Hi guys I'm new to this site and just dropped by. I really like the Recon and I've placed it high on my bucket list.

Jim

The normal recon or the new gii? Post in the introductions and tell us a bit about yourself and what you would like to get in a rifle.

There are lots of people here to help you make the right decision.

I had heard that the gii used a standard ar15 buffer and spring, so to see if this was true, or if it used a standard ar308 buffer and spring, or something proprietary, I emailed dpms.

Just so everyone knows, acording to dpms, it uses a standard ar308 spring and buffer.

I might be picking the rifle up tomorrow. If not, sometime this week. Ill let yall know, and post a pre range bit of info and pics, and Ill try to hurry and get some rounds downrange and let yall know how that goes as well. :-)

I got the gii, but didn't get home till almost one from picking it up. Some quick observations

I have never seen a firearm ship so dry. Sahara desert dry

The trigger has a little grit, but is actually quite nice. Honestly, I think replacing it would be a waste of cash

Everything is more natural for an army guy... and yet everything is bizzarre at the same time. Every detail about the gun is tweaked

The Moe grip reminds me of how good the Moe+ grip is

Due to my last experience, I checked out my buffer tube. What do you know, there is a big old gouge in it. Ill let you know if it affects function, but its a bit irritating.

The upper and lower are relatively tight, but there are sharp edges around the corners of the lower, where your fingers go when charging the firearm. Mine came with an oddly and incredibly strong spring for the charging handle latch, so I almost have to grit my teeth to disengage the latch and charge the weapon. When I do this, I ram my fingers across this sharp edge on the lower. It is very uncomfortable.

My sn is just over a thousand, and I though fit and finish would be a tad better. But ill put some rounds through it and let yall know what I think! Ill start a new thread today with detailed pictures, right before everything gets an oil bath. :-)

Yeah, thats the new pea shooter :-) I have high expectations from dpms... in that I expect they built this rifle better than the last guy did LOL

I sold the last one for 1400, and I picked this up for 1375 otd.

If you want to find a dude who will treat you right, check out dotson firearms on facebook. He is who I went through. I had to drive 2 hours to get to his house, but he will ship anywhere for $25 :-)

Here you can see the gii multi caliber lower. Dpms said although it is multi caliber, they do not have a 22 upper for it.

If you look closely you will notice the damage on the buffer tube. You might also be able to see the green hammer spring (jp?).

I am new to nice triggers, but to me, the hammer profile is very odd. But the trigger is quite nice. It just needs some smoothing out from trigger time

Notice the Odd lug geometry, the monolithic bcg, and the duel ejectors.

I wonder if the monolithic bcg will catch on in the ar15 world…

Here you can see the Steel feed ramp insert. I am not engineer, but I would think this might be a good idea for polishing, and making it possible to replace the feed ramps to possibly lengthen the life of the upper. Or maybe it is just marketing for dopes like me

In case you haven’t seen a comparison between the DPMS 19 rnd magazine, and the Magpul gen 3 20 rnd p mag, here it is. I am actually quite fond of the dpms profile and size.

Lets talk about this sling… DPMS stole it from an airsoft manufacture in china…. Seriously, it is that chinsy. Goofy

Secondly, does anyone know why the DPMS buffer has the moving weights in it? That drives me crazy! I can hear it when the firearm is assembled! It has g2g.

Sorry for the poor photography. If you want to see something specific, just ask. I will post a review in the DPMS section when I get some rounds down range, and I will post a vid on youtube when I get a good bit more rounds down range.

Just now

Good update, man - nice seeing the differences here in this rifle.

That's a 2-stage trigger - you'll see that hammer profile, or something similar to that, on most 2-stage triggers, regardless of manufacturer.  That's the way a 2-stage trig looks.

Moving weights inside the buffer is the way it's supposed to be.  Stops or lessens bolt bounce when the BCG slams forward.  Normal.
