  1. Cancel the handguard order before it ships. Call them tomorrow morning, first thing, AZ-time, because that's where they're at. All Aero Precision M5 receivers are "DPMS High Profile." ALL GunTec large-frame rails are "DPMS Low Profile." Wrong handguard for the receivers you bought. Oh, and, Welcome Aboard.

Of course... as soon as I open up my mouth, it changes... FUK!

Well Gawd Dayum, the Weather-Guessers here actually nailed their prediction. I wish they would have messed this one up, but they didn't. FML.

It's deceptive. It looks like a Long Range Dream Come True - until you're in it. They best way I can describe so others can "feel it" is to pre-heat your oven to 325*, and when the buzzer goes off, open the oven door and stick your head in there...
  5. That was way back when, around 2010, before I was "refined and polished..."
  6. Please explain a little more. You trying to attach a pic rail to a carry handle?
  7. I got tangled up in some shiit there, back in the day. Let it rip, too. A certain gun dealer decided to criticize some of the things I said, so I responded, well, how I respond when those things happen.
  8. Whole bunch of Armalite parts, but for real - not even one whole gun, nor receivers... I know, it's crazy... I have managed to run 100% Armalite AR-10 internals in a DPMS-based set of receivers, though, and THAT THING runs like a Ninja Warrior...

Here's today's layout - those that have been here are familiar with it. Overall, looking out: Modded pic, 500 on the left, 850 on the right...

Well, I got out there at 0630, and got home at 1045. It was already 113* before I left out there, and.... DAMN! Was it was weird out there... Everything was different. I made and tested that 178 ELD-X load, and it was 50*, I was running the altitude for where I was (camp location) at 1390 feet, baro pressure was 29.80 in/Hg, and humidity was almost nothing. .308 Win load, badass to the bone, like a laser. 8.5 mils of drop at 850 yards, and I confirmed that the very next day after I finalized that load... Okay, so today... Fuckin' WEIRD. This thing was 7.0 mils of drop at 850 yards. I've never had a .308 Win load that will do that. At first, I dialed 8.5, and I was shooting way over the steel. I dialed it back to 0, and just started holding, until I was on target. Once 7.0 even was determined to be the magic hold, I dialed 7.0 mils, and whack after whack on the steel. Unreal for a .308 Win load. Weather - as soon as I figured that drop out: At the time right after shooting and re-doping it, it was 105*, baro was 28.38 in/Hg, altitude at the long-distance location is actually 1458 feet, and humidity was 22.6%. Just plugging weather into the calculator (alone, just the weather differences) brings the drop to 7.7mils at 850 yards. Play with the muzzle velocity (2530 fps when I made this load, weather data up top)... I mess with the muzzle velocity in the calculator, along with the weather changes, and it's 2630 fps to make 850 yards a 7.0 mil drop correction... The 18" Grendel was just as weird, but I didn't put the time into that one to figure it out. Eff it. I'll wait 'til it's cooler to mess with that.
  11. We need to know - because when you ask, you'll mostly get "free-state" answers as advice - and some of that advice would land you in jail, in IL. That's the whole reason for the Intro Section - where you tell us about yourself, and don't leave pertinent details out... Like, where you live... Garbage in, garbage out. Hope that makes sense. We live it daily, here.
  12. I think I posted that in the medical thread. Not sure, but pretty sure I did. Most expeditious manner of getting a casualty off the ground, up, and moving. Wil Willis is a genuine badass. Army Ranger, converted over (cross-branched) to be an Air Force PJ. Hardcore to the bone, that dude is. Bad Motherfucker.
  13. ^^^ Someone PLAYED that kid, and won...
  14. VERY necessary info, for advice that you ask of, and receive. Hope you understand the reason for asking.

Leaving in 5 hours, to pit the 18" Grendel against the Mk11, at 500 and 850. Results will be posted here. It's supposed to be 117 here tomorrow, so I'm going out there early, and not staying long. SW Desert sucks in the summer, men.
  16. It'll run with that. Feedback only helps defeat the other myths out there.
  17. Welcome. What state are you in?
  18. You definitely don't get it enough. FML, I get accused of being an Armalite Fan Boy, and I don't even own one. You need more grief piled upon you, in a fastidious manner...
  19. Whaddaya mean? He and I got along great. We had some disagreements over engraving, but that was small stuff...
  20. Hmmm... 0.089" gas port diameter, per specs, but as stated, did you measure that, and come up with that, to verify? At any rate, that doesn't matter, because... How many times here on this board have I stated that the proper gas port diameter for an 18" rifle-gas .308 AR, .308 Win cartridge, with a 0.750"gas block journal needs to be... 0.093"~0.096"... Your gas port is too small. In fact, you may need an even larger gas port diameter to properly run subsonic .308 Win ammunition, even with a suppressor - in a gas gun... Something between 0.093"~0.096" is the bare minimum, though - so, even if it's what they say it is - it's too small...
  21. Your gas tube is perfect - don't mess with it. Leave it alone. The "as carbines tend to be overgassed" statement means you're way off track here. You're running a carbine recoil system, which doesn't have anything to do with the gas system. Again, that barrel will have a 0.095" gas port, or close enough within a couple thou. Gas tube is perfect. Buffer is WAY too light for the mass of a .308AR BCG, and the power of a .308 Win cartridge. WAY too light. It need to be 5.4oz, or as close as you can get to that, and it needs to run a good recoil spring. So... You can fix this one of two ways. You can KEEP your receiver extension - if it's truly 7.000" internal depth, and not 7.100" internal depth (measure closely, and carefully). If you KEEP that receiver extension, then you need a buffer that's 2.500" long, and damn close to 5.4oz. KAK makes that beast, and it's 5.3oz - good enough. It's certainly not 3.8oz. https://www.kakindustry.com/lr308-carbine-buffer-heavy Next, you need a spring that's been designed to run a real 2.500" long buffer, made for the weight of a .308AR BCG, and the power of the .308 Win cartridge - you need the Sprinco Orange Spring. It's in stock here, right now. That doesn't mean that it will be in stock in 15 minutes, though. Not in these times. https://www.primaryarms.com/sprinco-ar10-orange-extra-power-carbine-buffer-spring Your problem isn't overgassing - you're under-recoiled. The the weight of this BCG, and the power of the .308 Win round, your BCG is moving too fast, and missing the next round in the mag. It's also extracting too early - because there's shiit for buffer weight and spring pressure holding it in place, to allow the case to cool - and reliably extract. There's not enough MASS to control that ASS... Looks like overgassing, sure. The bandaid is an adjustable gas block. But, that's putting the bandaid on the wrong cut... You need a reliable recoil system, and not something that's cheap for a manufacturer to pump out. Second way to fix this, for real, for permanent, forever (the above method will do that, too) - just buy the complete Armalite AR-10 Carbine Recoil System, and be done. The Armalite part # is AR10REKIT01. https://www.armalite.com/SACItem.aspx?Item=AR10REKIT01&ReturnURL=/Armalite/Product-Category/AR10-Parts-Accessories/Lower-Receiver-Parts&Category=ac614400-ff09-4cdf-9d35-419a654e7201 Both methods work very well. Reading this thread would have saved you a bunch of time, and you would have figured it out on your own:
  22. AAAAaaaaaaaahhhhh.... it all comes back to me now, and I connect the dots... JF89 would have a field day with this stuff...
  23. Whoa! Backstory on this? You lose a license, brother?...
  24. A serious piece of history here, brother. Here's the Cliffs Notes: https://www.guns.com/news/2012/05/29/project-titan-308-experimental-compensator-barrel-shroud https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2012/05/25/project-titan-interesting-308-ar-rifle/
  25. Well, then... I MUST do it. An Ode to the past.
