Welcome from Texas. The first thing I would recommend is to get a lower from the same manufacturer as the upper. Since there is no standard like the ar15, parts from one manufacturer do not necessarily work with others even if they are the same type. Many future problems can be avoided by following this suggestion.

I've only been to Colorado a few times. It was nice for a change of scenery, but I would not want to live there. The nontourist towns we went through were drab and appeared to be pot centered. It may have changed but the magazine capacity was 15 the last time I was there. I, for one, would welcome you and your family to Texas. It would be a welcome change from the California transplants that are moving in.
