Think it's blown way outta proportion they have decimated the herd here in southern wi and spent millions on somthing that's been in other states for years and years, and I'm pretty sure that you can only get it if you eatting stuff like the brain.

If you ever saw an animal with cwd you wouldn't eat it anyways they literally look like a zombie

CWD is  caused by prion infection of the brain.  It can only be killed by temperatures in excess if 1,000*,  The brain, spinal cord, and spinal fluid is affected.

I, personally, NEVER cut any bone on a deer or elk.   I bone out everything.   Yes, I do leave some meat on the bone, epecially around the neck bones!    BUT  If I don't cut the spinal cord, there is NO chance to contaminate the meat.

Animals with CWD have been found in Colorado for over the last 10 years.  I;v never heard of anyone coming down with the disease.

     Respectfully

     Terry

We had two guys here in Wisconsin die of it I think that's what sparked the "iratication" zone here. But like I stated before they were eatting things like the brains.

We also don't cut any bones we bone everything

No - I'll bet they can look like damn zombie deer, I don't doubt that one bit!  I was just digging for pics.  One that was close was the thing looked like skin and bones, was drooling like mad...  I was looking for more.  <thumbsup>

An aquaintance got a case from eating Elk he shot in Colorado. It is very similar to Jakob Creutzfeldt Syndrome, or Mad Cow Disease. Caused by a Prion which is essentially a glorified protein. Can withstand heat to 1600 F so you can't cook it out. Best thing is to inspect the animal for general health and like said above, stay away from organs, brains and bones.
