mley1
JJ Watt is awesome. The Texans and Houston are who I root for in sports. There's a couple others, but Houston is where my heart is.
mley1
I'm drying out some backpacks, gun cases, and some ammo. Question, what are the chances of the ammo still being good? It was some Lake City, Remington UMC, Tula, and Monarch, all 5.56/.223. The Tula and Monarch are steel cased
mley1
I forgot to mention the ammo was submerged for almost two days. I did shake a few and can feel and hear the powder mover around in the case. There doesn't appear to be any corrosion on any of them. jtallen83
Not sure it is worth the risk on the ammunition, life or death and all you have then maybe shoot it. With the opportunity to replace it I wouldn't, risk of a squib just isn't worth that little bit of ammo.
shepp
And invest in some ammo cans they're fairly cheap and a good way to store and transport ammo

I have one or two. However, it was in my range box, as I had just been to the range a few days prior, and just hadn't moved it back into an ammo can. The majority of my ammo is locked up in a large cabinet that stayed dry, and a second large cabinet I keep upstairs. Then I have a supply in the gun safe. My ammo cans are almost full too. I only have so much room. That small amount was what was left in the range box after a day of shooting. I had forgotten about it I guess. Some of it has the red sealer around the primers, and some does not. I'm not afraid of squibs. I can deal with those pretty easy. It's the hang fires that scare the hell out of me. So, I guess I may just dispose of this ammo. I'll probably pull the bullets on the brass cases so my buddy can reload them. The steel cased ammo I don't know. I've checked each of the cases for signs of water intrusion. I've found two that I could tell were contaminated by the green corrosion around the mouth where the bullet is. And, when I shook the case I could tell the powder wasn't moving freely as it should. They were separated out. All the others looked good. If I didn't know for a fact they had been under water, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
98Z5V
If it was NATO military ammunition, it is water-PROOFED to a depth of 250 feet. Learned that in a past life.
mley1
?? not NATO ammo. Got it from local stores, Academy and Walmart.
survivalshop
Hard to tell about the ammo , shoot at your own risk , but I think it will be fine . Its pressure or atmospheres of pressure under water that will determine if it compromise the ammo with water or moisture . The Steel cased should have a sealer on the case to prevent corrosion . I would be more worried about corrosion & having the case chamber with head space issues .

My PA10 upper, and my sons PA15 upper arrived today!! Hopefully, my lowers will be delivered to the FFL tomorrow. And I'll pick them up on Thursday, as I'm off Thursday. Hurricane Harvey slowed them down, but they're finally here!

No damage at the homestead either, so no worries here.
