ChaseFan9
Anyways, about that polygonal rifling... Yea or nay? You said LaRue doesn't use it anymore, was it because it was less accurate, or just not as cost-effective as they want?
Robocop1051
Lol. There's nothing "cost effective" about a LaRue. The fact is, time and time again, stainless barrels prove to be more accurate barrels CONSISTENTLY.
D.R.D.
The folks at LaRue told me that they weren't seeing any increased performance with the poly over their typical rifling.
ChaseFan9
So polygonal rifling was pretty much just an experiment for the folks out at LaRue, then? BHW makes 416R Stainless barrels w/ polygonal rifling, and they're relatively inexpensive, as long as that price difference doesn't translate to larger groups on paper. D.R.D.
Crusader Weaponry uses the BHW barrels in their Longbow and Broadsword builds. They along with one or two people I've seen on this forum report good things about them. I've also heard some negative reports, but don't remember exactly about what regarding the barrels. Maybe someone else can chime in about them.
Tripledeuce
Well, so whats the differince between cut riffling and button??? Respectfully Terry

blue109
I saw a dude on weapons guild take some square stock, heat and twist it, and then force it through a barrel blank to make rifling. everything after that is for girlie men. Zebra644
Rainier Arm's also has a polygonal barrel option.

texas30cal
I'm also looking for the most bang for my buck in a 20" SS barrel, been soaking this up and will keep watching, great info. I'm over on the guild too, I fancy myself a good machinist and pretty fair fabricator but some of those guys are AMAZING!
D.R.D.
Many here seem to rave about these: http://www.fulton-armory.com/barrelfatitan20nmm110ss1x12875gasblockthreaded.aspx
ChaseFan9
Just ordered my barrel yesterday. It's a BHW 20" 416R SS rifle length bbl (.936 gas block), 3 polygonal rifling 1x11 twist, threaded, no fluting, with a shot peened finish. I guess we'll see how it works out. In 6-12 weeks :( Edited March 24, 2015 by ChaseFan9

No problem with sub MOA with it .
D.R.D.
Chasefan - Let us know how it does, I've eyed that barrel for a long time!
ChaseFan9
Oh, I will. I'm just extremely impatient, so the next 6 weeks is going to feel like 6 years! But I've already got a "range" beside my house that goes out to roughly 1km, so I'll have more than a few variables to sort out before I can REALLY test it out... ironmonster
The other thing about Rainer is they will give you your money back on a Barrel before 90 days is up for any reason. You buy one that wont shoot, or you just dont like it, send it back and you get all your money. Pretty hard to beat a deal like that. Not bad, I'll have to keep that in mind when I look for my next barrel. The only problem I have with buying a ready to order barrel (and this is nothing against any specific company) is you never know how long that barrel's been sitting on a shelf or in a crate somewhere. Now I know companies (the ones with any sense, anyways) use different methods of storage to prevent damage to the barrel, but the longer one sits, the more likely it is you'll have a slightly less accurate or even damaged barrel or bore. Plus you have to go with whatever happens to be available, which, granted, is usually a decent selection. When a company will make you a new barrel you're getting a brand new barrel, and a lot of times they'll make them to whatever specs you need. You usually have to wait forever, though. blue109
as often as RA is out of stock, I doubt they sit lomg. those guys move alot of gear.
ironmonster
Yep, a lot of gear. Last time I was in there I ask about a Noveske Gen III lower. Guy told me they where waiting on a half million dollar Noveske order.
ChaseFan9
True, and hopefully it will stay that way. Business, that is, not everyone staying sold out. As the market flourishes, the platform advances.

Pros and Cons There are so many good barrels available now, that you're in a position to pick what you want - they're all over. Modern barrels are made, and pretty much packaged for shipment - and VERY well protected. Most modern barrels are pre-packaged directly after manufacture, just as the two pics below indicate. I think you're worrying about nothing, and the hypothetical has taken over your cognitive thought processes. You don't have schit to worry about, that you're currently worrying about... You're worked up over bullschit... If you'd like, I can give you the "non-sugar-coated version..."
