Bolt Carrier Compatibility

MarkB

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'd like to ask for some Bolt Carrier info.

My build is a MA-TEN monolithic upper/lower with Lothar Walther barrel/bolt.  I am waiting on an Armalite BCG, but would like to know if there are other bolt carriers that would be compatible to Armalite.

Thanks,

MarkB

Armalite BCG

DPMS lower parts kit will not be compatable with ArmaLite parts

JP adjustable gas block

Rifle-length gas tube

Magpul PRS

Slash heavy buffer/spring I assume rifle length?

Armalite buffer tube I assume rifle length?

SR Gold trigger

SAS muzzle break

Here are a few concerns I have in red for clarification...

I built a MA TEN carbine using a Noveske barrel, Armalite BCG, DPMS bolt catch, ATC SR Gold trigger, CAR X heavy buffer and spring, AR 15 colapsing stock, and the rest AR 15 small parts, (selector, springs, detents, etc). I've had no compatability issues. As mentioned above, I'm not aware of compatability issues with DPMS lower parts and the Armalite BCG. Although I seem to recall a member posting about having an interference issue with the hammer clearing the bottom of the Armalite BC, unfortunately I don't recall what hammer he was using, (maybe DPMS?)

the only difference i think i have heard is that the armalite bolt catch is beefier.

The DPMS bolt catch is smaller than the ArmaLite bolt catch and may not have the positive control in front of the bolt itself being that small.

I am not 100% positive on this, but I think DPMS uses a standard M-15 bolt catch on all their rifles.

The DPMS 308's bolt stops are much larger than a std AR 15's. I think the Armalite firing pin is spring loaded & might make a difference in what Hammer you use .

Thanks for that picture. I see the DPMS is bigger than a standard M15 bolt catch, but similar in design and the ArmaLite is just bigger period.

And yes the ArmaLite firing pin does have a retarding spring on it. But I use a standard hammer spring in my rifle and have had no problem with it.
