@blue109...   So, first, brother...   The Burn It Down gun ended up with a light on it.  PID, you know.  If you're gonna burn it down, then know your visibility range, right?

So, I thought to myself - I better start looking for the NEXT barrel, because this thing isn't gonna last forever.  Buy a backup NOW.  Get on KAKs website, set my search criteria for their 12.5" barrels...  Replacement is $119.  Cool.  But wait...

What's THIS?!!?  They have a stainless 416 barrel in a 1:5" twist?!  WTF?  What is THAT for?

Suffice to say - we're gonna find out...

Man...   I have 3 different 12.5" guns that will do 850 yards all day long.  6.5 Grendel, 6 ARC, and 22 ARC.  I THINK that KAK is making this thing as a super-fast-twist in order to over-stabilize the 5.56 heavies in order to get more distance out of them.  I don't know.  I just found this barrel tonight.  I'll call KAK in the morning about this thing, and find out what the deal is on it, why they made it.

One way or another, I'll get one, and find out.  Maybe it's made for 88s or 90s?  We gonna know soon...   😁

Maybe you can squeeze a 510gr postell in there over 5gr of unique?

I used to use the 510 over 6gr unique for 45/70 but I don’t think you could fit 6gr in the .556 case

Ohh yeah, at one point I had a Siamese Mauser in 45-70 with a Lyman Alaskan, it could get close to 458win mag specific velociraptors.

We'll get this back on track somehow...   Even if I have to pay someone to Chloroform you...   :lmao:

Careful what you wish for.

anyway how deep would 90’s have to be set in the case for the ammo the fit the magazine?

talk about 10lbs of poop in a 1lb bag.

Now, wait a minute - are you talking about 5.56 here?

The Hornady 88gr ELD-M is 1.240" long.

The Sierra 90gr HPBT Matchking is 1.171" long.

That just turns this into a math problem, if the case length is 1.760". and the loaded length for a mag needs to be 2.260"...

Are the bullets still in the neck when seated or do they intrude into the case body?

I’m not a fan of that myself but whatever works.

Well, wouldn't EVERY bullet be in the neck of the case, when seated?  Kinda has to be.  Even your precious 55gr FMJBT protrudes into the case body.

Measure one of your 55s, and run the math, brother.  It's real...

Every single military tracer, every M855 green tip, all the Mk262 77gr issued ammo - the base of the projectile does extend into the case body.  It's not a big giant deal, and is common on every cartridge ever loaded.  I don't understand your phobia about it.

It not about a phobia, it’s about at what point do you change calibers and at what point do you change the porpoise of the firearm.

boattail into the case body is much different than almost filling the case body

147’s in my AR9 perform much differently than the 147’s in the the AR10

I'm interested in how the 1/5 work with the 90’s and also the 52/55/62.

my 300blk shoots well with the 110’s and the 180’s I’m almost out of, but I think I will  focus on the 110’s.

I would imagine If the 1/5 5.56 gave a similar performance to the 110’s of the 300blk I may switch barrels and replace my 300blk  with another 5.56 with a 1/5 barrel

So many variations of the same calibre, so little time…

I am thinking of picking up this barrel, as I have a side charging upper collection dust and haven’t decided on its purpose. And I think I may start breaking down my 300blk.

This is comparing Apples to Hammers, man.  And you know it.

So am I - which is why I posted this in the first place.  Beat me to it, get one, and test it out before I do.  Otherwise, sit back, grab a beer and relax, and wait until I figure out why they did this.

Or get one, and figure it out before I do.

I can tell you this much - a 5 twist will blow up lightweight bullets.  They won't be able to handle it.  Too much rotational speed for those fuqrs, with the speed they travel.  This was made for heavies.  And that's probably the reason it's short.  Stabilize heavies from a short barrel.

But - get one and shoot one of those 52s through it, and let us know what happens.

This is a porpoise...

Has nothing to do with a firearm...  I'm just sayin;...

Clown this thread all you want.  You'll get clowned back.  Hard.
