  1. Seems we had a reliable 45acp before . Of course the 1911 didn't carrie a box of ammo , but it worked & worked well . Strange how this always comes back around .
  2. <lmao>
  3. No , it seems we have to defend our selfs , because the Armilte guys are always looking down at us poor DPMS owners . <lmao>
  4. Did you build your " Superior "Armilite's ? I couldn't help myself & I'm not sorry about it ! <laughs>
  5. If you really want to make sure your gas block is aligned properly on the barrel , it will take a good measuring tool ( Dial or Digital caliper ) a short piece of rod , one will have to be short enough to fit into the inside of the gas block . The barrel measurement will be easy , take a drill bit that is as close to the barrels gas port inside diameter & measure the distance from the drill bit or rod to the seating shoulder on the barrel & write it down , next take the short rod & insert it in the gas hole inside the gas block & measure the distance from it to the face of the gas block that seats against the barrel flange on the barrel . With those two measurements you will see where the gas block needs to be set for getting full coverage of the opening in the gas port of the barrel . Most gas blocks have a larger port hole then the barrels port hole , so there is some fudge room. When using a larger dia. pin for the gas block port hole , you can subtract the difference in dia. by half or leave it alone as long as you know that port hole is over the barrel port hole I use the depth gage part of the caliper to measure the inside port of the gas block. As far as lining up the ports ,using a marker as you did with the pencil to make sure they are aligned with each other & gas tube is straight into the upper receiver. The eye ball method of aligning the mark on the gas block & barrel seems to me to work the best . Taking the measurements like this will tell you if the gas block can be seated up against the barrels shoulder or it needs to be backed off a bit , because some barrels & gas blocks are made for the use of the mounting ring or end plate for an A2 hand guard.I measure to make sure & not take it for granted. Its sounds more difficult than it is & I have photo's of measuring ,some where, if I can find them. I don't have a barrel & gas block off a rifle to show , right now . Was this barrel /bolt head spaced ?
  6. Lets put this mildly , you will never be totally prepared for bugging out , but just having a loaded Bug out bag will make you one hundred times more prepared to some one who doesn't . Most people will have nothing ,but whats in there pantry to survive on & bugging out is the last resort IMO . I'm kinda lucky , I have several in my community that are in the same mind set as I & if something happens ,we will work it out . I will hunker down , as most will until its absolutely time to go . I have game in my back yard & a green house & capture my own drinking water & plenty of woods & swamp around me .
  7. Measure the inside diameter of the stocks receiver extension opening.
  8. The thing is , you ordered a different rifle then came in. (That's not the rifle I ordered , send it back ! ) That is of course you have paper to back you up or your FFL knew that's not what you ordered & said so . Another way of looking at it is ,You would probably change that stuff down the line , any way . <dontknow>
  9. Everything , but the kitchen sink ! I think beyond the normal stuff ( first aid kit or more , food/water , ammo ), it would be up to the individual . Some may make more room for ammo ( me ) & some may use more room for food & water . Its up to the individual .
  10. Couldn't be , no Geissele triggers in there . <laughs>
  11. Sounds like a good blaster barrel though , as long as it was with in spec's . You never know , may turn out better than one would think , but that's it , you never know ,at least until you try it .
  12. Maybe a Technical section with just what you are asking, would work . With references to past threads on the subject , I know I spend some time looking for my & others old posts , just to remember what was said & how it was resolved or completed & that includes reloading. One aspect which we should discuss about this is , these things we are building are not motorcycles or a swing set , Firearms can & do blow up on people , not sure if I would want a called " Technical instruction " on it any where . Wonder what if any liability it would have with some ones name on it ? The way it is now its just advice on the internet , just thinking out loud .
  13. If you want to high light your build , start a thread on it . I & others here have photo tutorials of our projects . If you have a question about this or that , we just love to help people out & trying to stop this crowd from commenting, is like stoping a fly from landing on a turd <lmao>
  14. Wideners , they have a shorter one also, I think the smaller one is 36"long . https://www.wideners.com/index.cfm
  15. I'm more in the mind set of a more medium bag & leave the kitchen sink at home . Us older people really can't & don't want to carrie a bag that weighs almost as much as us . <laughs>
  16. Yes,Try to keep all lubricants out of the chamber . I always put a very small dab of grease on the back of the bolt lugs . The term of running them wet doesn't mean pouring oil into the action , but does mean you use more lubricant than you normally would .
  17. Did you order the rifle & it came like that , different than what you ordered ? If its just the stock you don't like , its easy enough to change it to what ever you want .
  18. Interesting .
  19. Good price .
  20. If the BCG is too far of Battery , the FA will not catch on that lip on the DPMS BC, there is a narrow window to catch that lip on the BC. You would just be pushing the FA against & sliding off of the surface . Not sure of anything on the new G2 , I know very little about that new model . & this is all if its a DPMS type 308AR , you'all with AR 10's , speak up , how does your FA work .
  21. What Manufacturer's rifle ? DPMS , unless they have changed something , you only have a small window where the FA engages the the BC Here the FA is engaging the BC, top left of the ejection port ( Bolt locked into barrel extension ) No FA This is where the DPMS FA contacts the BC Comparison of M16 BC & DPMS 308 BC , notice how low the FA groves are in the BC , even if your DPMS 308 has these groves ( this low ) your FA is too high to engage them . By looking at the photos on where the DPMS FA is engaging , you can't put these groves up as high. I personally have charged a pump shotgun in my tree stand with a Deer @ thirty yards & it made the Deer flinch , but it didn't run away & I could have shot it if it it wasn't a buck & my buck tag was already filled .
  22. Whats not in there ? I see Tools , Building , Triggers , Parts , I don't get it . <dontknow> Whats missing ?
  23. Stop showing off your rifle ! <lmao>
  24. New rifles , run them a little wet with oil for a while , then you can go back to normal oiling . What magazines are you using , the DPMS that came with the rifle , if so try a Magpul LR 308 PMag or another brand , although the top of the line will be the PMag. There are very good steel mags out there also , one is the original CProducts are very good , no sure of the newer ones after the Co. was sold .
