  1. Personally, I don't think a 6-anything would gain any widespread use in the military - too much resistance to change, too much money wrapped up in ammo that's already in warehouses. No joke. Use in a few specialized units? Sure. <thumbsup> I had Mk262 in all my mags over there, just for the M4. I sure as hell wish I had the SR-25 instead, though. Too much distance over there, in the mountains. 5.56 wasn't the ideal round. 7.62 will get it done, in almost all the mountainous regions.
  2. That's my dream upper and lower, Spook, and that's a damn fine looking build. <thumbsup>
  3. No worries, man - no JB Weld and that mess, either. Little tap and a set screw to hold the spring in - many of us do that to all our ARs for the rear takedown pin, be it 15s or 308s. All 5 of mine are done, and so will the 6th, in a few more weeks. <thumbsup>
  4. As Staff Photographer, isn't he suposed to send you all that stuff? You know, for the photography? <thumbsup> It would take "several weeks" to set up for the specific shots, I know. ;D <munch> <laughs>
  5. You should have registered here before you tried to put the Magpul parts on your newest LR308 - here's a pic of my lower, with a MIAD: You can put any grip made for an AR-15 onto a DPMS 308 lower - probably any other 308 lower. <thumbsup> Here's a thread from the DPMS Technical section here, outlining the mod: http://308ar.com/forum/index.php/topic,74.0.html
  6. Welcome aboard, man! <thumbsup>
  7. Drew, they just released the rifle-length upper - $624 at Rainier Arms... ;D Combine that bad boy with this one for a perfect match: Save a few bucks on the build by going with this barrel: ($185 from Nordic Components, shipped) http://shop.nordiccomp.com/Wilson-Nordic-AR-Rifle-Barrel-Stainless-16-BBL-223-16M-WIL.htm That would be one unique, sweet stick. <thumbsup> <laughs>
  8. SWFA will price match anything they carry, if you find it cheaper someplace else, too. There's a pretty detailed form on their website to ask for a price match. Fill all that stuff in, and they'll send it to you for whatever you find it for - including matching the shipping from the cheaper place. <thumbsup>
  9. I'm diggin' the custom serial number on that Caspian. <thumbsup> I'm just diggin' both the Caspians. ;D
  10. Fully functional, even though it looks like it won't do anything. The bolt is going to ram home on almost anything, and if it doesn't fully close, it'll be at the very last few millimeters of travel (unless you've got a serious problem or stoppage). The forward assist catches the shoulder machined in the bolt carrier, and fully seats the bolt. You can see the machining in the pic below - that area where the bolt carrier is smaller, then gets larger. The forward assist catches that and seats the bolt in the barrel extension. Again, unless there's something else going on. You can't "walk it in" like you can with the notches on an AR-15 carrier.
  11. seagiant, any pistol grip that will work on any AR-15 will work on your DPMS 308 lower. <thumbsup>
  12. I just seached high and low for the best price I could get on this scope, and I pulled it for $199.95 at SWFA. The one at Midway has been $214 for a few weeks - at least as long as I was seaching prices. Just a heads up - hate to see someone spend another $15 that could go towards ammo... ;D http://swfa.com/Millett-1-4x24-DMS-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P9251.aspx This is what I actually ordered from SWFA - the scope and the Burris PEPR mount for $265.95: http://swfa.com/Millett-1-4x24-DMS-PEPR-Combo-P42148.aspx
  13. You won't see what the .mil/LEO discount is until you get registered with them - it doesn't even show up until you do that. It's completely unadvertised until they have you in the system. Once they've got you in there, every item on the site shows the regular price, what they sell it for (less), then what you get it for as .mil/LEO (even less again)... <thumbsup>
  14. 1.758" top of lug to top of lug across, and 1.663" in the troughs between the lugs. <thumbsup> Scrolling marquee? What are you guys talking about?... <dontknow> :o
  15. You have nice hands, Matt. <thumbsup> Not being gay in anyway, but this article wouldn't be nearly as good if you had those great big, skinned up, nasty gorilla hands in all the pics. <lmao> Good work, man. Also, I like that your bottle of Anti-Seize looks well used... That says alot about a guy, right there. <thumbsup> <dontknow> ;D Good stuff, man, good stuff.
  16. DSG Arms is different than the DS Arms (FAL guys) - DSG is Defense Solutions Group, out of Texas. They do alot of contract fulfillment to the military, and they sell excess to the public, through the "DSG Arms" side of the business. They have a substantial military and law enforcement discount, once you get verified with them. <thumbsup> I haven't gotten off my butt and done anything with Botach Defense yet (and I need to), but from a few discounted items I've seen from them, they're a little better than DSG Arms on some things. It's all hit or miss between the two, as far as "best price" goes. It's almost like it's item by item, but one of those two companies will probably have the best price on stuff you're looking for. Botach Defense beats DSG on the PRS stock. I grabbed my UBR stock through DSG and it was $199. ;D
  17. Jgun, you don't have the limitation of sticking with a direct DPMS upper, but a "DPMS-style" upper - you have choices in a few fine upper receivers that are DPMS-compatible. By all means, the cheapest way to mock the gun up and get it functional is with the purchase of a stripped, genuine DPMS upper, and going from there. Once you've got it mapped out and know it fits, then you have choices. A DPMS-compatible Iron Ridge upper would drop onto that POF lower just like the DPMS part would. You've got options, man. <thumbsup> That POF lower is a high quality part - I wouldn't necessarily dump it in order to move to something else, unless you just want it to be a matched set. If you stick with DPMS, then a word of caution: DPMS has changed the height of their flat top upper (the newest version). The only rail that would be compatible with that specific height on the upper would be one from... yep. DPMS. Based on that very thing alone, I wouldn't take a chance on purchasing a DPMS branded upper for this (your) build. You don't know what you'll receive from any certain vendor. Fulton Armory could be your saving grace on that - Clint at Fulton has DPMS make his uppers and lowers - to his specs. The Fulton Armory branded upper will fit all "other" rails out there right now. <thumbsup> I'm sure I'll think of more later.
  18. Nooooo problem. Once you get it, you've always got a couple options at your disposal, should you have the need - you'll be pretty close on the LOP max of that stock, so if you need more, you can get that extra 0.5" by ordering/installing the optional thicker buttpad. That would do it. Be careful on that, though - Magpul makes a thicker "enhanced" buttpad that works on the other stocks (ACS, MOE, CTR, UBR), but that one won't work on the PRS. You'd need the one specific to the PRS. The other option you'll have is: If you can't make that stock work for anything, someone here will buy it from you. <thumbsup> ;D There's a thread in a section at the bottom of the message board that lists a pretty killer deal on the PRS, something just over $160 for it. If you're .mil or LEO, you can get it from DSG Arms for $178.
  19. HAHA!!! <laughs> That is a possibility! It'll be sometime in the first few weeks of June before I find out, but I'll line it up on an adjacent target with the (boxed) Prvi Match 75gr - I think I've still got 80 rounds of that, loaded in mags. Side-by-side comparo.
  20. First, the rail type won't have anything to do with the barrel extension - don't sweat that in any configuration; the barrel extension has to be compatible with the bolt, though. I highly doubt the KAC rail for the SR-25 will mount to the DPMS upper - but I've never removed or installed a KAC SR-25/M110 rail on anything before. The basic design of the M110 is an Armalite pattern, with the exception of the mag style (DPMS) that the lower takes. The Armalite AR-10 and DPMS LR-308 upper receiver threading is different, and I'm betting the KAC rifles use the Armalite threading pattern, and not the DPMS. Additionally, Armalite and DPMS stock barrel nut outer dimensions are different, so you wouldn't be able to use a DPMS barrel nut and make that rail fit your gun. I was shooting for a smiliar look on my DPMS rifle, and ended up using a Troy MRF-308 rail - that was as close as I could get. That rail comes with it's own barrel nut that is basically an Armalite nut on the outside, but threaded for the DPMS upper receiver. Getting that particular barrel nut (the Troy) to work won't even be a guarantee, unless you know for sure that the KAC M110 rail uses a stock Armalite barrel nut. Hope that helps.

  22. I've been wanting to try out some Wolf Gold ammo for awhile now (their match ammo), but not bad enough to order it online and pay for shipping. Well, I found some at Cabela's (Wheeling store) last week when driving past. I've read all kind of postings on the 'net about it, from one extreme to the other - "It's junk like all other Wolf, and runs like crap; not accurate," to quite the opposite of "Great stuff, not like other Wolf; most accurate stuff I've shot." Hmmm... <dontknow> When I saw it on the retail shelf for $7.99 per box of 20, it went in the cart. It's brass cased, boxer primed (non-corrosive), and it uses real hollow point boat-tail bullets. I picked up a box of the 75gr Match. I also grabbed a few boxes of Prvi Partizan 69gr Match at $8.99 per 20. Monetarily, it doesn't get any better than that for match ammo. Much to my surprise, I looked it over really well once I got home - and the case markings are "PPU." Hmmm, that's Prvi Partizan's case markings. <dontknow> Looked on the back of the box, and sure enough it's got PPU's symbol, and "Made in Serbia" right on the back of the box. I don't know if any of you guys knew Prvi made that stuff for Wolf, but I sure didn't. Kinda dispells what I've seen on the 'net about it being crap ammo, because I shoot Prvi Match when I can find it, and it's pretty good stuff. Just passing along what I found out - might be old news to some, and new news to others. It shocked me... ;D (These are Plus-Sized pics, for those with bad eyes - just click them and they'll get huge... <laughs>)
  23. Absolutely, man. <thumbsup> Windage knob and cap, with included "Daily Max" spare CR2032 battery: Elevation knob: Eyepiece markings on scope: This scope is marked "Made in China" on the bottom of it, and I wouldn't be surprised if these two are identical. Probably even the same batteries, which would certainly be a dead giveaway.
  24. BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!! <lmao> <laughs> Don't think for a second that I missed that little tag line under your avatar, man... <dontknow> <lmao> You guys are out to GET me... :o Here's something on the DMS-1 that I really like - the brightness settings go all the way to eleven, just like Nigel Tufnel's amp. (little bit of Spinal Tap humor built right into it... <lmao>). The Donut-Dot is sweet, too. You can't see it due to my crappy pics, but there's a little 1 MOA dot in the center of the circle. All three pics are on 1x for the magnification. Lots of guys were saying the donut-dot washes out in bright sunlight, and it does - but it's gotta be pretty bright to wash it out. When it washes out, it appears black through the scope, so it's kind of a moot point if it does wash out when bright - you can still sight it when it's that bright. These two pics are of the scope on, and off, just sighted on the same object. When off, it's a black donut-dot (just like when it washes out). Still easy to use. I think I'm really gonna like this scope once I get the chance to shoot it. I like it already, but it'll be a rough couple of extra weeks until I can blast it... :o
  25. Draco, I opened that link right after you posted it... ...and I've been afraid to come back to this thread ever since... <dontknow> <laughs> Not while I've still got one to finish - I don't need to be drooling over that thing, man. ;D Nah, just been busy lately. Update pics, for now, and my sad, sad progress. I haven't been picking up the smaller parts until the major stuff is in, just so it won't drive me absolutely crazy. My billet upper and lower will be here in about 10 days, and my rail will be in at about the same time. In about a week, I'll go batshit crazy and gather up everything else, so I'll probably be shooting it at the beginning of June. Hopefully. The optic did come in, and since the gun will be a 16" midlength, I stuck the optic on the Little Woman's mini-boomstick just to mock it up and get it set in the mount correctly. It's a Millett DMS-1 in a Burris PEPR mount - and I'm impressed. <thumbsup> Clears the Magpul rear sight just fine, mounts solid and semi-repeatable (I'll be testing that, too), and I'm really liking the illuminated Millett "donut-dot" setup. It's a 1 -4x, and on 1x, it's got some parralax - the front sight fuzzes out on you. I might be able to tune some of that out with the focus ring, we'll see. Had the chance to hit up a Cabela's (Wheeling, WV) recently, and nailed some ammo to use in the new middie. Since it's a 1:8 twist barrel, and supposed to be pretty accurate, I was looking for specific rounds. I got extremely lucky on one of them, and did pretty good on the other stuff. All of this ammo is something I was looking for in order to do some accuracy testing out of my 20: 1:7 YHM precision gun anyway, so it'll do some double-duty through the new one, too. <thumbsup> Found a box of Tubbs loaded Final Finish, which is 10 rounds of the #1 FF rounds and 10 rounds of the #2s. These will be first through the new baarrel. Found some Wolf Gold 75gr Match HPBT (only 20 rounds on the shelf), 50 rounds of Ultramax reloaded 75gr Heavy Match hollow points, 50 round of Ultramax 68gr hollow points, and 60 rounds of Prvi Partizan 69gr Match HPBT. Oh, and a full box of Black Hills Mk262... It was the only box they had on the shelf, and I had them check for more - if there was more, I would have backed the truck up to the door... <thumbsup>
