nothing to do with the view of the people that run this board - this is all me. I don't want something I can't replace easily. Working .308 AR guns from multiple manufacturers can make standard AR-15 gas tubes work on a .308 Win firing-and-chambered semi-auto rifle, and I can get those parts literally anywhere. I can raid them off one of my own guns, if I need to; I can raid them off someone else's gun, if I need to. I have a common source to keep the gun running - I don't have to rely upon one manufacturer, or one single supplier or source, should I have a gas system failure (gas tube failure, specifically). This is also the reason I'll never own a RRA .308. No way, no how. If Armalite used standard gas tubes and gas systems, I already would have bought or built one, but I won't use one that has anything "out of the norm" of proprietary on it. I just don't have enough sources to fix it myself. <dontknow> My $0.02 - and only mine.
  25. It's gonna be a standard AR-15 midlength gas tube (approx. 9.5"). If Noveske is really doing this, then they're the only ones doing it. Noveske is also primarily Armalite components, and Armalite gas systems are slightly different from "the norm" anyway. Don't get wrapped around the axle over this gas tube/gas system stuff, guys.
