I have alot of bolt guns. There are only 2 of them that are NOT mag fed. One is a single-shot ;22LR I inherited from my grandfather. The other is a Kimber .308 Win bolt gun, from Clackamas, OR manufacture - I'll never fuk with that bolt gun. All the others - if they didn't take mags - they did after I acquired them - converted. So, PILE of bolt guns. Then, there's ARs. Last time I counted, I was loading ARs for 13 different calibers - that might be different now, as I missed my last semi-annual inspection. Just skipped it. That's just calibers - not specific firearms, IN that caliber. And that's just the ARs. Shotties and pistols not included. It's a mess around here, keeping it straight. I buy mags by the lot number, not the case. Per caliber. It gets hectic sometimes.

According to the article - the embedded vid... "36 weapons..." I stopped it at that. Those are amateurs. They might have a 3-level container-setup. 36 weapons... Fucking beginners.

OP, Get that ^^^, and run it. You'll have to cut that vented screw down in length, because you won't be using the spacer, but that's no big deal. The rest of the parts will work fine with the stock you'll be running. If you want to run a carbine recoil system, and a call to Armalite doesn't do the trick, then post up in here. I'll help you gather the appropriate parts to piece together a fail-proof recoil system.

I don't do PP anymore, but I'll take it. Let's figure it out. I can send green dollar bills in a mailed envelope, and wait for it to clear, if that works. Lemme know.

DPMS G2 Recon - Bad Ammo?
98Z5V replied to ImpliedConsent's topic in DPMS Panther Arms LR-308 | Bushmaster 308
Looking back on this now, lets just fix your gun. I didn't notice this one you mentioned in 2020. Bet it wasn't that much over-gassed. Just grossly under-recoiled. From a weakass recoil system that should never been marketed. Lets fix your gun. Spill details on all that DPMS G2 goodness. Recoil system specifics are what's requested. -
That Faxon should shoot better than 1.6 MOA - there's gotta be something else. Shooting glasses matter, so does time. Those are both things you've listed - it makes a difference. There's gotta be something else holding it back. Might simply be ammo, but it's something.

Looks like the reticle for this is designed for 55gr up to 62gr projectiles - and there's a BIG difference in the performance of those two projectiles. Wouldn't be any good for the 75gr or 77gr projectiles - it would be way off, at distance. The entire purpose of the reticle is BDC to 600 yards. For 55gr, it might be on. It won't for 62gr. It won't be right for the 68/69gr match ammo available. It'll be far off, if you shoot 75 or 77 grain. I found the info for the reticle from the manual online. https://www.bushnell.com/on/demandware.static/-/Library-Sites-HuntShootAccessoriesSharedLibrary/default/dw8c9325f9/productPdfFiles/AROpticsScopes_all2018models_5LIM-RV0222.pdf

I don't know what it is that's going on, but you were shooting at 100 yards, so a 9x scope's performance isn't bad. Moving to a 14x scope isn't going to improve the performance, at 100 yards. "Barrel whip" on a Faxon Big Gunner barrel isn't the problem, either. If you wanna dump the barrel, I'll buy it. I'll build a whole gun around it, and prove that barrel whip isn't the problem going on here with the groups. How many rounds do you have through the barrel now? I'll take it off your hands, and build another gun from it.

Depending on design, they do work. My favorite combo for years now is a VG6 2-port brake, and add the VG6 CAGE device. It really works, as designed, to alter the concussion from a brake. The VG6 brakes are amazing, by themselves. Add a CAGE, and it's a beautiful combination. Now, the bad news... For some reason, VG6 discontinued the CAGE, and it's no longer available. And THAT SUCKS. Here's video demo from back in the day, of how it really works... I probably have 8 or 9 of the VG6 2-port brakes with CAGEs on them. All kinds of guns. I'd have to get them all out and count to give you an accurate (no shiit) number, but it's right around there. Now, I need another CAGE, based on the brake that I recently bought - and couldn't find one anywhere. Had NO IDEA they killed it, and don't offer it anymore. So, if anyone has a CAGE sitting around, and doesn't use it -I'll pick it up from you...

Not really. Just roll with it. Lay back and let it happen.

Hornady 150gr FMJ-BTs are what I use to load up range ammo in .308 Win. Range-trash, just run it, don't worry about it, and it always does decent. It never completely sucks, ever. I have a thread around here somewhere about using that load to run a 13.5" barreled gun from 100 to 400 yards, with a red dot. Described my holds, and showed the impacts on target. Midsouth has them on sale right now, email came out this morning - I picked up another 500 from this email notification: https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/003503037s/30-caliber-point308-diameter-150-grain-fmj-withcannelure-500-count-sleeve-(5-boxes-of-100-count)?trk_msg=M295AM4N440450H7AJM837Q0V4&trk_contact=8V0L65B89JG3CKL2PPP2IG35AC&trk_sid=FFPR5D0F6AUCT70D9K50Q5I7DK&trk_link=RNENTTBQGQR4V7VU0KT1JPU8GC&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=turn+on+images+to+shop+hornady+308dia+sleeve&utm_campaign=Buy+5+%26+Save+on+This+Hornady+.308+Bullet!

JBM Ballistics has two listings for the Hornady 108gr ELD-Ms - I'll measure some from my boxes tomorrow, and post them... https://www.jbmballistics.com/ballistics/lengths/lengths.shtml#Hornady 0.243 108.0 ELD M (Extremely Low Drag Match) 1.260 0.243 108.0 ELD M (Extremely Low Drag Match) 1.268

Is this what you're looking for? I have 900 projectiles for reloading (108 ELD-Ms), and I can measure a few. The length issue is easy to solve.

Increase accuracy, eliminate the gas rings
98Z5V replied to HotRod308's topic in Accurizing the .308AR
Fuk it. Leave it as it is. It did fine. Let's document it, get pics of your blown out rings, then get a vid of it running like a champ. -
If you can't do it without the tech, then you suck. What are you gonna do when the batteries fail?... Miss. That's the correct answer.

Let's talk about you posting an Intro, first - Thank you! Lots of rude bastards lately just jump in, ask questions, DEMAND info, and think they're ENTITLED to information that's been earned over years of research, work, experimentation, money in ammo and reloading components, etc. We OWE them... That's definitely not the case. So, for your barrel length question, that's really the key part here. What's your purpose or intent for this gun? Tell us what you want it to do. Tell us what you expect it to do for you. Give us the idea that you have in mind for this gun, your own expectations of it, and your desired goal for it. No single gun can do everything - each one has a specific purpose. Some can have multiple roles, and do most of those well. Pitch us your idea of what this gun will give you, and it makes recommendations ALOT easier on our part - and that's where the discussion begins. ^^^ Best advice you'll get, right there. Don't buy anything before you discuss it. My hometown is Zanesville, Oh. Where you at in OH?

...and the gun still runs just fine. I do it, too - just to prove it. -
I think you;ll need north of 0.085" for a 16" midlength. JMHO. 0.070" definitely isn't gonna do it.

KATE!!! @kdawg0124!!! You making the trip next month, woman?!!?

This is exactly what we look like on Shoots out here. Fall Shoot, man.... If you get @edgecrusher out for one, he takes over breakfast!... He runs those griddles like nobody's business! I have another one coming up in a month, so I'll make sure I get pics of the griddles in action. It's actually fun for me, to start everything at different times and get it all finished at the same time. Potatoes... those damn potatoes...

I hear ya! I love mine. I've got two Camp Chef 14" stove systems, with a full griddle and a half griddle. Same for grills, one full grill, one half grill. At anytime I can be running 1 1/2 griddles, or 1 1/2 grills. I did this for camping, and for feeding the savages at the Spring and Fall Shoots. However, I keep one stove system set up at the house with the full griddle on it. I've been using it weekly, for something.

Cool. "As a previous participant of this annual, US state-wide invitation-only match, which you attended in 2019, you have preferred registration for this year, pending your response." Your letter will be coming from the "Match Director, 308AR.com Annual Fall Shoot." "You will also be invited to the "308AR/com Annual Spring Shoot" just for being a participant of the Fall Shoot. Spring Shoot registration for the following year is automatically approved, if you register/attend the Fall shoot in the prior year. " Sounds official, right? I'll word it up, and get all loquacious about it.
-
Which one did you hit before? Which year, 2 or 3 years ago? I'll name you personally, and give shoot results for that year.

I got this, brother...
