Cerakote base coat is baking now. Comes out in an hour, gets cooled and assembled, then the top coat goes on and gets finished. It's 100 degrees here, with 8% humidity, so it might as well be a "painting weekend." There's alot more that's getting painted this weekend. This damn rifle is gonna take all day, today, though. Paint + Beer = Take your time and do it right.

PIcs of the current configuration will help tremendously. Get some pics up, and we'll be able to work through it. Lived in Tacoma area for 12 years. Miss the area, and don't miss the current politics not one bit. Would love to go back one day, but never can - not with the LibTards over-running everything there, and just ruining the place.

I don't have any idea how I ran out of those things... This is what it is. I'm stripping it now to paint it - probably my best paintjob yet. Paint pics up here tonight. ^^^ Exactly. We had a badass 308 BCG here with DWilson, but that dried up. There's no other place I'll ever look, for a 308 OR 556 BCG, than ToolCraft, ever again. My last two 6.5 Grendel BCGs were ToolCraft.

Don't spend that money. Find a ToolCraft 308 BCG in nitride for alot less. ToolCraft makes their money supplying ALOT of OEM manufacturers with "their own" 5.56 BCGs. ToolCraft has been in this business for a long time. Search out the best deal on a ToolCraft 308 nitrided BCG and be done with it.

Tons of great 2-stage triggers out there, some cheaper,some more expensive. Question is, what kind of quality are you looking for? You'll never beat a Geissele, ever. Many come close, and there are many alternatives, at lower price points. You'll never beat a LaRue MBT2S, at it's price point - no matter what you try to buy. You might wait for it, though, for months. I think it's still on sale for $99. That LaRue is directly comparable with a Geissele SSA trigger, and the Geissele SSA-E is a little better - but that's an additional $100, minimum, just for the SSA. We can talk triggers for hours, man. I've pretty much bought them all, over time - and still have them all, after all this time.

I'd bet my money that a 16" 7mm-08 would be pretty damn decent on a 1000-yard range. I took a 12.5" 6.5 Grendel to 845 yards, with boring repeatability. BORING repeatability. 10.2 mils of drop. Bang. Every time.

For 300 yards?... You have so many options, for a 300-yard gun. All in the .308 parent-case. Pick what you want. Just make sure you pick up a decent 2-stage trigger. This ain't a bolt gun.

Point being, in my post - a .308 Win AR in 16" is more than capable for what you're describing. The 7mm-08 us a WAY more efficient round over .308, and a 16" 7mm-08 would be even better - less drop,flat shooting,more impact energy - than the 16" .308.

If the distance is that short, and you're looking at a .308 parent case, have you considered a .338 Federal? I built up a 16" .338 Fed as a pig gun, but I haven't been able to put it on any pigs yet.

Less recoil let's you watch it all go down in the scope, without the scope moving...

If you're stuck on the .308 parent case... Have you looked at the .260 Remington?... Trajectory very similar to the 7mm-08, and a hell of alot less recoil... I'm just sayin'... Make your own brass from .308 brass. It's just another set of dies...

Sweet Baby Jesus, this build parameter is a godsend. You can do that distance with a 16" barrel, in a .308 Win pattern. You'll be a Deer Slayer at 300 yards with it. Easy. A 16" gun would be highly accurate at 60o yards, easy. Then, you go and throw out the 7mm-08. That's an 1100 yard cartridge, all day long, from a shitty gun. Let alone an accurate one. I'd bet that you could build a 7mm-08 AR with a 18" barrel that would be 900/1000-yard accurate, with ease. No kidding. Shorten that up to a 16" barrel, lose a few fps for muzzle velocity-over-trajectory, and you'd still be banging the hell out of 800 yards without a sweat. 2-stage trigger on an AR. World of difference for accuracy. You're used to the bolt gun world, light pull single stage - that trigger is already pre-set. No take up. Any pressure you apply makes it go bang, with no take up. ARs are different. Take up the slack with the first stage, it stops. Additional pressure/poundage sets it off. 2-stage trigger in an AR is just about mandatory for accuracy or precision. I have a 2.5lb TImney on my Rem 700, and it's just press-and-go. No take up. An animal like that, in an AR, just about doesn't exist, hence the need for a good 2-stage.
