I would not trust that replacement any more then the original that blew out . Just installing or suppling longer screws may help , but I believe they will only prolong the inevitable . Find a good Steel one & you could taper the Gas Blocks Port to throttle it from the larger Port in the Barrel , which may also help the Block seal , like you would counter sink for a flat head screw . It would not take much of a taper or funnel , to make it so the gas impulse is directed into the Gas Blocks Port . An Adj. Gas Block would be needed also , but maybe not with your Rifle Gas system . I'm not a fan of adj. Gas Blocks , I don't use them , but they do have there place & your issue may be one of them .
  2. Think this will help them in the competition . http://www.upi.com/Business_News/Security-Industry/2016/03/03/GenDyn-unit-gets-gun-barrel-contract-for-Army-Smith-Wessons/7411457036999/
  3. 18" is not a bad choice , but a 16" will do as good & lighter . Quicker to bring up or swing , just a little . Both Barrels are good choices for a hunting rifle .
  4. Now you have to write a review , with photo's , for our pleasure .
  5. I worked on a brand new CMMG that did the same thing & it was the Barrel that was loose , from the Factory .
  6. After 500 rounds , they won't be that sharp any more . Can anyone tell me how Barrel Manufacturers dull the Machining of the Barrel Extension after the Machining process ? Since most Barrel Makers do not make their own Extensions or do they ?

What length gas system is the Barrel. Also as said above , talk to the Manufacturer . The issue I see is , if the Gas Port in the Barrel is larger then the Gas Blocks Port , its putting High Pressure Gas impulse under the Gas Block & that may be why the Gas Block blew out or helped it blow out like that .Weak or soft Gas Block Material /short screw, probably didn't help ether . I would recommend an adjustable Gas Block , but the size of your Barrels Gas Port may be an issue . Steel may help & if it gets a chance to seal up , it may be ok , I just would not like that much gas impulse directed under the Gas Block . The Gas Tube ID is only so big ( 0.120" ), so it gets throttled down . Depending on the length of you gas system , it may cause Cycling issues also & you will definitely feel it in recoil . My 16" Rifle length gas system , has a Port size of 0.1095"& is more then enough to operate the Action .

Any idea who made the Barrel ? That's also different then a 308AR should be also.

That's a BIG Gas Port in the Barrel . Are you sure of your measurements ? How did you measure them ?
  10. You can buy Gold cheaper . 1974 COLT PYTHON 357 Magnum 6" Royal Blue I TRADE 10$3,899.00
  11. If them Python's weren't so expensive , I would get another , but there are no 357 Mag's worth that much. Maybe if I was selling it
  12. Barrel Extension is not meant to feed Human Fingers , Metal things go in there .
  13. As had been said , run her wet . Sounds like its short stroking & as said , the BC is stripping the fresh round from the Mag & not the Bolt face. Test as said , with one round in the Mag to see if the BCG goes back far enough in recoil to lock back BCG on last round . The fact that she ran with the first ten rounds may mean not enough lubrication & the BCG is binding or slowing down on recoil . Check your Gas Block to make sure it hasn't loosened up or moved . How far does your Gas Tube protrude into the Upper Receiver ? Photo's ? How many coils in the Buffer Spring ? Whats the length of the Buffer ? Has the Head Space been checked ? Rifle should function reliably with good 147 gr. Ball Ammo . I use M80 ball to test all 308AR's I have built .
  14. The 16" in the photo in my post is also a HB with a 0.936" Gas Block & is also Criterion & has a Rifle length Gas system . Shoots almost as good as the 20" , but with less weight . Sorry Robo , I'll delete all photo's of it , so as not to tease you .
  15. I was going to say something , like , did you wear sox just for the Photo op , but he's new so I cut him some slack . Won't happen again ! lol
  16. Try a different complete Bolt .
  17. Criterion has a 20" HB , takes a 0.936" gas block, I have one
  18. We have had our share of trouble makers & sidewalk Commando's , that's for sure. As said, the 308AR is not as popular as its little brother , so you will see less traffic .
  19. What length Gas system ? If over gased , use a good Adj. Gas Block .& Yes , over gasing can cause extraction/ejection issues .
  20. Factory rifle , send it back under warranty & let them fix the issue . If no warranty , try the Flitz with a Bore mop & batt. operated drill/driver , just don't over do it & if you still have issues , as said above , attend to the Chamber .

I agree , a good area not skimp with sub standard components , as demonstrated . Four threads aren't much of a hold .
  22. Performance , No gas signal to the Carrier Key/BCG , makes it a single shot & manually operated ejection & Feeding ( basically a Bolt Gun ) If you can't shut Gas from coming out of Barrels Gas Port ( Adj. Gas Block , that can completely shut Gas off ) it will blow back toward the Shooter , a FF Hand Guard that covers the Gas Block may help , still might get a little warm under there .

The Aluminum that they are using looks awfully soft to flex like that , but the 308 does have some power & it showed it on the Gas Block . If it was me , I would looking into another Manufactures Gas Block as soon as I could afford it . I have three 308AR's with Clamp on Gas Blocks with out issue . If the threads stripped out in the GB , why would a Manufacturer think putting longer ones in ,would make a difference or they were stripped by over tightening them from the get go at the Factory .
  24. Whats modified in the Mag & what type mag. Steel or Pmag ?

Welcome from the SunShine State . That looks like a Clam Shell type of gas block , two piece ? If its not , its broke in half as was said . A clamp on type will slip over the barrel , with two or more bolts to clamp it on the Barrel . I like Steel Clamp on type ,but have Aluminum ones also that work fine , not sure the length of service compared to the Steel , but I don't remove them much at all to inspect . Once they are sealed by carbon of firing , I don't like to break that seal . I don't believe there will be much erosion if there is any , because the Gas Port hole in the Gas Block is larger then the Barrels Gas Port & most gas goes directly into the Gas Tube , which is Stainless Steel .
