6shootr
was recently pondering barrel length for my .308 build and came across this article...good read for anyone interested. http://www.tacticaloperations.com/SWATbarrel/

6shootr
believe that's the same thing haha but thanks! I know i'm going with the FA criterion 18.5 inch but still undecided if i should get the lighter chrome lined one or the slightly heavier one...all said and done with the black and threaded barrel it is only 15 dollars more for the lighter one but if it would increase the vibrations i'm not sure it'd be the right decision. Any thoughts?
6shootr
Check THIS out about barrel length as well.my mistake, only the first one was the same link...the two links down the bottom were pretty awesome as well..thanks!

Any thoughts?Well I prefer the HB of the two . If you look at the weight difference , its not much at all & the SS HB , IMO ,will shoot better. They will both shoot just fine. 6shootr
just to clarify...HB is heavier barrel correct? The stainless steel shoots better?!? is that a cooling issue? Main reason why i didn't want stainless steel is because i hate "shinny" guns unless they're wall pieces lol

6shootr
is the main reason for the SS the heat dissipation?
Livnoutdoors6.8
I've read that stainless will resist heat corrosion in the throat and bore erosion better than a standard 4140 barrel.
6shootr
hmm. wonder if a chrome lined barrel would compensate for that or not.
Livnoutdoors6.8
From my understanding, its kind of a crap shoot for accuracy with chrome lining. I know that if there's imperfections in the chrome, it can cause accuracy issues since the chrome won't smooth out at any reasonable rate. With the stainless barrel I'm getting, if I get good accuracy out of it, I'm going to send it out for melonite. That process hardens the surface without changing the bore dimensionally, meaning it will be an accurate barrel for longer.
6shootr
o good info thanks! Are you using the 18.5 inch FA criterion as well? Where are you getting that done?
Livnoutdoors6.8
No, I'm using an 18" Bison BRX. I have the name of the place I'm going to send it out to somewhere, can't think of it off hand
6shootr
o nice! those are expensive
Livnoutdoors6.8
I think they go for like $250, but Ben at bison did a group buy on a run of 10 barrels to get the word out on them so I grabbed mine for $175. I'm interested to see how it performs!
6shootr
poop that's a deal! On their website i tried "building" one and it was up to $500 bucks.
Livnoutdoors6.8
Yeah, I bought one of their barrels and bolts for my first 6.8 and was very happy with the accuracy I get out of it, so I'm pretty confident in their quality. I'm not sure if you mentioned it earlier, but what barrel are you looking at?
6shootr
O nice. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm looking at the Fulton Armory criterion 18.5" match threaded barrels...still unsure if i'm going with the lighter chrome lined one or the .5lbs heavier. Stainless steel or not is still going through my mind. I figured i'd give the company a call when i'm ready to buy it and get their opinion to. Sucks because i need to buy the compensator and bolt carrier group first and send it to them before i get the barrel cause i need the comp pinned, probably the gas block and barrel nut on their first to because i doubt i could get that stuff over the compensator and i also have to have the bolt and the barrel headspaced...who knows how much that costs to. unforgiven
But in the end brother it will be setup correctly and safe. <thumbsup>

6shootr
well got my lower...now gonna order a lower parts kit and a stock/buffer tube. Anyone recommended any stocks? I like the magpull stock but i found a MAKO (recoil reducing stock) while recently searching that doesn't seem bad. Anyone have any experience with them? I've never shot a semi auto .308 so i'm wondering how recoil is on these guns...anyone wanna chime in? AND does anyone reccomened a buffer tube? I'd like to go milspec if i could...does the stock LR308 have a mil or commercial buffer tube assy?
