  1. ^^^ <lmao> <laughs> Here are two more very good articles about barrel length (not SWshooter's barrel length... :o ): http://www.sniperschool.com/sniper-rifle-barrel-length http://www.sniperschool.com/barrel-length-revisited
  2. For the life of me, I cannot find an online reference for this anywhere - hell, I can't even find an online pic of the current magazine cover... >:( It's the Guns & Ammo annual pub, Book Of The AR-15, **display until August 24, 2010** for the retailers - it should be out there at news stands and retailers now. Black cover, "AR-15" title in silver, highlighted type in small orange print. The title of the article is "The Truth About Carbon Barrels." It's a 5-page article with 4 full pages of text, starting on pg 104. Main story section headers are "Why Carbon?"; "Why ABS?"; "A Solid Foundation"; "The Carbon Carbine"; "Putting It To The Test"; and "The Bottom Line." Very informative article, and worth the $8.99 news stand buying price just for the carbon barrel info provided. <thumbsup>
  3. Wow, we're developing quite the Midwest Mafia here! Welcome aboard, man! <thumbsup>
  4. Maaaaaaan, I put that trigger in today, bandit... WOW!!! Took me about an hour to set it all up, but it is SWEET! I've got a 1.5lb trigger in my bolt gun, and this 2lb trigger feels better than that one. Unreal improvement. <thumbsup> Thanks a TON for selling me this thing.
  5. <lmao> I'm trying to slow down, man - I can't keep going like this... :o <laughs> The one I'm building now will be the last for awhile, and I'll be saving for something big, BIG bore. It'll be chambered in .338LM for sure. <thumbsup> On a side note, I pulled 200 pieces of 5.56 brass out of the tumbler last night, and 100 pieces of .308 out this morning. I'm starting already. I'll be loading some 5.56 with Hornady 75gr HPTB Match and Sierra 69gr HPBT Match as a start. ;D
  6. That's even more impressive, right there! Very cool!
  7. Once I find the mag, I'll search on the article title and see if it's online anywhere. I'll find that today. It's a great article on the barrels, and basically says there's two types of carbon wrap - the old way (years ago, first technology) and the new way. The old way wasn't very effective due to the type of carbon fiber used, and it heated up the barrel, didn't last long, cracked, etc. The new way uses more heat resistant, advanced carbon fiber material and design, and is quite effective. <thumbsup>
  8. Awesome, man - I know they're good people. I was just checking on the shipping online from them, nothing more, and I had to add the item to my cart and start checkout. The only shipping options they had in the dropdown shipping menu was UPS, which I completely understand. I'm a firm believer that it's always better to call a company on the phone and talk to a human, so I figured they'd do that (USPS) for a customer, considering it's such a small item. <thumbsup>
  9. I just read a pretty good writeup about them in a mag - I'll dig the info out and try to post it.
  10. <lmao> <laughs>
  11. They mail it to you via USPS? I'm going to get a couple to replace mine, just because, but I'm not paying $12 UPS to get $12 in parts. My DPMS screw isn't broken, but I'm not going to wait for it to break, either... Big fat POS... :( On a side note, have any of you guys seen the recent posts (on other boards) of the "people" that got a custom AR-15 lower built? They're praising the "genious" of the lower manufacturer for using the same damn bolt catch screw on their 15 lower - like the guy invented it or something. It's annoying, to say the least... >:(
  12. Auction ended, but it's relisted, and expires in 7 days (about 9pm EST, 23 June 10)... Here's the relist: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=174656422
  13. Good article, dirigo. Thanks for passing that on. You won't see anything like that aired on the popular news networks.
  14. Laaaaaast really good price I've seen on it, brother - was that link you sent me... <thumbsup> <laughs>
  15. THE ROCK CRUSHER SUPREME IS MIIIIIIINE!!! <lmao> <laughs> Got quite the surprise at the store, too - When I first got in there, I asked a kid at a counter if they had any Father's Day sales that might be coming up this weekend ('cause I'll wait for a few more bucks <thumbsup>). He said the only thing going on was what the June sale already was. Hell with it, it's $305 so I'll just get it now. Remember, I figured about $30 in tax on that, which would cancel out UPS'ing 30lbs of kit from an online retailer, so... I get to the register, it rings up, total is $299.59 OTD - the thing was already $30 off for this month's sale. ;D Score... I man-handled that M98B, too - I was completely shocked at what it doesn't weigh... Looks like a 25lb gun in person, but I'll be damned if it's even 13lbs with an empty mag in it. The pricetag on it was $4,495, though... :o
  16. I lived in Monterey in '86-'87, then again from '89-'91. Loved it, great place. Everytime I'd go back to visit later, it just sucked to see how much the whole state had changed... Now, I have no desire at all to get back there, unless it's to visit DNP.
  17. Lynx, sorry to hear about your jacked up barrel fiasco. That's not right, man... By all means, talk about those works ups - I'm trying to soak up as much as I can about reloading and load development, since I'm getting into that myself now. It's all good stuff. <thumbsup> Actually, I have had Rabies shots - that's a pretty ugly story, too. All kinds of experimental shots. Hmmm... that might explain alot of me, right there... <lmao> ^^^ All that .338LM stuff is why I'm reloading now, Lynx... :o
  18. Pfffff... I've only got a handful, man. Plus, I can't shoot. <dontknow> <thumbsup> ;D Nah, it just depends how far gone you are with BRD. Sooner or later, you'll be way beyond cure - then you're just resigned to the fact that you've got it - and you're comfortable talking about it... <lmao> <laughs>
  19. I'm running a YHM 7.62 Phantom on mine, but I don't think I've got any close up pics of it. I'll get you a pic in a few days. It adds 2.5" to the overall length of the barrel, so my 18.5" is now 21" overall.
  20. DANG! :o 100 pieces of Lapua brass, Midway, $259... http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=253474 RL25 powder... Some guys on Sniper's Hide working up some pretty hot loads (3000 fps) with it... I'll look up the rest of the stuff.
  21. Based exactly on that ^^^ - price per round - I'm looking at the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading Kit... Found it at the same place that had the Barrett, and they had it stickered for $305. From searching on the 'net, that's a pretty good price. I'll have to pay sales tax on it, but I'd have to pay shipping on it if I went with an online sale. The thing weighs 30lbs, so I'm pretty sure I don't want to pay shipping... ;D
  22. I did handle a Barrett M98B today... <thumbsup> ;D I'll go back and get some "Proof of Life" on the thing. <laughs>
  23. Hey, we can roll that way, no problem. <thumbsup> <laughs> Every once in awhile I have this discussion: "Self, ya really think there's someone else out there named "Self?!" When I look in the mirror, I know it's true... Worries me, but I deal with it... <lmao>
  24. btt - Wiped out my old "Midway Sale" post and changed/edited it up - less cluttered on the board that way. ;D
  25. I'm still laughing (loudly) right now... seriously... <thumbsup>
