firefighterbve
I'm new to the AR platform. I recently bought a DPMS 308 Oracle. I'm looking for any advice and tips. I would like to upgrade some parts. Info on compatible parts and what special tools needed to do any of the upgrades. Thanks in advance. firefighterbve
Is there any special tools I need to to do upgrades? Are all 308 parts compatible?

Yes, you will need special tools. No, all parts are not compatible. Check out the DPMS section and you can start to learn who makes what for that particular platform. COBrien
Before you go buying any parts, be sure to look and make sure whatever you're considering is listed as fitting the DPMS or LR308 platform. There are 3 or 4 (5 with Daniel Defense?) different patterns, the 2 most common ones being DPMS/Remington/Bushmaster/LR308 and Armalite. If you have questions about what fits, feel free to post up here or contact the manufacturer directly. firefighterbve
I bought the DPMS 308 Oracle 16". I'm looking to upgrade the stock to a fixed stock, the charging handle to an ambidextrous since I'm left handed, the handguard to eliminate the plastic. Suggestions on what to look for and where to find these. What about upgrading the gas block? Any benefits and suggestions?
GunBugBit
firefighterbve, welcome! On the gas block, I favor a pinned low profile gas block. The benefit is: it's the most solid approach to keeping the gas block from becoming misaligned with the barrel gas hole. A set screw or clamp approach can work but for best stability I like pinned. One can do the pinning with a jig, a drill and a reamer. A hand reamer can work to finish the hole you'll drill, so the taper pin will fit. No I don't work for Brownell's, just find their stuff handy to link to because they often come up on searches. Also, no guarantee that all the parts I linked to are compatible with each other, they're just examples. I'll be pinning a low profile gas block on an in-progress 308 AR build so watch for my posts on how it went.
