BATFE Revises Policies on Firearms "Transfers"
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
Another step in the maze - this stuff only pertains to business transfers - manufacturers shipping firearms to businesses that will sell those firearms to an individual (or manufacturer-to-distributor, then "transfer" again from distributor-to-vendor). Complicating the process, IMHO. They don't want any "gaps" in the paperwork, from manufacturer all the way down to the final "real transfer." Paper trail, almost like a "chain of custody" document for eviddence... IMHO... It's hard to tell what the "interpretation" will be on this when it comes to shipping a broken or defective firearm BACK to the manufacturer - think it will require another "transfer" just to get your stuff worked on? Ridiculous... >:( -
Wow! That is indeed in mint shape! Very nice find.

The difference is in the leade - distance from case mouth to where the rifling start in the barrel. I've got the numbers buried in my computer somewhere, so I'll try to find them. I've got tons of articles saved on the differences between the .223 Rem ammunition versus the 5.56mm NATO ammunition, and the exact measurements are listed in one of those articles. Wading through them will take me a little bit. Hopefully, somebody beats me to this one... <laughs> <thumbsup> Another factor to consider for chambers is the .223 Wylde. It's a hybrid between .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO measurements/differences. It's the "all-around" chamber; safe for 5.56 pressures, shoots both, more accurate than both. Be advised - to measure the differences in the leades, you'll need some precision measuring gear. I'm not even sure a "standard" 6" digital caliper (with depth gauge) would be sufficient to get into the chamber, from the back of the upper receiver. <dontknow> EDIT - the barrel should be marked somewhere - most obvious place is in front of the front sight post location / gas block location. If it's not there (obviously not, in this case), have him look under the handguards somewhere. I know for a fact that Colt puts some of their barrel-specific markings under the handguards (date stamp of production for the 14.5" heavy SOCOM barrels is under the guards).

Very nice boomstick! Had that beast out to the range yet? If you haven't, then I have to give you a warning - it'll make you ignore all your other guns... <laughs>
-
Haha! "No Pay" is the lowest pay you could give us! <munch> <laughs> Nah, it's fun being here... So... let's see the Fulton!
-
Yep, you know it. <thumbsup> imschur is HARD to work for, and gives us no breaks. Working late hours, weekends, low pay... no slack. <lmao> Wait 'til you see what he's making me do in the next few weeks, man - it's just not right... <laughs> Back to your warm welcome, though - you'll notice there's no shortage of smartarses here. <dontknow> ;D

Larue OSR Reborn Larue OBR Optimized Battle Rifle
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in Larue OBR (Formerly OSR)
That sounds like a very sweet setup, man... PICS, PICS, PICS!!! <laughs> I can't wait to start seeing some results of the OBR 5.56, too - that's gonna be another winner, right out of the box. <thumbsup> -
Welcome! Enter the fray... <lmao> <thumbsup>

I'll definitely try one, if you guys a providing one to test. No joke. I'll build another upper around it just to shoot it - but I'm not going to change the upper I have on that gun right now, man. That thing is workin' for me. ;D What is your barrel shooting in a 10-shot group? I'd shoot one of your barrels for a test, and buy the thing if I can make it work, but right now I just can't buy another barrel to replace something that's doing it's job. If I could find a big difference in what I'm getting now, I'd find a way to "justify" another build around it - for sure. <thumbsup>

Battle Arms Development Ambi Selector Switch
98Z5V replied to 98Z5V's topic in Battle Arms Development - Terminated
Pic of the bare machined levers, not quite finished. They started from that piece of bar stock. Completed levers, unfinished: [img width=810 height=792]http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i314/Duffypoo/untitled5.jpg Animation of the combinations: Exploded view of all the parts: [img width=810 height=385]http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i314/Duffypoo/exploded.jpg Assembly animation: -
Picked up an interesting accessory for the 5.56 gun I'm building right now - The Battle Arms Development Ambi Selector Switch - yes, they did give it the acronym "BAD-ASS"... This is produced and marketed as a selector switch for both the AR-15 and AR-10 platforms, and I think it'll do well on both. Here are the specs on the device: •Precision Machined from 12L14 Solid Bar Stock & Round Stock Steel •Heat Treated to Rockwell Hardness of 48-52 •Manganese Phosphate Finish in Matte Black & Oil Treated •Aggressive Diagonal Grooves on Levers for Positive Grip •Single Parallel Fluting on Face of Lever Provides Additional Grip & also Saves Weight •(2) Indicator "V-Grooves" at Tip of Pivot & at Face of Lever - can be filled with high visibility paint for easy identification •100% Made in USA •Patent Pending It comes with three interchangeable levers, wide long, wide short, thin long, and you can configure it any way you want. I've got this one setup with the wide long on the left side and wide short on the right side. Once I finally complete this gun, I'll give more feedback on the performance of the levers. Never before have I thought about a selector lever as a "performance item," but I sure do now. This is very, very well made, both in materials, CNC cutting, and looks. Anyone interested can check them out here: http://shop.battlearmsdevelopment.com/main.sc Price might seem a little steep, but for what you're getting, and what you can do with it, it's not too bad. <thumbsup>

On Target Precision Calculator. That sucker is free, right here: <thumbsup> ;D http://www.ontargetshooting.com/

0.9 MOA from a YHM 20" CMV 1:7 barrel throwing Black Hills 77gr BTHP Match - flung 2 out of 10 out to the side; that's on me. I'll have a nice shooting 16" Wilson/Nordic SS 1:8 barreled build in a few more weeks that I'll be trying out. Here's the 20:

Tell me about it... :o <laughs>

I bought one of them - provided he hasn't sold the second one, it's probably still available. Shoot him a PM about it and he'll get right back with ya. <thumbsup>

Chillin' out with family. Grilled yesterday, hit the streets on the big bike today (went to Cabela's in Wheeling again - more ammo purchased... <laughs>), and checked out a 400-yd rifle range today, parades tomorrow - love the Memorial Day parades around here. The weekend is about me, this time. <thumbsup> Edit - wargaming with DNP about flying out to San Diego and ripping the roof off his house, too... <lmao>

Who are you looking at as the supplier? If it's a Fulton chrome bolt carrier, complete, I'm in. <thumbsup> ;D

Trying to decide on an upper
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Not yet, man - I keep waiting for that. ;D I do like their lower. <thumbsup> -
My $0.02 on it - what I'd want in my hands (I'm still talking about Afghanistan, here). SR-25 EM Carbine or a Noveske N6 14.5" or Leonidas, packing nothing but M118LR in LR Pmags (for the SR-25 EMC). The SR-25 is in the system, but the Noveskes aren't - I still put them up there as a choice, because they run and they're accurate. Quality guns that you don't have to mess with, run, and you don't have to worry about for the most part. M118LR because it's in the system. Heavy round that runs well out of those guns/twist rates on those barrels. LR Pmags because they're strong, don't dent, and are very easy to take apart and clean - that's important. That place is rocky, and everything over there is sharp. My GI 5.56 mags got beat up pretty good; some were worthless after taking a beating. Can't run the Pmags through the Noveske rifles I know, but those two guns are still a 2nd place choice - either one of them. SR-25 EMC is definitely my first choice.

Do all Titan barrels have a threaded muzzle?
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in Fulton Armory Titan
Best way to find out is to call the shop and talk to Clint. They might have one or two that aren't threaded, but I don't recall seeing any non-threaded barrels on their site before. Dunno, though... <dontknow> :D Edit - Clint "night not be in right now" when you call. He'll talk to customers, and he's real nice. If he's busy building guns for customers, he likes to keep doing that - building the guns. I'm just sayin'... -
Drew, I'm back in business for a range - found something that's only about 5 miles from the house, and the rifle range on it goes out to 400 yards. <thumbsup> I'll probably talk to you about it in a little while. I'm going to check it out this weekend, and put down some rounds with the 20" 5.56 gun, and maybe the .308 bolt. <dontknow>

I did a Google search on "338LM F&D Defense," and I only got 4 hits. Two of those hits were from you posting this same question on two other forums. Quite honestly, I've never heard of F&D Defense before, and the first time I saw there webpage was from a link you posted on XDTalk. Looks interesting, but I know nothing about them or their stuff.
