  1. Nice Panhead . My first Harley was a 56 chopper .
  2. Yes they do have a newer model A lower that will accept Pmags . Just not sure they sell the lower separately . Now where's our AR 10 guy's .
  3. Nice comparison on what a brake can do . Wonder if he hand loaded that ammo ? <dontknow>
  4. All my older C-products 308 mags work fine & it was more than one mag ., I think I bought ten from someone <thumbsup>. I can't see your feed ramps being a problem , but how the magazine feeds the round & at what angle . I found through measurements that it doesn't take a Magazine's seating height ( or lack of it ) to make them cause malfunctions , we are only talking about a few thousands of an inch to cause problems . Because that is what I found with the CMMG lower & the PMags . Now in CMMGs defense , there lower Receiver was designed & purchased long before a LR PMag was made , maybe why the steel mags work . Tolerance stacking , I even tried two different DPMS upper receivers on the CMMG lower with the same results .
  5. Instead of using math , how about starting from 100 yards & walk the distance up a hundred at a time to see where your hand loads go on paper & you will know for sure . You will have the dope right & log it .
  6. I believe the CMMG 's are DPMS platform rifles & you should be able to just swap uppers receivers out & depends on the matching rail height of the Hand guard you have. What rail height does it match up to , as shown in the photo I posted . Thats if you care about a little rail difference between the upper & hand guard. This shows the difference in rail heights of the low profile of the new DPMS upper receive rail height & a JP hand guard that is the old height . This rifle had a SI Defense upper on it that has the old rail height & I replaced it with a Tactical Machining 308 upper with the newer DPMS rail height . Confusing isn't the right word . To me , the old & new mean nothing , its cosmetic is all . This is with the SI Defense upper on it . There are a bunch of manufacturers that make both format's out there , CMMG is just one of them.
  7. If you are going to build a 308AR , my advice is use the same manufacturer's Receiver's, both upper & lower . In my experience I have seen , what we call Tolerance stacking & it can cause fitment issues , why take the chance . As far as which platform , its a personal choice , I can say the DPMS platform probably has the most parts compatibility ,with magazines being the big one , but if you get the new Armilite that can use Magpul's ,LR308 PMags , that puts it on par with the DPMS platforms magazine compatibility . There is a difference in Barrel Nut threading between the two & thats not a big deal or game changer .
  8. I'll take 500 , but you should just give it away because its so old , from the mid sixties it looks . <laughs> Really I'll take 500 . <thumbsup>
  9. Try a steel magazine or two , even if you have to barrow one . Yes , I have a CMMG lower that will only work with metal mags , LR PMags will malfunction just as you describe as was mentioned above . Also Make sure your barrel extension feed ramps match up with the M4 feed ramps on the lower receiver , because if they don't & theres any bump or lip , it will produce the same FTF. Of all the ammo that should cycle in these rifles is mil sec ball ammo. Usually , feeding problems are associated with the Magazine in some way.
  10. There is a sticky around here on how to measure your upper to get the right hand guard for it . There are quite a few good ones out there as was said above. There is a super high top one for there target rifles & I don't have the dimensions on that one , but below is the difference from the old higher rail height & there new , lower height.
  11. This scope had to be the easiest I have ever sighted in or was just lucky . I fired four shots at 25 yards , just to make sure it would hit paper @ 100 made minor windage & elevation adj. & @ 100 took only three rounds to put them dead center . Then I fired five rounds on the smaller sight in square on the target & man , they were right on the money . I gave the 24"x24" cardboard backer to a guy at the range that had none & forgot to take the target off , but this scope impressed me on its clarity & I do like the Ballistic mil dot reticle on this scope also . Now to make a home for the Nikon , that was on there <thumbsup>
  12. Of course , but since your new , its the way you ask . If you ask " has anyone tried this ? " you own it ,unless you can come up with another on this forum that has asked the same question before . ( I got away with it once, because I found someone that had asked about it before me & was answered ) It may be a good idea , if looking at a product you are interested in , to look at past posts to see if it was asked before here. <thumbsup> As said , check that disconnector spring & if this rifle was bought new as a complete rifle made by CMMG , contact them & they will take care of this problem.
  13. Yes , it reads on the instructions to use a rubber cement to keep it together or repair ( & from what Shibiwan said , Elmer's glue ), if you made a mistake . They also read that the rifle case type , needs to be cut , not pulled apart .
  14. I just looked at the instructions with my Plano Tactical case & the flat foam insert has been pre-cut with a bunch of squares for you to pop apart to make the out line of your rifle or accessory's . You can make them out in the photo above , they should be on the under side when your done though. I like it , I'm going to get another one .
  15. <laughs> Those Unicorns can revert back & forth just like the video above. I too have one , been with her for 35 years & yes she can load & fire every thing I own . <thumbsup>
  16. Thats a good question . What does a scope do , it magnifies to bring seen objects closer , wonder if heat can be picked up with magnification ? Mirage , you see that magnified . A question for someone with more knowledge than me , but its interesting for sure .
  17. Yes , the math is right , but for what bullet & @ what Velocity. It may get it close , but you will still need to verify by putting lead downrange. Assuming your barrel is going to put out a certain Velocity by factory posted FPS , is asking a lot to happen correctly . Now if you Chronograph your ammo , the math may work close to spec's on the Ballistics program .Then all you have to think about is the wind & bullet drift . <thumbsup>
  18. I would believe it would be the pick up strength of the sensor that would determine how far it would pick up a thermal signature & even the big dollar ones use magnification . This will be an interesting experiment, I believe much better than night vision .
  19. The rings came in today , nice rings , but the instructions were not up to par , I really don't need instructions , but read them any way . Instruction read with four screws for the QR rings & these QR rings had six , so kinda not up to date with there products . Mounting went OK , after leveling scope to upper receiver , I removed the scope a couple of times to see if it would come back to level & it was off every time , not an awful lot but still off & that would effect you at longer ranges to stay zeroed. I think they are more of a QR to remove a damaged scope to go to your BUIS , than to remove & reinstall when change optics . Not a problem I'm not going to use them that way , they are permanent , to me . The Nikon I took off seemed to weigh a bit more than this Burris , could be the Burris Ultra Tactical rings on there , because they are big & heavy . Before after Comparison
  20. I will pick one up , when they become available , just because I do HVAC/R work on the side some times. ( now that I'm retired & being forced to by friends & family ,the bastiges ). Looks like it works , just how good it will work on a scope , well it may not work at all . The price will probably vary , depending where its available.
  21. Whats your rifle set up ? There will be many more questions from around here .
  22. Suposed to be available in August for $349. Wonder how that would work with one of those attachments for viewing through your scope ? http://www.flir.com/flirone/
  23. AS long as it is not an Explosive .
