Thank you, for the intro. Now, we know what we're working with here. "Background in engineering" is not "Engineer," and rarely would any Engineering Degree even involve firearms in the first place. I'm not gonna dog you anymore - but we need real, clear truth here, in what we're dealing with - in order to determine what you're trying to do with your gun. It's only about the gun here - not all that you want to be, what you are, what you did in a past life - that might have nothing to do with firearms... etc. If you ditched your FFL over that new reporting rule that they made in 2011, and you dropped it in 2012 - chances are that you were never an FFL and dealt with the shiit after Sandy Hook, which was 17 Dec 2012. The ramifications of that were felt throughout the gun community starting the following Monday, when O'ButtFuck stated he was gonna do something about it. About 9am that day. As a FFL-Holder, what was your experience with AR in general, and .308ARs in specific? About that timeframe, .308ARs were nowhere NEAR as popular as they are now. I'm just asking... I stated that I'd let it go, and not ask,nor dog you anymore...My fault... I apologize...

I'm gonna add this in here, just to make it very clear. Here's the ATF "Rule" on 2-or-more Long Guns, that started in 2011, DURING GunWalker.

BATF&E going after Q for S-B braces.

Read this -it doesn't get any more official, or from a more official source, than THIS right here. Period. https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2020-27857.pdf It's a .pdf link - I know, you have to click it and open it, just to read it. That's the best way to get it to you all. Click the link, and read the thing. Here's the background on how that broke - TWO DAYS AGO... https://www.recoilweb.com/time-to-act-atf-to-classify-braced-firearms-as-nfa-items-164482.html?utm_source=bm23&utm_medium=email&utm_term=It's+Time+To+Act+-+Read+Here&utm_content=Gun+Registration+Incoming:+ATF+to+classify+Braced+Pistols+as+NFA+items&utm_campaign=Recoil+Newsletter+-+12/18/20&_bta_tid=08762829905476406989167512111550776626044112866328556207243131969432120401688208555831701427814137180938 Time To Act: ATF To Classify Braced Firearms as NFA Items Forrest Cooper December 18, 2020 Often times the threat of encroaching gun control, for most Americans, feels like something far outside of their control. As politicians attack human rights with the stroke of a pen, and bureaucrats build institutions and write policy without recourse for this it effects, it's easy to give into pessimism and become disenfranchised by the government supposedly built on the maxim that they are beholden to the will of the governed. At this moment, however, that is not the case. Each and every one of us, as individual citizens, have the opportunity to fight back, with deliberate action. Here is how you, specifically, can act against increasing government overreach. It didn't start with Q LLC, and it's not going to end in darkness. Whispers between friends, and shouts of protest have alarmed hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Americans of what is being proposed by the ATF. Incase we were waiting for more definite evidence, the DOJ has officially published this document titled Objective Factors for Classifying Weapons with “Stabilizing Braces” on December 18th, 2020. In summary: The ATF is attempting to specifically classify firearms with Pistol Stabilizing Braces as possibly being regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA) and Gun Control Act (GCA). While it is not stated openly what that would mean, it is reasonable to understand this as a form of re-defining braced pistols as either a Short Barrel Rifle (SBR) or Any Other Weapon (AOW) both of which are heavily scrutinized, accrue additional costs on behalf of the buyer, and most pressing, include registration as part of purchasing. The method of evaluating a firearm as whether or not they fall under the NFA or GCA, as stated in the document, is by “objective design features.” These include caliber, weight and length, length of pull, attachment method, aim point, secondary grip, sights and scope, and the opaque category of peripheral accessories. The document is straight forward about also saying that the way a firearm is marketed will also influence a decision. The result of classifying Braced Pistols as NFA items will be a registry. The direct quote: “Consequently, following issuance of this notice, ATF and DOJ plan to implement a separate process by which current possessors of affected stabilizer-equipped firearms may choose to register such firearms to be compliant with the NFA. As part of that process, ATF plans to expedite processing of these applications, and ATF has been informed that the Attorney General plans retroactively to exempt such firearms from the collection of NFA taxes if they were made or acquired, prior to the publication of this notice, in good faith. This separate process may include the following options: registering the firearm in compliance with the NFA (described above), permanently removing the stabilizing brace from the firearm and disposing of it, replacing the barrel of the firearm (16” or greater for a rifle, or 18” or greater for a shotgun), surrendering the firearm to ATF, or destroying the firearm. ” – Objective Factors for Classifying Weapons with “Stabilizing Braces”, by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, Page 11: https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2020-27857.pdf So, if this goes into effect, destroy your property, or comply. If you're looking for a back-door firearms registry. Here you have it, in the buff. There are no consequences for action There will be consequences for inaction. The letter includes an opportunity for people to contact them, digitally or on paper. This is where Americans have the advantage. The ATF is accepting comments, and is bound by law to respond. Let us make this clear. If follow the guidelines and submit a comment on the proposed classification, the ATF must take the time to respond. That means this is our chance to make it clear that the reclassification of Braced Pistols as NFA items is not only moving in the wrong direction, but that a firearms registration is unacceptable. Millions of Americans have Pistols with Stabilizing Braces, and if they are not aware of this, now's the time to put away any uncertainty and get them involved. Sharing this article is what it takes to win the first skirmish. Time is short, and the gate will not be open for long. If each owner of a brace, or someone considering purchasing a braced pistol volunteers to contact the ATF in the method directed, this can be stopped, if not by our voices, than by the very weakness of the ATF: bureaucracy. The gears of gun control can by halted by the actions of the many, and the wrench thrown into the system is your voice. The three ways you can submit your comments are directed as follows: Federal eRulemaking Portal: ATF recommends that you submit your comments to ATF via the Federal eRulemaking portal at www.regulations.gov and follow the instructions. Comments will be posted within a few days of being submitted. However, if large volumes of comments are being processed simultaneously, your comment may not be viewable for up to several weeks. Please keep the comment tracking number that is provided after you have successfully uploaded your comment. Mail: Send written comments to: Office of Regulatory Affairs, Enforcement Programs and Services, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, 99 New York Ave. NE, Mail Stop 6N518, Washington DC 20226; ATTN: ATF 2020R-10. -
Cannot pull trigger with pistol grip installed
98Z5V replied to 1stTimeBldr's topic in Building a .308AR
I'm not sure if I'm tracking here, but what I think is happening is that you've installed the grip and it's grip safety, THEN you're trying to install the Safety... and it won't go,because the detent is pushing it up out of the way?... -
On Friday, you said you'd ordered it. You received it already?! And you've done a couple AR-15s and 80% polys, with it? You implied that... Get the real info out, man. This is turning into a bullshiit thread real quick. Plus, you're an engineer, a former FFL Holder... Go rip the Intro Section up, and REALLY tell us about yourself. In every post you make, something new comes out. Here's the Intro Section, where you can spill your beans, all in one post. https://forum.308ar.com/forum/22-introductions/

Plenty of that here - you haven't done enough research yet. Lots of info here, if you look.

^^^ I know those shades. That's really him, in that pic, behind that gun. Just stating my experience. With him, and his shades.

That's Southwest Border Rules ONLY - and ONLY for Texas, New Mexico, Arizona. Cali doesn't count - because you already can't buy that many guns a month in Cali. That all came up DURING Operation GunWalker. And that's Long Guns, ONLY. Not pistols, or "Other" - which is stripped lower receivers. Complete Long Guns, ONLY. They (BATFE) enacted that one to track the guns they were walking along the SW Border, INTO Mexico - for complete Long Guns. Only reason that's even a rule - and it's still there...It was only there, "brand new made up Rule" - to try to identify Straw Purchasers, easier, by using Gun Shops to tip them off early. So, buy your ONE gun THIS month, if you're pananoid about it - but don't try to throw that "gave up my FFL" and toss rules at me over it. What you're saying is true, but it needs to be taken in context, and you're taking it out of context.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
That's a big bitch to fit on any AR, brother. I have two of those. For rifle lights, I have two of the ODIN lights, at 2k lumens, and they're badass. I just received one of the ODIN Minis, for 1500 lumins, and it's a slick light. I'll be interested in seeing that W X Pro mounted to a gun. -
You live in Texas. Nobody is keeping track of you, for buying a gun. Nobody.

Again, Get a pic in here of what you're talking about, on that selector... -
Why are you hung up on an 80% lower on your first .308AR?...
-
Seems like you've got one HELL of a budget for this gun, but you're looking at the cheapest parts that are out there for the backbone here- the GUN. Just buy a LaRue Ultimate Upper Kit, and buy the LaRue lower for another $299 - and you'll end up with one HELL of a backbone for this project. And be WAY under 3 grand for the gun, that way.
-
1. Why? Don't try to build a Race Gun with fancy Race-Gun-parts, on your first attempt at building a .308AR. It'll bite you right in the ass. Use a steel, full-weighted BCG - because its gonna be easier to diagnose your cycling issues in the future. 2. CMC single stage triggers don't compare to Geissele 2-stage triggers. That's comparing apples to hammers. 3. You should research that barrel purchase, or desire, right here on this board - before you decide on buying that company's barrel. Take that for what it's worth. 4. GunTec only makes .308AR handguards in the DPMS-Low profile. You need to determine if your HellFire set is DPMS High or DPMS Low profile, before you look at the GunTec rail. GunTec makes good rails, and it's on one of my small-frame guns. But, to this date, they've never made a single DPMS High profile .308AR rail. You need to research that aspect of it. Lastly, if you're building off that HellFire set - no matter what they say in their advertising... What they picture is NOT an AR-10 pattern, in the very least, and by no stretch of the imagination. It's DPMS LR-308-based. Seems that if HellFire calls it "AR-10", then they don't know what they're talking about in the first place.

We share that curse together, brother. I wouldn't have it any other way, for me, though. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Sounds like a Battle Arms 45* selector. Get a pic in here of what you're talking about, on that selector... -
I'll permanent-paint-pen your name on it, and use it at work, just so the guys ask "Who the fuk is RON?!!?" Oh, by the way - you have FUK-TON of 5.56 ammo out here, brother. I'll count the other shiit, too - but it's not a small amount. Future planning, and all that...
-
I'd risk it...

Those all had "non-traditional" gas port locations, though - as we found out with the shorty barrels. Even finding the parts, doesn't mean you could install them on a regular barrel, and make it work - not without repositioning the gas port location on whatever barrel you get/have. No guarantees. Gonna be "not easy" to get a custom-length op rod for one of those gas systems - not like us just getting White Oak to make us custom gas tubes, when we were converting them the other way, into a DI system.

Pics will help, here. Sounds like the grip screw is too long, goes into the lower, and contacts the bottom of the trigger. Can't tell without pics, though. Welcome aboard - go rip up the intro section, and tell us about yourself. It's right here: https://forum.308ar.com/forum/22-introductions/ -
What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Jim, those gasblocks are sweet - the Seekins guys had me interested in those a couple years ago at SHOT. They make FINE products. Just ordered my .358 Win match barrel from Wilson Combat. And an Armalite AR-10 charging handle from DSG Arms. That will complete the basic .358 Win upper. Intrigued to see what this thumper will be capable of. -
Go dig that Yeti mug out of the trash, and I'll pay ya for it. I love Yeti mugs, ya sour bastard. Oh, Merry Christmas, fukker.

Good information in this vid. Kotaboy32 breaks it all down quite well. Be forewarned - YT doesn't like this video, and it'll probably go down. Save it now, if you have that capability.
