For the Kurds, its life or death. Iran persecutes them, Turkey persecutes them, Saddam dropped nerve gas on their cities. And ISIS has attacked them from the beginning. They fight with anything and verything that will shoot, and haven't been getting much help from the west, although Germany and the Netherlands are changing that. It is a society mobilized for survival, and thus, war. A lot of the front line troops are female, and supposedly, damn good. Had an acquaintance who was working with them in places He won't talk about. He has a high opinion of their abilities.
