That one has a pinned and welded YHM Phantom on it, bringing it out to 16.1 inches. I did that myself, and didn't send it out anywhere. I'll keep track of the new SBR build timeline and details, and it'll definitely get documented in a thread. I'm already planning on getting a pistol receiver extension for it, so I don't have to wait to shoot it. As soon as the Form 1 comes back approved, I'll change out the parts and put the stock on it. I was surprised at how the spray came out - I like it. I had to take the pics on my FDE kitchen floor - that kitchen tiling project took me longer to complete than three rifle builds... :o <lmao>

Armalite AR-10 in .338 Federal
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in AR-10 General, Technical Discussion
No worries at all, man, none whatsoever. Absolutely pleased to have you here! <thumbsup> -
The new MagPul AFG 2 is available at both Midway and Bravo Company now - colors available right now (as of 23 Sep 10) are: Black. Not only is it the original AFG-minus-the-wings, but it's a little dimensionally different. Check the pics:

I've already decided to paint the SBR, so as a "practice run," I painted my 14.5" gun. Ripped it all apart a few days ago, shot it, and just put it back together after everything was mostly cured/dried. The SBR might get this same treatment, which is Krylon Khaki, or it might get some DuraCoat, in the Magpul FDE color. Here's the 14.5" now, in Krylon Khaki:

$400 for the upper and lower receivers, as a set?

VERY nice!!! <thumbsup> You were absolutely right, too - I love this rail. ;D

35~40 inch pounds, just like it's little brother. <thumbsup>

Very nice setup. <thumbsup>

The typical .308-specific carbine buffer and spring can be used. Don't try to use a 5.56-specific carbine buffer or spring. That wouldn't work well.

Gotta be talking about the "new follower" that was fielded last year - direct ripoff of the MagPul Enhanced Follower, except it switched the hump on the top of the follower. Which in turn, switched the position of the last round in the mag. For years - hell, forever - you load up a 20 or 30-round mag and the last round is on the right. The new follower puts the 30th round on the left now. Stupid idea, but it's what they used to get around copyright infringement on MagPul's follower. Idiots should have just contracted MagPul for the followers. It would have saved precious "R&D time," and been a hell of alot cheaper in the long run. <dontknow>

New Remington RSASS. It's really just a Remington-badged JP Rifles 7.62 gun, but it does look nice. <thumbsup> Read all about it: http://thetruthaboutguns.com/2010/09/robert-farago/rsass-remington-semi-auto-sniper-system-revealed-ish/ EDIT - Looks like they didn't like me hot-linking their pic. I'll straight upload it...

So, there's a plan to upgrade some infantry M4s to the M4A1 config in this article, and further develop/field a new carbine sometime around 2012... http://www.armytimes.com/news/2010/08/army-seeks-better-carbine-082810w/ The plot thickens... <thumbsup>

From Impact Guns, no less. Not bad. Worth a call to find out what they're dealing, because the pic was pf the base model, Mossberg barrel. I'll check them out, even though I usually run from them. :o <thumbsup>

Mega Machine .308 upper and lower
98Z5V replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
Stickman put one together. Other than that, I have nothing else to say. Speechless... :P -
Oooooh yeah. In fact, I meant to post an Army Times article about the M4 - something about "Making The M4 Deadlier," or similar title. In that article, they're talking about the Army opening the contract for a new carbine in 2012... We all wondered and discussed about that with the SCAR 16 SOCOM piece. <thumbsup> I'll get that article included in that thread.

Backward compatible with 5.56 uppers... Hmmmm... ???
-
Drew, I know LaRue is making 10-round 7.62 Pmags now, and the price is good. I'm not sure if they make the same thing for the 5.56, though. Worth a look. You know the customer service, shipping, and everything else would be fantastic through them. <thumbsup>

Update to this one - Spike's Tactical can be a source for uppers and lowers in the white, but that's not guaranteed... Now, here's how I'll quantify this one... When I was waiting on my billet upper and lower from them, they asked if I was "the one waiting for the set in the white." I said Nope, not me. Now, I'm not sure if they can get a set (or separate pieces) of the forged parts in the white, but it's a possibility for sure for the billet set. If anyone really wants an upper or lower (or both) in the white, then it would definitely be worth a phone call to Spike's. Forged, billet, whatever. They do everything they can for their customers. <thumbsup> Psssst. They're working on a .308 set, too. Sometime in the future, it'll happen... ;D

When's your trip? I can call up DNP and have him send you some in a care package - he's got plenty of them. <thumbsup>

Ran the individual targets through the On Target Precision Calculator to come up with the numbers. I'm not so sure these numbers are correct, because I had to enlarge the picture - something just didn't seem right when I ran it this time. I'll double check everything and see what's going on. Here's the data: Here's the sweet little range that I love shooting on - it's part of public land and run by the wildlife management area. It's completely 100% free to use, and goes out to 100 yards. There's only 6 shooting lanes, but each one is very nice - the whole facility is very nice. <thumbsup> There's never a dedicated Range Master there; everyone just kinda polices themselves. Freedom. ;D Overhead walls, to keep people from shooting high, over the range boundaries - looks low, but all targets are visible underneath it, easily. Each shooting position also has a little wooden awning for shade. Sweet. That's the 14.5" gun in the sled, zeroing the EoTech. The Fat Bastard, in the sled: The ones waiting in the rack for that day - 14.5" gun on the right, Spike's billet 16" on the left:

Update on this one - Took it out last Tuesday (Sep 7th) for the barrel breakin and initial sight zero. I knew with the 1:8 twist barrel that I'd need some ammo in the 68 grain range, so I'd stocked up months prior. I had some 69gr Prvi Partizan Match and some Ultramax 68gr Match HPBT ready to go. Alright, last week. Did the zero at 25 yards on the MBUS front/rear, and on the Millet DMS-1. I put the first 20 rounds through it using the Tubb Final Finish ammo. Interestingly enough, that stuff is too long to mag load, so I loaded each one by hand, through the ejection port door. Shoot 5, clean the barrel, just like the back of the box says. Worked well, and the barrel shoots well, but I can't say what it would have shot like with or without the Final Finish. I'm happy with the stuff because the barrel IS shooting well - but I can't say how it would have shot without it. The stuff went through... <thumbsup> Did all the zero work with PMC Bronze ammo. Flash forward to this Tuesday (Sep 14th). I took it back out and rezeroed for 50 yards, irons and scope. Used the PMC Bronze again. You'll see those 3 shot groups circled in red on the target below. Next up, I loaded 5 rounds of M855 62 grain penetrator. I figured the way the barrel was handling the 55 grain stuff, the 62 grain penetrators would work pretty well - wrong. That barrel and that ammo don't work well together. My hopes were down... >:( Next up - hell with it, right? 10 rounds of the PPU 69 grain. WooHoo!!! Liked it. then 10 rounds of the Ultramax 68 grain HPBTs. Right on! Last was 10 rounds of the Black Hills Match 77 grain HPBTs. I kinda thought the 68-range of ammo would be better, but the Black Hills is, well, great stuff. Target below.

I've never heard of that 20mm recoilless rifle before - pretty cool! I shot the 90mm RR plenty of times. That thing will rattle your teeth, stop your heart, AND detach your testicles from your body - just from the concussion. :o I've fired ONE ROUND through the 106mm RR. Holy Chit. Damn thing has a .50 Cal mounted on it for a spotter gun/spotter round. You don't know it when you shoot it - you have to see somebody else shooting it - but the "recoilless" fireball curves around and swallows you and the assistant gunner right up. Once was enough. ??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUxTM5EB7r0

VERY nice purchase!!! <thumbsup> It always makes me happy to see someone get a new Kimber. ;D That Tactical LE II is ALOT like my Desert Warrior - I think you're really gonna like that hand cannon.

I can cure that one morning next week, and try it again... <lmao> <laughs>

It sure seemed like it. <dontknow> I shot two 10-round groups at 100 using some Ultramax 168 HPBT rounds. They came in pretty good. I figured I was ready to tear into the other stuff, so I commenced shootin'. About 1/3 into it, I was asking myself WTF was goin' on... :(
